Program The museum needs to develop further and take its voluntary movement to the next stage. By a large extension of exhibition spaces, cafés, workshops, library and so on, the museum will increase much in size. Together with the key stakeholder, I have put forward a proposal for this extension. Inspiration is brought from the paintings and artefacts, interviews and reference projects that have a particular vein into this subject.
Artist’s Spaces Guest artists and scholars will be able to live in the main farm building, whilst they work and create in ateliers in the museum. When finished, they can exhibit their work and put together parties. Library A small library will contain both physical and digital material over the colony, local history and art in general on connected to the Åland Islands. Study rooms and computers will be located in the library where you can work or do research. The library will be unmanned. Loans and booking of rooms will be done in the reception.

Exhibition Spaces Foremost, the spaces are for the permanent collection of the Museum. This collection will extend. It consists mostly of paintings, but also sculptures and other items. In addition to this, space for temporary exhibitions is needed. Entrance Area The entrance area will most likely be relocated and enlarged. In direct connection there will be a wardrobe, lockers and common toilets that serves as the only public toilets. Reception & Shop In order to reduce the need for employees, the reception will also work as museumand bookshop. Therefore, it has to be located with a good overview over the entrance and other facilities that connects to the entrance room. The receptionist must be able to welcome visitors by eyecontact. Assembly rooms & Workshops Close to the entrance, rooms for lectures, presentations and workshops are located. They should also be able to work as children’s’ educational spaces and film theatre or extended exhibition space. In order to allow parallel activities, they should be able to close off from the exhibitions.
