The Colac Concourse
6
Concourse is a festival that brings people and artists from different background together. It
provides them a stage to perform and a stage for their voice. It is a place for lesser known or emerging artists or even the general public to create and perform. A festival that embraces the idea of democratization of music, giving everyone an accessible platform and setting to perform to live audience. In this festival the boundary between
audience and performers are challenged, as everyone is invited and allowed to perform.
The idea of kintsugi has been adopted for this architecture to allow for intimacy. It starts with a typical amphitheater layout in which the audience spaces are fragmented and re laid out to surround the stages, allowing for a more inti-
mate performance venue even for 2000 audience.
Programmatically, back of house programs that are usually hidden, and unseen are rearranged to allow for it to be experienced, blurring the delineation between the back and front of house.

The design starts with the optimization of the shell that has been done parametrically. The parameters include shells protrusion, separations, Height, width, and its concavity. Additional interventions such as the back shells, optimization of the side and back walls and the addition of the reflector that is hung above the stage. These optimizations are done using a parametric generator where ultimately the best solution is selected.
The final best solution is one that achieve a high enough sound
pressure level but also one that is evenly distributed to all audience seats across the amphitheater. This is done using a geodesic sound source represented as X that has been arranged asymmetrically to ensure that the shell will perform well for different sound source.

The typical journey will bring audience from the front lobby all around the architecture to experience the back of house as part of the festival spectacle instead of being hidden away from sight.
This fragmented canopy allows audience to experience the quarry from inside the amphitheater.

Modular Concordia
In collaboration with:
12
Modular Concordia explores a modular framework proposal that reconnects and rebalances human and nature. The journey to
net-zero ambulance station branch begins at the very beginning of the design in focusing on a holistic design strategy.
Modular strategy becomes the nexus of the design as Ambulance Victoria branches will have similar configurations and requirements across different sites. Modules are optimised within a set kit-of-parts
that will become the lexicon for future ambulance branches. This strategy minimises construction waste and time that leads to the reduction of carbon. The modules are also designed within a set of materials that have low embodied energy while allowing for futureproofing as newer eco-friendly materials are being discovered or produced.
13
Design Framework
The Design philosophy and methodology allows the modularity to expand to more than one ambulance branch. The logic allows for inclusion, collaborations, specific customisations, site optimisation and futureproofing for different needs.

As I ascend higher and higher, my footing abandons me, a small wrong step, and it is all over for me.
I see the ray from the top, I dare not see what lies beneath me. There I go, peering down. There I realise the truth and the secret.
Safety regulations on Parisian circus acts have tightened over the beginning of the 21st century. Raw technical skill is being substituted for visual and audio theatrical effects, resulting in the disappearance of adept and brave performers.
Ministry of Thrill explores verticality and concealment through formal, materials and programmatic respons-
es. It provides a place to empower a community of past circus masters: The Ringmaster, The Acrobat Master and The Lion Tamer. These Suspense Apostles believe that heavy reliance on technology leads to mediocrity in contemporary circus.
The Ministry provides a platform to preach and spread the faith of thrill and danger.
23
Value of Thrill
The journey through the Ministry will allow the newcomers to understand the value of thrill and the attractiveness of danger. When one takes the risk and embrace the dangerous condition of the site, one will be rewarded with knowing the truth. The journey through the architecture acts like a rite of passage to understand the value of danger and thrill.

Rumah Ombak
Indonesian people are notorious for their “Kampoeng” Spirit - a neighbourly character that has been rooted in their sense of community - an identity. Rumah Ombak is designed to
leverage this value in the condition of extreme emergency as a rescue vessel and a temporary rescue shelter for people in need.
The house is specificallt designed for emergency responders, catering for their needs for quick response, facilitating agile movements with a small footprint.
Elements such as emergency tube, ladders,
operable walls and dynamic floors and responsive roofs are designed to interact with the emergency responders, allowing it ro react to a quick need.
Using fragments of recyclable materials that are easily found in the vernacular of Jakarta, the house transforms into a playful chambers that facillitate different emergency situations and needs.
29
Challenges and Predicaments
Rumah Ombak directly translates into House of Waves. It is designed to break the common notion for a tiny house, a house that is more than a roof and four walls - responding to a real and emerging crisis in Jakarta, the major flooding and sinking of the capital city. Floods has become an annual catastrophe
that majorly affects thousands of lives, providing a new design paradigm in creating a house, a place people call home, a place for comfort and safety. A state of constant flux, yet constantly damaging, consistently disrupting everyday lives, forever traumatising and displacing communities, damaging not only the physical but the psychological, regionally and nationally.
Patterns of rainfall and floods in Java has deteriorated rapidly in the last decade. Accelerated by irresponsible governmental management, ineffective urban planning and climate change, massive flooding has become a natural disaster that constantly inteferes with human lives.
