I am thrilled to share with you the best of Villa Carlotta Travel’s Western Australian, interstate and international tours in this magazine. It was wonderful to be back experiencing some of our favourite interstate destinations in 2022 such as Kangaroo Island and Tasmania. With overseas travel restrictions having now eased, I’m looking forward to hearing stories from those of you who explore New Zealand on one of our journeys there, later this year or early 2024.

I jumped at the opportunity to join Villa’s tour to the largest rock in the world, Western Australia’s very own Mt. Augustus last year and I’m crossing my fingers I can join our brand new Goldfields tour which you can find on page 17.

Villa’s inspiring travel expo is back next month on Thursday 9 February at the State Library of WA, as are our monthly travel information sessions. These events are a fantastic opportunity to meet our tour leaders and ask all the nitty gritty questions about your preferred destination. If you’re in Perth, do come along, say g’day and share a cuppa or two. You can learn more about these events on the back page of this magazine.

Tour Activity Levels

A guide to which tours may suit you

With such a diverse collection of travel options at Villa, we want to ensure you choose the right holiday for you. The below icons are a guide to the required fitness level for each Villa holiday.

Relaxed

Suitable for travellers with low mobility. You will be required to embark/disembark coaches, trains and other transport via steps unaided. You must be able to carry your own luggage and walk short distances. Stairs may need to be negotiated at times. Travellers with walking aids (sticks and walkers) are welcome and those requiring accompanying assistance and/or carer may consider these holidays.

Moderate

Required to walk confidently and unaided. Expect guided walking tours of attractions with occasional inclines and stair climbs, some long days and multiple hotel changes during the holiday. Your accommodation may require access via stairs, a short walk to reach hotel facilities and have showers over baths.

Active

Requires some fitness. Involves longer days filled with activities, excursions requiring standing and walking for extended periods of time and nature-based activities. You will be required to walk confidently over uneven ground and surfaces at a timely pace.

Highly Active

Requires good general fitness. Excursions will be over more difficult terrain and require a certain level of agility. You will be required to walk confidently for up to three hours over uneven surfaces including soft sand, rocks and creek crossings. Some itineraries will explore remote locations.

Challenging

A high level of fitness is required. Tours have an emphasis on active pursuits and often explore remote locations which are challenging to access. You will be required to walk confidently for up to six or more hours per day and have experience in outdoor pursuits.

In order to protect the health and wellbeing of our staff and suppliers, electric scooters and buggies are not permitted on Villa tours. Your health, wellbeing and enjoyment of the holiday is very important to us. Anyone providing care or assistance to others must be fit and able to provide the required support and care.

Our Just for Singles holidays are for solo travellers.

These tours are a fantastic way to travel with likeminded travellers in safety and comfort. Choose to travel by yourself, bring a friend or we can assist you in finding a travelling companion to share a room.

Our Discovery holidays are for more active adventurers.

Discovery holidays cater for the more adventurous, active and culturally inquisitive travellers who are looking to get off the beaten track. These tour groups range in size from 10 to 20 guests.

North West Spectacular

Visit Western Australia’s North West to explore the Pilbara’s rust-red desert and ancient gorges, as well as Ningaloo Reef’s unspoilt beaches and myriad of marine life.

Day 1. Perth to Dalwallinu

We collect you from your Perth hotel for the journey north, before heading to the Bindoon Museum to meet the local historical society and view the history of the Bindoon and Chittering Shires. Day 2. Dalwallinu to Meekatharra

Gain an insight into early pastoral and gold mining activities of the West Australian outback today on the journey to Meekatharra. Pass through Paynes Find and the historic towns of Mount Magnet and Cue before arriving in Meekatharra. Overnight: Auski Inland Motel, Meekatharra (BD)

Day 3. Meekatharra to Newman

We will continue the journey north to Newman, where we will join a guided tour of the Mount Whaleback iron ore mine, the largest of BHP Billiton’s mining operations and one of the largest open cut ore mines in the world (closed in shoes, long sleeved tops to the wrists and long pants to the ankles are essential for this tour). Day 4. Karijini National Park

Upon arrival in Karijini National Park, settle in to your eco-luxe safari tent (complete with en suite) and immerse yourself in the Australian outback. (We recommend that you take a small torch or flash light for walking to and from the dining room from your tents after dark. Warm bed clothing is essential when staying at Karijini as the temperature drops dramatically at night, quite often to subzero temperatures). Day 5. Karijini National Park

Spend the day exploring one of Australia’s largest and most spectacular National Parks. Take in the incredible sheer gorges, breathtaking waterfalls and clear, fresh pools at Dales and Joffre Gorges and Fortescue Falls. Overnight: Karijini Eco Retreat, Karijini National Park (BLD)

Day 6. Karijini to Exmouth

Board the Yardie Creek cruise in the heart of the Cape Range National Park this morning to view wildlife including rare black-footed rock wallabies. Overnight: Potshot Hotel Resort, Exmouth (BD)

Day 8. Bullara Station & Coral Bay

Depart Exmouth this morning to commence our journey south, stopping in at Bullara Station to marvel at the wonders of the Australian outback and life on a working cattle station. Upon arrival in Coral Bay, we will get a glimpse of Ningaloo Reef’s myriad of marine life and colourful coral on a glass bottom boat. Overnight: Best Western Hospitality Inn, Carnarvon (BD)

Day 9. Carnarvon to Geraldton

We will continue our journey south today, stopping along the way at Wooramel Station, where we will get a taste of life on an operational outback station. Discover the story behind the hot baths and enjoy lunch at this family-owned cattle, sheep and goat station. Pack a day bag containing bathers and a towel just in case time allows for a brief dip in the hot baths! Then we will continue the journey south along the North West Coastal Highway to Geraldton. Day 10. Geraldton to Perth

Today we will travel to Jurien Bay for a farewell lunch. Upon arrival in Perth we will see you safely back to your hotel (BL).
