‘Anza Days’ set for good old-fashioned family fun Diane Sieker anzaeditor@reedermedia.com

The excitement is building as the Anza Days approaches. For about 85 years now, this action-packed first weekend in July has been a festive part of the community and its history. Since the Anza Lions Club took over the organization of the events in 1976, the celebration has developed into a series of traditions that people look forward to and plan for all year. Selected by popular vote online, this year’s theme is “Hillbillies,” a subject which promises countrybumpkin humor and a lot of laughs. The creativity of Anza’s residents will be something fun to see. Miss Anza will be chosen in the weeks preceding the weekend. In the past, she has been selected by winning an essay contest, selling the most raffle tickets and any other

‘Anza Summer Nights’ turns up the heat with music, food and more Anza Valley Outlook

Diane Sieker photo anzaeditor@reedermedia.com

Russell Kitchen of The Soil Kitchen hosted Anza Summer Nights at Minor Park in Anza, Saturday, June 3. The community celebration, which ran from 5-10 p.m., featured two live bands, food, a caricature artist and an incredible “gaming trailer.” The amenities of Minor Park, including the horse shoe pits, playground and shady picnic tables were enjoyed by many. The free event entertained young and old alike. The band Vintage Jukebox was first up. This classic rock inspired band consists of veteran musicians: John Parker on drums; Jim Moroco hitting the bass, Rick Brengal and August Gilliland on guitar and vocals. Cool favorites like “Whipping Post” by the Allman Brothers Band reverberated throughout the park, much to the delight of dancers and fans. The band, Vintage Jukebox, perform classic and Southern rock and blues hits during Anza Summer Nights June 3 at Minor Park. Diane Sieker photo

Diane Sieker anzaeditor@reedermedia.com

Rumor has it that there are a couple of Anza women that can whip up some of the finest food anywhere. Meet Missy CarverBoulton and Joni Carver, entrepreneurs on a mission to provide great food, friendly service and generous portions to the hungry masses. Located in the kitchen inside the Cahuilla Mountain Market on Hwy. 371, the Cahuilla Mountain Market BBQ and Cafe does brisk business seven days a week. Menu items include fish-n-chips, fried mushrooms, an Asian chicken salad, meatball subs, onion rings, barbecue, burgers galore and more. A typical sandwich is accompanied by two sides – macaroni and cheese, potato salad or coleslaw. The portions are more than abundant, they are colossal. “I wanted to try something new for our community,” said CarverBoulton, “a gathering place, and food always brings people together.” The location is perfect for her vision. The Cahuilla Mountain Market features a shady lawn, equipped with tables and chairs. Eating is welcome inside the store, but most people elect to dine in the soft breezes under the trees. So, what is the inspiration for the menu choices? “The country feel of good food, good ole home cooking, meals like the kind mama use to make,” said Carver.

The food is well-planned, fresh and made with quality ingredients, with no shortcuts. Most of all, the presentation is nothing short of professional for every single item on the extensive menu. Take for instance the immense Ortega Burger with Swiss cheese. It begins with a fresh, soft bun and a perfectly grilled half-pound Angus patty. This is topped with crisp lettuce, pickles, a tomato slice, red onions and the condiments of your choice. Then there is the huge, thick slice of Ortega chili included for a tasty and satisfying sandwich. This burger is paired with a helping of macaroni and cheese, with lots of cheddar flavor and a hint of black pepper, and a large dollop of creamy potato salad. Crunchy coleslaw is also available as a side. The Cafe is a family endeavor. Besides Carver-Boulton and Carver, their sons Jaime and Jesse man the grill and Carver-Boulton’s daughter Monica joins the ladies in the kitchen. And of course, Market

owner Jorge Rodriguez and employee Thomas Leon Sr. supply all the help and encouragement they can muster. Carver-Boulton and Carver have both had about 20 years in the customer service field and learned the ropes from the ground up. They know all aspects of the restaurant business, including preparing food, washing the dishes, marketing, pricing, buying supplies, arranging the menu, keeping the books and so much more of what it takes to ensure a pleasant experience for their patrons. Their careful attention to detail has proven to be the cause of their success. The unprecedented use of social media for advertising is working wonders, as happy customers post pictures of their meals and feedback is instant – feedback that has been nothing but positive. And on a side note, CarverBoulton reveals, “honestly, to be funny, we were going to name the eatery ‘Two Broke Girls BBQ and Café’ but as it stands we’ve kept it

The seventh annual Anza Film Fest will be sponsored by Sandi Hughes and Annika Knoppel. Family-friendly short films are planned and the shows will start at sundown on the patio of the Anza Valley Business Center across Hwy. 371 from Minor Park. as the Cahuilla Mountain Market BBQ and Cafe.” All this good food and an excellent sense of humor, too. Highly recommended is an understatement.

