District 3 will have two seats available with one seat for a three-year term and one seat for a one-year term due to a recently vacated position. The board is responsible for setting policy for the only electric distribution cooperative in Southern California and is committed to policies that result in a safe and reliable electric system, fair rates, financial responsibility and superior member service. Each year, eligible cooperative members can seek nomination for director positions up for election through the petition process established by their bylaws requiring 30 valid member signatures. This year, 10 valid petitions were accepted and will be listed on the July ballot for the four seats. For District 1, Joel Carlisle, Merl Johnson and Ryall Stewart petitioned. For District 2, Milt Jordan, Michael Machado and Annika Knoppel will be listed on the ballot. For District 3, Belinda Hepler and Stephan Lauzier are running for the three-year term position and Robert Hepler and Stephen Silkotch are running for the one-year term seat. Members of the board of directors are charged with many responsibilities. The board regularly evaluates
whether decisions and policies help the cooperative further its commitment to serving the community successfully by providing excellent member services and safe and reliable energy services at a competitive price. The cooperative’s board of directors also approves and amends the business rules and rates which govern the cooperative’s dealings with members. Board members adopt and enforce policies, resolutions and actions governing ethical conduct, accountability and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The board of directors establishes financial targets and goals and approves the Cooperative’s budget. Board members also review and approve significant investments, loans and acquisitions, and the rates and terms for providing electric service to cooperative members. The board is responsible for evaluating periodic financial statements, reports and information and considering internal control procedures. The board discharges its duty to manage the affairs of the cooperative by delegating day-to-day management responsibilities to the general manager. The general manager is hired by and answers to the board. Board members consider and approve business initiatives. Annual meeting information, election material and the annual report will be part of the July Currents magazine, arriving in mail boxes the first week of July. An independent election processor will handle the election and announce the election results at the annual membership meeting Saturday, July 22, at Hamilton High School. Mountain Hay and Feed Mountain Market offers something for everyone Diane Sieker ANZAEDITOR@REEDERMEDIA.COM
Mountain Feed & Hay in Mountain Center organized and hosted an open air market Saturday, May 27, and Saturday, June 3, giving local artisans a place to show and sell their wares. The event attracted some of the area’s finest artisans, as well as vendors of gourmet foods, jewelry makers, people offering vintage/ collectible items and a woman and her daughter selling fuzzy chicks and young chickens. Buying, selling and browsing went from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. “I had a great time and sold lots of little chicks. It was fun seeing how the kids fell in love with them,” said seller Raychel Olvera. “I bought a lot of stuff, too!” The cool, breezy spots under the towering pine trees made for a pleasant day for both buyers and sellers. Many of the vendors were old acquaintances and there was

A Pawsability 4 Veterans opens service dog training center

It is often said, “Dogs are man’s best friend.” This is particularly found true for many returning wounded American military veterans who have experienced terrifying physical and mental trauma in combat or in service to the nation. Sandy Dee, a U.S. Army, medically retired, veteran, from Hemet is one of those who have seen what Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder does to this group of people and how canine companions can often help. Her response is forming the nonprofit group named “A Pawsability 4 Veterans.” Dee, along with her service dog, London, and two trainers – through A Pawsability 4 Veterans and its new training facility located at
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1891 in San Jacinto – is offering military veterans service dog training at the post. London, a Magyar Vizula, adopted by Dee after the deaths of her mother and father in San Diego, continues to be in training at the A Pawsability 4 Veterans training facility at 1891 S. Santa Fe Ave., San Jacinto. Dee said she adopted London to become a service dog for her mother, but her mother died before he was trained. She learned that it was not easy to train London to become a service dog, but once he began to learn, she saw the “pawsability” that she and London might be able to help other wounded and disabled veterans with a nonprofit organization. Knowing it would be difficult to form such a nonprofit, “I ask God what should I do,” she said.
