CREATOR'S LETTER

hotography, fashion, and editorial publishing are worlds that live in close contact with each other. Being successful in one of these does not guarantee the same result in the others, but being a professional figure who can express his or her ideas in each of these can lead to considerable success. Being a nobody, having many ideas but few connections, can reveal a hard truth: making a name for yourself in one of these worlds can take a lot of effort, sacrifice, and sometimes luck, most of the time without pay and with the excuse of a portfolio. Vindicta was born to offer a space for free creativity and expression to a growing contemporary movement of young artists, photographers, writers, and graphic designers on whom a single and precise constraint is imposed: to be themselves. Tired of submitting photographic projects to inconclusive competitions, self-proclaimed magazines and always waiting for an already written outcome, I realized how the lack of a print and digital space made for artists by artists represents a serious gap in the landscape of this monochromatic society. The purpose of this space, magazine, is to place in the hands of young and emerging artists a small window that lets them boldly look out to the world, which is right in front of them, and made available to anyone who has something to say, without portfolio constraints and useless academic credentials, the latter held up by a very small and elitist percentage of the population. The intent is to clear contemporary free art from the labels society wants to impose., What really matters are our ideas, values and opinions, not a lilac-scented piece of paper. This first issue, called "Zero Hour," is a starting point to build in the future, and with future issues, a space for anyone and made by anyone. This is in fact the Zero Hour for us emerging artists, a revenge against this oppressive society, a liberation of our ideas and ideals. Show us who you are and we will show you to the world. V.

eing oneself' and 'proving oneself' are ideas so similar, yet so distant from each other. The life of a human being can be seen as a compendium of situations, choices, appearances, and masks all different from each other. The latter represents a very important feature in our lives: just like at a costume ball, each of us has the ability to choose which mask to wear based on the event and the participants; we potentially have the power to choose what part of ourselves to show, when and how we wish. In fact, it can be very difficult to expose ourselves naked to the world, especially to an audience that does not guarantee us trust, preferring sometimes to display different versions of the self, clashing with the truthful one. In today's society, showing one's face free of masks is an event that happens to be more unique than rare. It can be hypothesized how these different interpretations of the self, each deﬁned by a Voice - mask - may lie dormant in a long and exhausting rest until they are called to the surface, where they are worn, one at a time. When a voice reaches the surface, it is exposed to the heat of the light and the risks involved. The other Voices, the truest, most sincere, and edgy ones often lie in the dark in

the depths of the soul; these must deal with an uncomfortable antagonist, Time. The latter presents himself to the Voices without warning, bringing them nothing more than coldness and oppression. One must therefore be careful what mask is being used on the surface: the longer it remains exposed to radiant light, the more it will not want to return to the chill of the depths of the self.

IVINE wants to be a source of inspiration to awaken in you the will to bring these hidden and genuine Voices to your surface. It also seeks to be a medium through which you can give these Voices fresh oxygen to deﬁne with boldness and certainty your true self. Be heedless of the consensus and opinion of others, and show yourselves for who you are and in the versions that you are. Do not leave a ﬁctitious legacy to posterity; rather, be an example of freedom of expression. Above all, be your own deity. Leave your mark on this colorless world. V.

TWO BY TWO D uality never quits on the human soul. A thousand faces represent us, but are always paired two by two. We are not spheres, we are 'milledriums' paired to parallel planes, and joined by a line that falls

perpendicular to both. Faces that resemble neighboring ones until they become opposites. And I, for today, am V. simply highlighting a pair of them.