The Cafe is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information, call (951) 7634227. Take out is also available.

at 5 p.m., the Community Hall will be serving up Danny Stone’s famous tri-tip barbecue sandwiches and plates. Always the subject of rave reviews, Stone’s barbecue is one of the culinary highlights of the weekend. People can stay and eat in the Hall or take to-go plates and attend other events like the Anza Film Fest that same night. On Saturday, July 1, beginning at about 8:30 a.m., the Thimble Club will be serving their traditional pancake breakfast at the Community Hall. This full-fledged and satisfying meal is not to be missed. The Thimble Club ladies know how to put on a wonderful event and all proceeds collected are dispersed to local charities in need. Floats, equestrian groups, vintage cars and more will line up a long Bahrman Road, starting at 8 a.m. and the judging of the parade entries will begin at 9 a.m. For interested parties, it is not too late to submit parade entry forms. They are available online at www.anzalionsclub.com. Parking is encouraged off the highway in the open fields and in parking lots, to keep the side of the road open for spectators. Sunscreen and water are advised. The parade will travel between Bahrman Road and the Anza Community Hall, along Hwy. 371 through the heart of Anza. The announcer’s booth will be located by Minor Park. Some families stake out their parade-viewing spots the night before. Good-natured competition occurs as people jockey for the best positions and the party is on. Hwy. 371 will be closed at 10:30 a.m. then open as soon as the parade ends. California Highway Patrol and the Anza Valley Citizens Patrol will assist with traffic control. The parade kicks off at 11 a.m. and lasts about an hour. Besides the fun floats and groups, the children will delight in getting

hosed by the fire trucks and scrambling after hard candies thrown by the parade participants all along the route. Mary Perkins, Anza resident since 1989, reminisced about Anza Days passed. “Some years ago, I invited a few ‘city’ friends up to watch the parade with me,” she said. “They loved it and said it reminded them of Mayberry, making reference to the Andy Griffith Show. I especially like the horses, old cars, candy toss and all the waving that goes on. I miss the Marine Corps band that used to lead the parade and wish someone would arrange for them to participate again. This is one of the events that makes Anza so special and helps it retain the small-town atmosphere that we love.” Immediately following the parade, the festivities start at Minor Park. There will be various vendors offering great food, games, live music, shopping and more, organized by the Anza Civic Improvement League. A horseshoe tournament is also planned. In partnership with the F.U.N. Group, the Community Hall will be serving chicken & rib plates and operating a beer garden. The Bobcat Country Boosters will be offering fan items and apparel. More vendors and activities are yet to be announced. “I look forward to seeing the whole community come out and be together,” said Brianne Hopkins. “Catching up with friends that I may not see otherwise. I feel like it’s an event that brings the best out of all of Anza’s residents.” For more info on the seventh Annual Anza Film Fest please email news@sandihughes.us. Julian Blues Festival highlights Ben Robinson, former Aguanga resident and nationally-known blues artist Kim Harris anzaeditor@reedermedia.com

When Ben Robinson was a little boy attending school in Temecula, he never could have imagined that he would grow up to become a famous blues’ guitarist. “I was eight when my dad bought me my first guitar,” Robinson said. “I knew I wanted to be a guitar player because guitar players get all of the chicks.” Fast forward just over two decades and now the Aguanga native will say he is blessed with his successes. Now living in North Carolina and performing as the lead guitarist for the band, Preacher Stone, Robinson is returning to Southern California to perform at the 19th annual Julian Blues Festival Saturday, June 17. Hailed as one of “San Diego’s hidden concert gems, the one-day event, held at the 100-year-old Menghini Winery, showcases some of the best and upcoming blues artist from around the country and Southern California. Returning to the stage at the festival after a 10-year absence is Robinson, who blew guests away with his performance at the last time he performed there. “This will be the third time I played it. The first time, I was 17,” Robinson said. “This will mark the 10-year anniversary of the return of the ‘hometown’ kid.” Since then, Robinson hasn’t rested on his laurels, he has toured the world and performed in nearly every state in the union with Preacher

Stone, all the while turning heads and making a name for himself. “Since the last time I did the Julian Blues Bash, I’ve made or played on about six albums and did a world tour,” he said. “I have been to every state but Alaska and Montana.” Robinson said that while it sounds a bit cliché, he has been “very blessed and very fortunate.” “There is not a day that goes by that I take any of it for granted,” he said. “It sure beats digging holes for a living.”