Her answer came after collaborating and sharing her idea with the nonprofit group called 4Paws 4Patriots in Temecula, Canine Support Teams and contacts she had at the San Jacinto VFW. She and her two trainers formed Pawsability 4 Veterans as a nonprofit organization to help with service dog training. Offering A Pawsability 4 Veterans a home was VFW Post 1891 Commander Donovan Walker. The post and its members hosted the traveling American Veterans Traveling Tribute Wall and newer Global Wall of Terror Wall of Remembrance in San Jacinto on Memorial Day weekend. The caretaker of the traveling wall, Marine Corps veteran Derek Hendershot, has received his service dog, Witness, through the VFW and A Pawsability 4 Veterans. Dee said donations would soon be coming in and Home Depot stepped up with a grant that helped create the training facility that offers service dog training. The facility has a series of structures that will help the service dogs in training do the work needed to assist their veteran or disabled master, including an artificial grass area for regular training. Dee said any kind of dog may receive the training, although some breeds are more viable for special service duties depending on the client’s disability. Dee said she hoped that A Pawsability 4 Veterans will soon become a national program. The local A Pawsability 4 Veterans already has conducted hikes for veterans, painting classes that help with stress and even golf lessons
offered through the Golden Era Golf Course. Donations and fees for the programs are used for the operation of the nonprofit. “One day I want A Pawsability 4 Veterans to be as big as Komen (Race for the Cure),” she said with a smile. Meanwhile, Dee said she is offering the training facility to the canine units of the local California
Highway Patrol, fire and police departments, disaster and emergency medical services under the auspices of Pawsability 4Veterans. For more information about A Pawsability 4 Veterans see www. apawsability4veterans.org or call Dee at (562) 719-6826. Donations may be sent to A Pawsability 4 Veterans at 530 West Devonshire Ave. Space 51, in Hemet, CA 92543.
Anza/Aguanga free tire collection event set June 17 Tony Ault TAULT@REEDERMEDIA.COM
Have some old tires laying around? Tired of seeing discarded old tires laying on the side of the road? Riverside County Department of Waste Resources is offering Anza and Aguanga residents an opportunity to keep their wallets closed and bring those old cast-off rubber tire eyesores to the Anza Transfer Station Saturday, June 17, from 8 a.m. to noon for a free tire collection event. The free tire collection event is open only to Anza and Aguanga residents who bring the old tires to the transfer station at 40329 Terwilliger Road in Anza. There are size restrictions and restrictions on the number and size of tires that will be accepted. According to California State Law resident can only transport up 9 tires per trip. Residents transporting any additional tires, above 9, must obtain a waiver by the RCDWR a week before the collection date. Also, RCDWR says those tires transported must be less than 4 feet in diameter and cannot have rims. Tires will not be accepted from businesses or nonprofit organizations. To receive a waiver to transport more than 9 tires at time residents should contact the Riverside County Department of Waste Resources at (951) 486-3200 one week before the June 17 collection date. The free tire collection event in the Valley was the result of area resident requests to the Riverside County Board of Supervisors in past years. Although it is against the law to discard old tires on state highways or on public lands, area residents found the illegal dumping was taking place on the areas rural roads or on
their properties much to their dismay. Worn-out, cast off rubber tires have been proven environmentally hazardous to the land, wildlife and their
habitat as well as humans. Normally there is a fee for disposing of old tires at tire dealers, transfer stations and public landfills.

Please don’t call me conservative or liberal Harold Pease, Ph. D. SPECIAL TO VALLEY NEWS
Please understand! I am deeply offended when called either conservative or liberal. These are traps for the ignorant who wish to reduce my years of serious contemplation to a word so that a part of my readers can praise me, “Well done! “ “You are one of us!” And the other part can dismiss me by a single word, even hate me. This is war, every bit as much as it was for the Founding Fathers, and I will not be dismissed. There are Loyalist or Tories in our day just as there were in theirs, and I stand to call them out, whether Democrats or Republicans. My views are the Founders’ collective view. I draw from the same fountain of natural law as they did and appeal to the same “father of lights to illuminate my understanding” as Ben Franklin said at the Constitutional Convention. for many years, and students sit in front of me just waiting to tag me with some label that did not exist in the same way back then and dismiss me or marginalize me so that they do not have to think. As long as they are not successful, they are teachable and have to deal with the inconsistencies of both ideologies – liberal and conservative. I have friends in both camps, and sooner or later, they say to me somewhat surprised, “I thought you were one of us.” I, like George Washington, dislike political parties. Today both major parties undermine the Constitution, and collective ignorance, reinforced by numbers, is more dangerous than individual ignorance. Neither side uses the Constitution as first consideration in governing. I publicly challenged the Republican Party for leading us into the Iraq wars against Saddam Hussein because the evidence for doing so – 9/11, weapons of mass destruction, preemption which is the concept that they would do something to us eventually – did not exist and had to be constantly changed to justify our presence. I did not oppose the war in Afghanistan because the evidence was there for 9/11, but I do now because we have no clear definable win objectives and lack
