Architecture is a dialogue between the space and its inhabitant It is at the forefront of the arts, a tool of the artist to tell stories through spatial tectonics I am fascinated by the aspect of architecture as a storytelling device. As a young architectural designer, I yearn to express narratives that are embedded in our culture and society and convey them through the medium of design Apart from that, I am striving to grow and learn from the architectural field, discovering my ways and cultivating my design and artistic process in my foray into this career path

“I always felt that architecture was as much about spaces as about the events that take place in those spaces, and that under no circumstance could an architect ignore the disturbing or disrupting factor that the use that one would make of one's building would have on the building. In other words, that always you had to look at architecture in relationship to the way it was being used, not at all in a functionalist manner I don't believe there's a cause and effect relationship between a function and a type of space but very much how they bounce against one another, how the action and spaces come to play, interact, reinforce or contradict one another ” Interview

POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES

The redevelopment of the PUP Mabini Campus was an endeavor anchored towards adapting the existing masterplan and transforming it into a multifaceted university campus through a High Performance design approach I was tasked to design the campus master plan, incorporating a narrative that would elevate the campus identity and brand through strategic planning The principles for the design of the campus were to highlight the campus culture and foster the spirit of activism which PUP is known for A campus such as PUP must keep a space where speech can be democratized and the voice of the students can prevail with more dominance, and it can be achieved by providing spaces sensitive to the needs of the campus community Educational Institution Anonas St., Sta. Mesa, Manila Ar. Murielle N. Gallardo Cristobal Kriz Anne Valerie Vargas, John Nixon Vacalares, Brian Jude Bulat ag, John Albert Viloria, Jannah Nicole Guevarra

is symbolic of the sensibilities of PUPians and a prominent landmark at the heart of the university, and so, to establish the new site program, the obelisk was utilized as a reference point The obelisk is directly connected to the line of sight coming from the main entry This would allow for the vista to be following the axis, creating a sense of foreground and background within the site The site was then divided into quadrants following the established axis

Each quadrant represents the new zoning program of the site that will create a concentration of activities within the university premise: , located in the northeastern portion was used as the new Sport and Recreational zone, with the Track and Field directly facing Anonas Street to serve as a noise buffer This zone also accommodates the CHK building, the Gymnasium, the Olympic pool, and outdoor courts , situated in the southwest, was utilized as the Academic zone where the various College Buildings and the Administrative building are located By relocating the academic zone in this area, prominent noise intrusion coming from the public street and the PNR transit will be mitigated The southeast houses where the library building and the dormitories are located; And finally, the northern portion of the site known as , is a public accessible area, with the Charlie Del Rosario building, Tahanan ng Alumni, Mabini Shrine and Museum, the Visitor’s Center, and the 100 slot parking area being the highlight of the zone

The minor roads are 6 meter wide, penetrating every zoned portion of the site.

The gate was designed with the intent of framing the view of the obelisk and the main building This is to create a sense of arrival as trees hover the walled structure The archway conveys a strong sharp silhouette expressing the rays of light as symbolic of the phrase “tanglaw ng bayan” The material and color palette are also representative of the university’s identity with its match of maroon and gold

MAYARI CLUBHOUSE

Hospitality

NEW CLARK CITY EXECUTIVEVILLAGE I was tasked to design the Clubhouse for the proposed 1, 030, 000 sqm New Clark City Executive Village The process for the design of the typology became an exploration of the tropical viability of the clubhouse within the Village The main conceptual precedent was based on the design and tropical strategies applied in the native "Mamanwa" architecture of the Aeta Ethnic Tribe and the basic form and massing pay homage to Mt. Pinatubo marrying traditions with a modern approach. Our ethos for the overall visual design and aesthetic approach of the subdivision is anchored according to the purpose of representing the culture of the Aeta Tribe. The importance of indigenous iconography in promoting the cultural and traditional values of the Aeta community by giving equal value and representation to the IP community of the Aeta Tribe, placing the culture and tradition of the ill forgotten tribe at the forefront of the design Integrating the design towards the aspiration of the New Clark City Executive Village, Tropical Modernism became a profound approach to creating an emergence between a traditional strategy in passive cooling and lighting with the language of modern vernacular architecture The clubhouse is deemed to become an architectural icon within the heart of the subdivision.

The history of the "Balangay" predates the genesis of the basic political system in the Philippines during the pre colonial era. The Balangay is the oldest pre Hispanic watercraft found in the Philippines Being the first wooden watercraft excavated in Southeast Asia, the balangay provides proof of the early Filipinos’ maritime expertise and skill in boat building during the pre colonial times Each boat carried a large family group, and the master of the boat retained power as leader, or datu, of the village established by his family Using the historical significance of the Balangay to inform the idea for the Design Concept, the project will be utilizing 4 core principles in designing the New Civic Center of Marilao The principles will encompass the concepts of "Community", "People Governance", "Trade and Commerce", and finally, "Filipino Culture and Tradition“ to inform the design of the Civic Center.

The takes center stage of the Civic Center For its design, the emphasis was put on defining the building’s structure with a strong geometric form, a silhouette that would allow for it to standout from the rest of the adjacent structures The façade expresses through the roof design The butterfly roof was designed to allow natural light to permeate all throughout the building, this roof configuration would also allow for the structure to have its distinct form that reflects the sharp silhouette of the Balangay boat

PEOPLE’S PARK IN THE SKY

is an Urban Agricultural Learning and Research Center conceived to emphasize the transformation of the People’s Park in the Sky into a beacon of Agrotourism in Tagaytay City. The brief for this project took inspiration from the history of the site which is now slowly fading into memory and has left a deep mark on its people. The former ‘Palace in the Sky is an endeavor that favored the aspirations of a corrupt administration to establish an image of grandeur while turning a blind eye to the reality of its people’s conditions. means “metamorphosis”, a biological process involving change, and growth By opening the wounds of the past, we are reviving the memory of a place and its forgotten history through the lens of architecture In this adaptive reuse project, the focus was lent to the farmers of Tagaytay as the primary recipient of this project The approach to Banyuhay was guided by the necessity of the people in Tagaytay, we wanted to focus on the small scale Farm workers, who, according to history, were the most exploited during the early construction period of the Marcos’ “palace”. Filipino farmers are also known to be the most underpaid in the economic sector With these concepts laid down, the course for the project is set. The primary objective was to convert the former mansion into a large scale agricultural facility that will feature innovative farming methods. The potential of an indoor farm is immensely beneficial to the agricultural sector in dense urban areas, such as Tagaytay City, and with the advent of an untimely pandemic, the Philippine agricultural sector will be needing much more reinforcement
