Billingshurst Cricket Club: Cricket opportunities for all

Cricket Opportunities For All

As the 2022 cricket season approaches Billingshurst CC look to offer opportunities for everyone to play our summer sport. The three competitive Sussex League XIs are joined by a Sunday ‘Friendly’ side, a women’s section and an expanding youth (Colt) set up.

Fixtures are played at Jubilee Fields on the outskirts of the village and the club runs social events during the year, including a six-a-side competition, aimed at promoting a club spirit and including all who would like to play or watch cricket.

It has been an exciting few months for the Billingshurst Belles Women’s cricket softball team. Over the winter months, they have played a series of matches in the Indoor Softball Cricket League against teams from Chiddingfold, Grayswood, Fernhurst and Petworth. This is a fast-paced game consisting of 12 6-ball overs, lasting no longer than 90 minutes. A great opportunity for the team to practise their skills ready for the outdoor season starting in April.

Over the May Bank Holiday, 13 of the team are travelling to the Isle of Wight for the first Billingshurst Belles IoW Cricket Tour. Playing three local teams across the weekend this should be a fantastic experience for the whole side.

The women’s cricket fixture diary is already filling up with both league and tournament events being entered this year. During the season the side will pair up with Steyning CC for hardball cricket practice for those who want to take their cricket to the next stage. The club will once again offer opportunities for youth cricket across the various age groups. This includes coaching and then onto fixtures against local sides. A pathway into adult cricket is provided by the Sunday Friendly XI and the 3rd XI who compete in the Sussex league. Many of the current first team players have progressed through the club’s youth teams. Players (of any level), spectators, newcomers (especially umpires and scorers!) will always be made welcome at Jubilee Fields.