Robinson said he is looking forward to the festival but catching up with friends and family will be a big highlight of the trip for him. “It’s gonna be cool to be back up on that stage again in front of some people that saw me 10 years ago, but personally for me the most exciting part about it is getting to catch up with friends and getting to see my Ma and hang out with my brothers and pal around with some of my old homies from the neighborhood,” he said. “Just to come back and visit and smack a

awe... one of the very best up and coming young Blues guitarists out there nationwide.” Also performing is The Dennis Jones Band, returning to the stage after a few years of hitting the road, San Diego’s own Earl Thomas, who has been touring the U.S. and Europe, The McCoy Brothers Band, Benji and the Honeycats and The Chris Fast Band. Gates will open at 10 a.m. with music kicking off at 10:05. The day, which includes wine tastings, affordable adult beverages, barbecue and other delicious food choices, along with craft vendors, will end with an Allstar Jam Session at 7 p.m. Music fans are invited to bring lawn/beach chairs, a blanket, even an umbrella or a pop-up (those with shade units will be asked to be further back as not to block the sight-line to the stage). No outside food or drink is allowed and sorry no pets are allowed Parking is free and in and out privileges are available once a wristband has been purchased. Tickets are $35 at the gate, Military w/ I.D and spouse will be $20 each, children 12 and under free and those ages 13 to 18 are only $5. The highlight of our June 1 meeting was a talk by Laurie Knight, an independent chef and member of the Harvey Girl Historical Society. Laurie gave an informative and entertaining talk about the Harvey Girls, a fascinating time in history. In addition, she brought her delicious raspberry/chocolate tarts for dessert! We appreciate our Vice President, Carol Wright, arranging this fascinating look into the past. New members Val Andrews and Trish Haskell were inducted and we look forward to getting to know them. Big thanks go to new member Julia Salinas, who has jumped right in, volunteering to be a trustee, as well as taking over as Corresponding Secretary. Summer plans were discussed. Instead of our regular July meeting, we will be busy working on our float for the Anza Days parade; preparing the pancake breakfast for Anza Days July 1 and putting on the breakfast for the Anza Electric Cooperative’s annual meeting July 22. On Aug. 3, our regular meeting day, we will gather on the Hamilton Museum lawn for a casual potluck picnic.

big festival and party right in the middle of it and that makes for a pretty good weekend!” Robinson, whose mother is Diane Sieker, a writer with Anza Valley Outlook, said concert goer’s can look forward to a rockin’ good time at the Julian Blues Festival. “We’re going to kind of mix it up,” he said. “We are going to play some songs off my 2008 album “Best Served loud,’ some blues standards and if all goes well, we are going to have a good time all day.” For Robinson, being a blues’ hotshot guitarist is not as much about fame and fortune as it is about making good music. “I knew that I wanted to be a rock star, I never in my wildest dreams could have told you that I would sell sold-out shows in Germany and Sweden,” he said. “If your goal is to set out and become a rock star, you are never going to be a rock star. Your motivation is out of line. The older I get and the more mature I become as a musician, my goal is to write great songs, that is ultimately where it all starts. Performing along with Robinson, will be Preacher Stone bandmembers Jim Bolt on bass and Josh Wyatt on drums. Other featured artists at the Julian Blues Festival, sponsored by Robb Bower Presents, will include Philip Sayce from L.A. by way of Toronto. The most influential man in post-World War II history Harold Pease, Ph. D. Special to Anza Valley Outlook The most influential individual in post-World War II history had a hand in creating the United Nations, even donating the property for the building in 1946. No one has had greater claim to influence since then. By the mid-70s, he owned dominating interests in The New York Times, CBS, NBC and ABC, according to Senate Document 93-62, Disclosure of Corporate Ownership, 1974. He was also chairman of the 50-year-old Council on Foreign Relations, the most powerful special interest group in U. S. history from which both major political parties always selected their secretary of state, ambassador to Russia, China, the United Nations and a third of all cabinet posts. In the last 50 years, until Donald Trump, either the president or the vice president was an open CFR member. Members also held leadership positions in the vast majority of major media outlets in the U.S. Those following his life the last 50 www.anzavalleyoutlook.com

