The whole project resolves around the problems to reconnect the local residents with Nicollet Island long last history, and to provide a educational institute for the public. The program provides two main entrances for the expert and the public. The two entrances create a strong linear connection to the public of Nicollet Island and Anthony Fall - a sacred symbol for the island. Programs from the two entrances blend in together at center to allow the meet of archaeology and everyday life.

Capital One Performance Art Center Instructor: Nat Madson ; James Kehl Fall Studio 2017 Capital One Performance Art Center is located at Tyson Corner, VA. The project deals with the disconnection of the suburban area. Performance aspect and community education are needed to unite the isolated community. Two performance theaters , public classrom, and a roof-level park are used to bring in the community and to connect metro train and cityscape surrounding the site. My idea of creating a veil screen wrap around from the exterior into interior and back out again to inform the different program of the design. At some point curtain wall is pulled back to create spatially depth. The void space creates a welcoming and special quality to draw public’s attention. The screen seperates programs spatially but connects programs acoustically and creates curiosity for users. Users only get partial view into the program from exterior. Once entering into central space, they will be released into full experience of the complexity.

Nicollet Avenue Redesign is a commercial street that is made to prioritize pedestrians and cyclists. The design provides a straight connection from Riverfront to Loring Park. However, poor accessibility and isolated zones caused by current planning seriously harm the great potential of Nicollet Mall. It is essential to redifine the Urban living condition into three mixed sections: Leisure, Living, and Working. Three sections harmonize together along the Nicollet Avenue to create variant of activities for the public use and attraction point for pedestrians. Nicollet Avenue design also gives back the opportunities for local business to further strentheng the community of downtown Minneapolis. Widening street and more public gathering spaces are used to invite the public to the mall after work. Park and other public facilities are used to further connect the local resident and bring in new year-round outdoor activities.
