Portfolio of Professional Work

One Park Center Tower San Francisco Redevelopment Agency San Francisco, California Project Designer working closely with the partner-in-charge developing ideas, making study models and design drawings. The project was won by design competition. Worked on the schematics, design development and construction drawings. Coordinated my duties with the project manager and consultants. Obtained design approvals from the San Francesco Redevelopment Agency.

Site is located in the Yerba Buena district of San Francisco, diagonally across the convention center. Viewed from the south approaching the city, the design recalls the city landmark Coit Tower. The massing is articulated to reduce the visual impact of 35 floors. Adjacent and incorporated into the design is a four-story historic structure. Vincenzo Polsinelli / Pei Cobb Freed & Partners

Portfolio of Professional Work

Forty-Second Street Project New York City, New York Project Designer working with the Design Partner preparing multiple concept designs. My work consisted of preparing designs that responded to zoning studies, bulk and massing diagrams. Organized client presentations, produced final design drawings and coordinated the work for the model.

This project is a development for a commercial high-rise structure (975 feet) and retail complex. Project is located on a preeminent site in mid-town on Sixth Avenue at FortySecond and Forty-Third Streets extending mid-block. Articulated massing facing the avenue and Bryant Park is intended to maintain the urban context. Vertical slots give height emphasis to the massing and setbacks give scale. Vincenzo Polsinelli / Pei Cobb Freed & Partners

Portfolio of Professional Work

Highrise Office Building Competition Dusseldorf, Germany Project Designer with shared responsibilities for preparing multiple studies. Worked closely with the partner-in-charge to develop ideas, make study models and prepare final design. Coordinated the submission.

The setting for the project is the KÜlner Strasse adjacent to the city’s major park. On the ground level this project maximizes the opportunities for pedestrian circulation addressing open space and public access by creating gardens and promenades. The tower mass makes a memorable landmark shape providing geometric distinction and different profiles from any view position. Energy efficient design results in all offices having operable windows with views to the exterior. The project area is 85,000 square meters comprising the Tower (40 floors) and adjacent low-rise buildings. Vincenzo Polsinelli / Pei Cobb Freed & Partners

Portfolio of Professional Work

Wilshire Development Los Angeles, California Project Designer working closely with the partner-in-charge developing ideas, making study models and design drawings.

The site is on Wilshire Boulevard of the Miracle Mile district and adjacent to the La Brea Tar Pits. The project proposes two office buildings with below grade parking, and shops on the ground level. A line drawn between the opposite corners of the site makes a 1 to 3 angle used to organize the structures. Building volumes derived from cut and segmented circles create unobstructed views to the surrounding Hollywood Hills. Vincenzo Polsinelli / Pei Cobb Freed & Partners

Portfolio of Professional Work

The space program of three million square feet consists of offices, hotels, convention facilities and restaurants. The plan internalizes the public realm creating a major open garden in the center, framed by two hotels and three office buildings. Each building has multiple story atriums which bring natural light into the internal offices and rooms. The articulated precast concrete faรงade panels are enhanced by sunlight. Vincenzo Polsinelli / Pei Cobb Freed & Partners

High Museum of Art Atlanta, Georgia Technical Designer responsible for detailing in coordination with other team members and consultants. Prepared sketches of construction details distributed in advance to consultants and contractor. Final working drawings were prepared from the same sketches. Construction followed the “fast track method as the sketches served to deliver the design intent while the museum was in construction.

At the end of the exterior ramp one enters the museum and passes into the open fourstory atrium. The light-filled atrium space is inspired by the central space of the NYC Guggenheim Museum. A separation of circulation and gallery space allows the atrium to organize the system of movement. This separation also allows the atrium walls to have windows which admit natural light and offer framed views of the city. Vincenzo Polsinelli / Richard Meier & Partners

Portfolio of Professional Work

Des Moines Art Center Addition Des Moines, Iowa Technical Designer responsible for detailing in coordination with other team members and consultants. Prepared sketches of construction details distributed in advance to consultants and contractor. Final working drawings were prepared from the same sketches. Construction followed the “fast track method as the sketches served to deliver the design intent while the museum was in construction.

The museum was designed in 1948 by Eliel Saarinen and consisted of a U-shaped plan. In 1965, I.M. Pei added a block closing the original U-plan in order to create an internal sculpture court. The addition was designed as series of separate volumes to accommodate the required expansion without producing a large mass. Accordingly, three new additions were located around the existing complex. Vincenzo Polsinelli / Richard Meier & Partners

Portfolio of Professional Work

Bauer College of Business University of Houston Houston, TX Lead Designer for the expansion to and re-design of the existing building (triangle shape). Developed and prepared space needs, investigated different campus sites and designed various conceptual schemes. Coordinated consultants, conducted faculty interviews / presentations, and prepared budgets.

The existing building could not accommodate the projected student growth anticipated over a 10-year period. It was demonstrated that an additional 195,000 square feet of space would be necessary to meet the School’s needs. The expansion is defined by a central courtyard that incorporates the existing building so that the campus’ open spaces are enhanced.

TV Production Company New York City, New York An adaptive reuse project, the 1871 twostory building was re-built converting it to an advertising studio from warehouse use in lower Manhattan. The most was made out of organizing internal spaces in a long narrow shape with abutting buildings on three sides. The original cast-iron facade restored to respect the existing architecture in its industrial context. Reconstituted, it became a screen to the new building front wall of glass block and steel setback to create a recessed entrance behind the renewed original faรงade. Plan orientation allows views from deep inside to the park in front. Natural light filters through newly created openings of the glass floor terrace and restored cupola. The project was bestowed the American Institute of Architects national design award. .

Vincenzo Polsinelli / V Polsinelli Architects

Portfolio of Professional Work

Manhattan Rooftop Addition Tribeca Historic District New York City, New York The project adds a 5-story residence above the commercial building completed independently 15 years earlier. Inspired by the existing cast iron screen below, the new threestory screen wall creates an open-air “winter garden constructed of clear glass panels supported by a custom cast-bronze truss system 40 feet above the street. Facing north, this space includes landscaping intended to relate with the park in the front.

A glass elevator travels between the front screen walls and their background facades, linking the 20th century adaptive re-use project to the 21st century addition.

NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission approved. Vincenzo Polsinelli / V Polsinelli Architects

Portfolio of Professional Work

Private Villa Guana Island, Antigua, West Indies Technical Designer investigating construction methods suitable for the isolated island collaborating with the partner in charge for design. Investigated use of off-site manufactured products such as pre-engineered wood structure, prefabrication components and repetitive elements.

Private villa of 22,000 square feet located on a site where the prevailing winds and views define its shape. The villa’s low profile below the tree line integrates the new construction into its setting. The long curving wall organizes the spaces, provides privacy and makes for a shaded promenade similar to Hadrian’s Villa in Tivoli, Italy. The roof is a single plane with patio interruptions between functional spaces; it is connected to the curved wall indirectly through a step accommodating clearstory windows and equipments.
