SPOTLIGHT ST IVES BEAUTY

Mona Mahajan, St Ives Medical and Cosmetic Centre

When did you start St Ives Medical & Cosmetic Centre?

Dr. Suhas Mahajan started St Ives Medical & Cosmetic Centre 20 years ago, and the centre also includes Glow AntiAging Clinic, a medical cosmetic clinic specialising in high-quality, non-surgical anti-aging treatments. We’re different from other spas and clinics because we provide better treatments without overdoing it. Dr. Mahajan is a GP with an interest in anti-aging and skin cancer (we also do skin cancer checks and procedures), and Ceridwen, who does our medical cosmetic treatments, has more than 15 years’ experience – she’s an expert at facial contouring using injectibles.

Why is spring a particularly important time for skincare?

During winter, your skin is less exposed to the sun, so it is lighter or less tanned, making spring the best time to have IPL (intense pulsed light) treatment to reduce age spots and pigmentation.

To rejuvenate your skin from the effects of harsh winter weather, vitamin C is very effective, and our vitamin C infusion starts with microdermabrasion to help clear the pores. Next, we infuse the skin with vitamins using an ultrasonic device, which works deeper into your skin to nourish it better. Are there any products or treatments that you especially recommend?

Our Glow Fading Cream helps brighten the skin and lighten spots over time, while the 90-minute TriBella is the ultimate non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatment, simultaneously enhancing the tone, tightness, and texture of your skin for a more youthful look. It starts with an IPL photofacial, followed by diamond polar skin tightening and finally, radio frequency skin resurfacing. It is one of the best anti-aging treatments in the industry, with minimal downtime. We recommend three treatments, with a top-up every six months to really transform your skin.

Lucia Haiping, St Ives Professional Skin Care

When did you start St Ives Professional Skin Care?

I came here in 2002, so it’s been 22 years. I started under the previous owner, then took over the business in 2006 and changed the name. All of the services have stayed the same, along with the same brands, skincare, and customers.

What kind of services become more popular as we head into spring?

In winter, it’s good to have more facials as the skin is dry and needs more renewal. Going into spring, we definitely do more hair removal, laser, waxing, and lash treatments. Any new services we should know about?

We have a very good new microneedling machine – our new baby – which offers a stronger, quicker result for skin rejuvenation and helps reduce pigmentation. The appointment length depends on how large the area is that you are having treated: the whole face takes about an hour, and face with décolleté, 90 minutes. If you only want to treat a double chin, that’s just 20 minutes. We can also do hands, arms, and stretch marks on the tummy. The treatment has very limited downtime – just one to three hours, max.

Most customers can go back to work straight away – which is amazing. What are your best selling products?

We carry three brands: Clarins, Sothys, and Ultraceuticals. Clarins is good for everybody; it’s a wellknown brand and we suggest it to people who want just normal maintenance. Sothys is used in most of our in-room treatments as it’s a professional range, while Ultraceuticals is generally a higher concentrate product – it sits between cosmetics and cosmeceuticals so you really need to know how to use it properly.

P8 GREAT READS

Independent bookseller BOOK FACE, owned by Paul Berkelouw, opens at St Ives Shopping Village

aul Berkelouw is well known for his eponymous bookshops across Sydney... but did you know he is also the owner of BOOK FACE? Village Life spoke to Luke Holmes, Store Manager, about the new store – and what to read this season.

Village Life: What are you most excited about when it comes to your new store at St Ives?

Book Face: This is our sixth BOOK FACE, and it’s a perfect location with a long and proud history of being an independent bookshop for the local area. It’s been great to see the enthusiasm and love from everyone in our first months and to have this unique opportunity to keep the space open as an indie bookshop for the area.

VL: What sets BOOK FACE apart from other bookstores?

BF: We’re the best of both worlds in terms of being a communityfocused bookstore with excellent range and service, but also offering a lot of non-book items as well. Our high-quality gift and stationery section means you can pick up books and whatever else you need, all in one place.

VL: You’ve already hosted a great range of events. What else can we expect coming up?

BF: Keep an eye out for our monthly book club and weekly children’s storytime, as well as more author events.
