Artists, Authors & Agriculture Exhibition

Artists, Authors, and Agriculture

An exhibition showcasing the accomplishments of the region’s most talented and creative artists and authors – and the farming landscapes they are associated with – is being held at St Mary’s Church in Bungay from 22 October to 30 October.

This focus of this exhibition is some of the most famous residents of the Waveney Valley and wider area, including probably its best known artist, Sir Alfred Munnings, who produced some of his finest paintings in his native village of Mendham. The show also includes artist John Constable Reeve of Mettingham, who was also a farmer.

Local authors featured include George Ewart Evans, the Sir Alfred Munnings

oral history recorder, Adrian Bell, who wrote novels and memoirs relating to his long farming career, and Sir Henry Rider Haggard, who was not only a prolific and best-selling novelist with such adventure stories as King Solomon’s Mines, and Allan Quatermain, but also farmed a 240-acre estate at Ditchingham. He was knighted for his agricultural reforms.

The exhibition is in St. Mary’s church, Bungay, Saturday

22 October – Sunday 30 October, 10am-4pm. Preview: Friday 21 October

at 7pm. Admission free, but donations welcomed. For further information contact Keith Parker on 01986 893133, or John Warnes on 01986 892855.
