FINISHED

Ifyourfurnitureislooking abittired, itcouldbe theperfect candidatefor amakeover!Whether you fancy havingagoyourself, or commissioningHilary &Alice to createamasterpiece for you, here are5simple steps to follow:

BEFORE

Cleaning

No matter howgood yourpaint is,ifthere’sdirtunderneaththen it won’t stand thetestoftime,so thoroughly clean thepieceinside andout. AutenticoOmnicleanis great forstubborndirtorreally oldfurniture,as it getsridofany smelly nasties, or a simple sugarsoap solution will do if things aren’t too grotty. Remember to rinsewith clean water andallow to drycompletely beforestartingto paint.

Preparation

Giveyour piecea thorough ‘key’, which meansscuffingthe surfacewithfine sandpapertobreak theshinysurface andgivethe paint something to stick to.Weusethe Autentico Versanterange, which is ahighquality paint designed forfurniture–butitcan also beused on wallsif youwant to createa featurewall to matchyour furniture. Next,fix/repairanyissues –gluejoints, fillholes, replace runnersetc.Alsotapeupanyareas youdon’t wantpaint to getinto, such asdrawer edgesandglass.

Paint

Applythincoatsofpaint fora smoothfinish, andmakesure your brushstrokes areallin thesamedirection. For amore rusticfinish, apply thepaintin alldirections. It’salwaysbetter to apply an extracoatthinlythan slap on toomuchpaintin one go.Leave 4hoursbetween coatsif yourpainthas awax/sealer init, to allow it to cure.

DURING

Detail

Once you’vefinishedpainting, decideon thedetail to make your piece extraspecial. We stocka widerangeofdecoupagepapers, transfers, metallicpaintsand leaf, wallpapers, paintinlaysand more to make your piece‘pop’! Simply changingthedoorknobs canmakea hugedifferenceto theend result...westock lotsof these too!

Waxorvarnish

Some furniturepaints require afinishing product to sealit. Dothisright at theend as once you’vewaxed yourmasterpiece it’sdifficulttomakeany changes afterwards.