years know him as the one individual in U. S. history who could phone the White House, day or night, and expect the occupant, Democrat or Republican, to come to the phone. He was a confidant of many world leaders. He was powerful enough to persuade President Jimmy Carter to allow his friend, the extremely controversial, despised and deposed Shah of Iran, to come to the United States for medical treatment, disregarding intelligence warnings of retaliation if he did so. This visit resulted in the U.S. Embassy takeover and the Iranian Hostage Crises of 1979-1981. In 1973, he created the Trilateral Commission, the most powerful special interest group in the world, designed to dominate the economies of Japan, North America and Western Europe. His thinking was that dominating these three geographical areas would allow him to indirectly dominate the world. His two notable lieutenants, one Henry Kissinger, influenced Republican administrations, and the other Zig Brzezinski, influenced Democratic administrations, both became household names, the first more so with Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, the latter with Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama. There might be some differences in what became “his” contending political parties, but in things that affected

foreign policy and the interests of the establishment, there were few. Although not a founder of the Bilderbergers, a world government confab of the super-rich from the western world, founded in 1954 by Prince Bernard of the Netherlands, he came to have membership and great influence in this group as well. It is here, behind closed doors, that he was most candid about his world government aspirations. In a 1991 meeting, he spoke of his control of the American press. “We are grateful to The Washington Post, The New York Times, Time magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost 40 years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years. But the world is more sophisticated and prepared to march toward a world government. The supranational sovereignty of and intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practiced in past centuries,” he was quoted to say in an article from The New American, April 17, 2017. Twenty-six years have passed since he boasted of his influence over the press, and most Americans remain blind to the con-

trol over them. What is known as the “Establishment Press” is “his” press. By now most people who read more than just the establishment press or their tributaries, who downplay all the above, know that the most influential person in the postWorld War II era and the one to whom we have referred is David Rockefeller, grandson of oil baron John D. Rockefeller. To the ignorant who still insist that they are not dodo birds, and almost as though to test the level of his ability to manipulate them, he confessed everything. In his published autobiography “Memoirs,” 15 years ago, he wrote, “For more than a century, ideological extremists at either end of the political spectrum … attack the Rockefeller family for the inordinate influence they claim we wield over American political and economic institutions. Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as ‘internationalists’ and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure—one world, if you will. If that’s the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it.” His fingerprints are all over ever free trade agreement, especially NAFTA, FTAA, CAFTA and SPP.

He founded the Council of the Americas, the Americas Society, the forum of the Americas, the U. S. Council of the Mexico-U. S. Business Committee and the Institute of International Economics to accomplish these economic and political unifications. Still, even after his death March 20, 2017, at age 101, “his” press did not share the extent of David Rockefeller’s decades-long control over both major political parties. How is this possible with the level of greatness he acquired? Because the control remains in place? A quiet death with little acclamation does not bring attention to the “secret combination” for economic world power that he waged so successfully. Today his organizations advocating a new world order, including the U.N., are as strong and determined as ever, and they remain mostly undetected. Dr. Harold Pease is a syndicated columnist and an expert on the United States Constitution. He has dedicated his career to studying the writings of the Founding Fathers and to applying that knowledge to current events. He has taught history and political science from this perspective for over 30 years at Taft College. To read more of his weekly articles, visit www. LibertyUnderFire.org.

Nights from page A-1 Meanwhile, scrumptious fry bread tacos and refreshing juices were available to refuel. A festive excitement was in the air all evening. A gaming trailer or mobile game theater by Party Trock arrived and set up, impressing both big and little children. The self-contained system featured a large trailer equipped with four 55-inch TV screens inside and two more outside, played video games selected by the players. Inside, the comfortable seating allowed for over a dozen participants to all enjoy the fun. Laser lights played over the contestants as they concentrated on the digital goingson. This professional and well-done entertainment center was extremely popular that evening. Budding caricaturist Sunny Jacqueline Sutton sketched willing subjects and created some stunning and perfect likenesses in pen and ink. Her clever art went viral on social media after the event, with each person pictured being easily identified. As darkness fell, Mark Huston and the Workin’ Men took to the stage. Frontman Mark Huston was backed by Rocky Carassco on lead guitar, Jerry Del playing bass and Bob Miller pounding the drums as he crooned country and rock hits. The crowd grew and the cheering and applause could be heard for miles. Dancers whirled about in front of the stage. “I want to give back to the community, I did this for the children, to give them something positive to do,” Kitchen said.
