SATELLITE ATELIER 1111 Lincoln Road Addition Miami Beach, Florida User: Issey Miyake (Fashion Designer) 1,200 sqft Satellite Atelier is a project that analyzes and interprets Issey Miyake’s innovative approach to fashion design and uses an architectural approach to develop an architectural skin that defines spaces while evoking a sense of deep uncertainty and curiosity to the elements behind it. The skin creates enclosure variants to serve as the atelier and store for the fashion designer. The connecting lines of different structural members of a site define spaces and the use of different layers of parallel linear elements from the defining lines create a moire effect. Wider elements with larger spaces in between them generate an opportunity for ventilation to occur. At the same time, the shape of the skin contrasts the 1111’s skinless concrete garage.

WYNWOOD 24
MANA Wynwood Studio In collaboration with Grecia Estrada NW 6TH AVE & NW 23RD ST Miami, Florida 467,411 sqft
WYNWOOD 24 is part of a collaborative effort between MANA Wynwood and FIU students to develop a masterplan for the neighborhood. The project encourages users to inhabit the site 24 hours of the day. The program includes an art school, studios, and co-working areas that will run throughout the day; promoting art in the Latino-Asian community. The ribbon on the building’s façade emphasizes to the studios along the tower while connecting the project from the ground to the top of the tower, focusing in the activities that happen within the ribbon during the 24 hours of the day.
The building’s transparency invites the public to continue the art from the streets into the educational facility. This project provokes movement and activities at ground level with the use of an artistic plaza, which is programmatically and visually connected to the podium with the use of specific graphics that becomes exhibition as well as event space. The building seeks to highlight the importance of art in the city of Wynwood with spaces that are specifically designed for artists to expose their work.

GARE CENTRE
Study Abroad: Paris-Milan Boulevard de la Chapelle (North of Gare Du Nord train station) Paris, France 127,595 sqft This center for social change fosters interaction within individuals and groups at different levels visually, physically, and conceptually. The spaces foster relationships at a large scale such as in the ground level gallery, terrace and at a smaller scale in spaces such as the reading room on the second level.
As the continuous flow of the circulation moves up through a set of stairs through the auditorium, there are opportunities for visual and physical interactions with the gallery below. At the same time, the reading room’s ceiling punctures through the co-working spaces to create a similar relationship. These co-working spaces are located
on the upper level, providing them with extended views towards the south, to the train station of Gare du Nord, and the North. The project is divided into three zones: residential, institutional, and terrace. The residential spaces will shelter immigrant families facing adverse situations, which would target one of the largest issues that Paris is experiencing.

DDAC - DESIGN DISTRICT ARTS CENTER Comprehensive Design + Integrated Building Systems 135 NE 41 ST, 115 NE 41 ST Miami, Florida 60,440 sqft The DDAC is located in the Design District, a high-end creative neighborhood that has become a key shopping destination for tourists. The project is composed of retail spaces, galleries, an auditorium, offices and temporary dorms for artists and writers while being open to the public at all floors through its exterior circulation. The structure is composed of large structural elements that transfer the loads to the exterior of the building, towards the primary frontage on 41 St and the courtyard in the rear. This provides flexibility in the interior structures and circulation of the buidling while inviting the public from the sidewalk into the open ground floor level.
