Selle Italia’s Identity Matching System requests the following data from the rider:
The distance between the two ischial tuberosities of the pelvis is known as the intertrochanteric distance. Measuring this distance is essential for the analysis of the rider’s pelvis. idmatch uses pelvic calipers to obtain it.
You will be able to provide your thigh circumference, by measuring the diameter of your upper leg just below the buttocks with the metric tape measure provided. By relating intertrochanteric distance to thigh circumference parameters, the Identity Matching System calculates the distance between the ischiatic tuberosities, which is where the pressure points on the saddle originate.
A unique element of the Identity Matching System is the pelvic inclinometer, which measures the rotation of the pelvis of an individual. Pelvic rotation varies from rider to rider so this data is also essential, obtainable by the saddle fitter from your lower back when bent forward. In this way, the computer determines the rotation of the rider’s pelvis and recommend the most comfortable Selle Italia saddle, be it a Flow, Gel Flow or other type.

Definiamo distanza intertrocanterica la misura della distanza tra le due grandi tuberosità del femore. Tale distanza è fondamentale per lo studio del bacino ed è rilevabile attraverso uno strumento chiamato calibro.
La circonferenza della coscia si rileva alla radice del gluteo con uno strumento chiamato fettuccia metrica. Relazionando questo parametro al precedente, è possibile ricavare la distanza delle ossa ischiatiche, cioè i punti d’appoggio sulla sella.

ROTAZIONE DEL BACINO Per misurare l’inclinazione del bacino è necessario lo strumento chiamato inclinometro pelvico. Questo dato permette di analizzare la rotazione del bacino e quindi di scoprire se, per un maggior comfort, è necessario utilizzare una sella con taglio anatomico centrale.

The BRP or Biomechanical Reference Point relates to the accepted parameters for the correct positioning of a rider on a bike in terms of saddle height, front to back placement, distance/ height difference of saddle to bars. To identify the point, it is necessary to establish where the midline intersects with a perpendicular line passing through the 70 mm width of the saddle (insert drawing of saddle top with two BRP lines). The identification of the BRP is based on observations of cyclists’ attitudes whereby regardless of type, brand or model, saddles are adjusted at the same distance from the BRP. Although this distance is subjective and should differ from person to person, it always remains a constant trend in behaviour. The tests carried out have shown that 60% of cyclists tend to sit too far forward, putting too much weight on the pubic symphysis instead of the ischial bones

The effect of this is to negate the intended comfort that a well-designed saddle otherwise guarantees; the FIT LINE, therefore, serves as a guide to the correct positioning the saddle. If the cyclist, when seated and gripping the handlebars, cannot see the FIT LINE, it means that the saddle is too far forward. The FIT LINE is the red line on the nose of the Idmatch test saddle. It is always at 110 mm from the BRP and enables cyclists to correctly position themselves on a saddle.

Il BRP o Biomechanical Reference Point, è il punto, della linea mediana di riferimento, per misurare i parametri utili al montaggio della bicicletta (altezza sella, arretramento sella, distanza sella-manubrio). Per individuarlo è necessario stabilire il punto in cui la sella raggiunge la larghezza di 70 mm. L’individuazione del BRP nasce dall’osservazione dell’atteggiamento dei ciclisti, da cui emerge una costante: indipendentemente dalla tipologia, dalla marca o dal modello, tutti i ciclisti si posizionano sulla sella ad una distanza sempre uguale dal BRP. Sebbene questa distanza sia soggettiva e quindi differente da ciclista a ciclista, essa rimane sempre uguale per lo stesso soggetto.

La linea rossa presente sul naso delle selle test idmatch, chiamata FIT LINE (che corrisponde sempre a 110 mm di distanza dal BRP) è un sistema adottato per consentire ai ciclisti di sedersi correttamente sulla sella. I test effettuati hanno dimostrato infatti che più del 60% dei ciclisti si appoggia troppo avanti sulla sella scaricando il peso prevalentemente sulla sinfisi pubica e non sulle ossa ischiatiche, vanificando così il comfort che può garantire anche la sella meglio concepita; la linea del FIT LINE serve quindi come guida al corretto posizionamento sulla sella. Se il ciclista, infatti, seduto e con le mani sul manubrio, non riesce a vedere la FIT LINE significa che la sua posizione sulla sella è troppo avanzata.