the will to unleash everything we have to win. It is another Vietnam quagmire. It was the George W. Bush administration that gave us the Patriot Act, which allowed the government to define terrorists as her own people and severely damaged the Bill of Rights. Republicans looked the other way as the National Security Agency gave itself authority to gather and store in Bluffdale, Utah, every electronic message of her own people. While the government looks within for the enemy, it fails to secure our borders from Middle Eastern intruders from countries with a known intent to harm us, until now. With respect to national health care, something they unanimously opposed and which has no constitutional basis, they now look more like Democrats who at least were not hypocritical in their desire to take over a third of the economy. “Obamacare-light” is still “Obamacare.” Democrats have taken spending to an unacceptable level and seem intent to risk collapsing the entire economy in doing so. With each crisis they help create, their remedy is always more government as they hamstring businesses that create our jobs with numberless rules and regulations. Their model is not the Founders
or the Constitution but socialist countries in Europe, some of whom tax their people over 50 percent of their income and offer far less freedom. A worshipful press has never properly explained Obama’s past connection with revolutionary Bill Ayer, founder of the militant Whether Underground, which bombed government buildings in the seventies. While China, Cuba and even Canada are showing clear signs of backing off socialism, we seemed “hell bent” to rush into it under either Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders. Moreover, instead of investigating the Clinton Foundation or the Clinton classified emails scandals that jeopardized national security of which there exists extensive documentation, far more than on Nixon’s Watergate, they push Russian influence in the Donald Trump election for which real documentation is nonexistent. Amazing! So what do I embrace? I usually drop a tear or two when the national anthem is played. I am touched by George Washington who loved his country enough to risk his life in a doubtful cause failing to win a single battle the first year against England, the most powerful nation on earth, and who refused pay from the government for his services as a general or as president. I
Anza Local Four arrested following burglary investigation which yields illegal marijuana grow Diane Sieker ANZAEDITOR@REEDERMEDIA.COM
At approximately 7:15 a.m. June 1, Riverside County Sheriff ’s deputies and investigators from the Hemet station served a theft-related search warrant in the 58000 block of La Colina Lane in the Terwilliger area of Anza. During the service of the search warrant, dispatch received a call of a burglary in progress at an address on the 60000 block of Tamatea Road in Anza. Half of the search warrant team responded and upon

arrival, detained two juveniles who had forced their way inside a residence. At about 8 a.m., a resident telephoned dispatch and provided the location of the primary suspect wanted in the initial theft-related search warrant. Investigators responded to an address on the 45000 block of Spirit Trail in Anza and located the primary suspect, 18-year-old Tyler Douglas. After a short foot pursuit, Douglas was apprehended, investigators reported. During the pursuit and arrest, investigators located an illegal
marijuana grow on the property. A search warrant was immediately obtained. Numerous items from previously reported thefts were located on the property and 1600 marijuana plants were seized, the report said. Tyler Douglas was arrested for an outstanding felony theft warrant. He was also arrested for an alleged previous burglary in Anza. He was booked into the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta and charged with three counts of felony receiving of known stolen property, with bail set at $30,000. He was
scheduled to make his first court appearance June 5, at the Murrieta Southwest Justice Center. Janice Kelly, 54, was arrested for illegal cultivation of marijuana. Both of the juveniles were arrested and burglary charges will be filed, deputies said. Their identities will not be revealed publicly due to their underage status. This investigation is ongoing. past six years. The ranch offers the “One Good Day Project” to those in need. The day includes spending time with the horses, all very attentive and gentle with people, feeding them carrots, grooming them and for those who are able, riding portions of the nearby Pacific Crest Trail. “Our clients experience an emotional bond with the horses,” explains Roberts. “Our horses are all calm and well trained. Once our guests feed a horse a carrot, brush their coasts or clean to clear their hoofs, they relax; they focus on the horse and the relationship that quickly develops.”
The Roberts said the Memorial Day get together was more to thank those who have helped the nonprofit ranch and its mission through the years. The Ranch does have annual fundraisers and is the sponsor of the annual “Concert for Heroes” usually held on Veteran’s Day in November for American War Veterans.
