Hello, My name is Vinh Phuc Nguyen, currently a part I graduate from the University of Kent. With passion in urban planning, commercial and domestic housing designs, I am searching for an opportunity to assist and learn from industrial practices. Interest in architecture had grown since my childhood, when I followed my father, who is a civil engineer, to visit the construction site regularly. Observing the process of how a house is built, I felt a strong desire to be capable of making my own architecture. When I came to the Kent School of Architecture and Planning (KSAP) at the University of Kent, my ambition to be an architect was further enhanced by the in-depth teaching and competitive environment. I was able to explore architecture in not only just the context of brick and mortar but also programs, utilities and above all humanity importance.
My university colleagues see me as an enthusiastic team-worker who are willing to help and learn, and also an effective communicator. I enjoy studying new knowledge and perspectives, exploring new design techniques and stepping out of my comfort zone to challenge myself in the architectural design process. With the knowledge gained from Part I Architectural education, I wish to learn more about the real practice in architectural firms and work with those who I always aim to become in the future. New environments mean new inspirations and challenges, which I am looking forward to experiencing in the placement year.

MNCCA MARGATE NATIONAL CENTRE OF CIRCUS ARTS
A
Academic Instituition//2019
re circus arts supposed to be merely about childish fun and entertainment? Does the magic of circus only stay in the bodily movements of the acrobats, the thrill of daredevils and the laughter from the clowns? Or is the enchantment of the circus actually lying much more faintly behind the temporary tents and stages, which takes us a long time of observing and absorbing to finally understand how great this performing act was? . In response to the demand for a new institutional campus for circus arts in Cliftonville, the poetics of the attraction seemed to lack the utilitarian language of the surroundings: there was no context, no origin, and no communication to the community. For a moving circus tent, this alien excitement only lasts for a few days or weeks. For an institution that aims to bring education to new generations, the school of circus needs to transform itself from just mere temporary stages, riggings and seats to become a part of the story, a building with context and a standing ‘person’ in Cliftonville neighbourhood. . A hypothesis, therefore, is created. The institution of circus arts will be no more an immediate product, but a long lasting architectural performance, starting from the origin of a circus to become a new building. Inspired by the ‘cautionary story’ of Brexit, the building will go through hard times to adjust its programme to the needs of the people to finally reach its graceful end as a new educational campus. . Architecture, as a result, is a process.

ard times ∙ In the nowadays United Kingdom, there was a cautionary tale of an unexpected BrexIt. The story started when the Great Britain has decided on a dramatic divorce from the EU family. The poor little Margate was trying to regenerate with the help of tourism, shocked by the news from the State. The World Circus, its only hope, died from a young age in the mist of the Great Depression. But the people of Cliftonville had not given up hope. In the structural skeletons of the remaining circus riggings once again they find a glimpse of light, a renewed circus spirit for new generations. A new fairy tale of a circus arts institution begins, being the new chapter in this life long story.

From the rigging system that support the World Circus, the tale of impressive structures continues in the landscaping of the site. Weather shelters, playground and the pedestrian tub ‘Connector’ reflecting the same language in construction, as if the performers not only inhabit under the roof of MNCCA but also in the setting of the town. FAIRLAND CLIFTONVILLE ART SCHOOL AND FURTHER URBAN PLANNING
T
Academic Instituition//2018
heme parks and fairgounds have been important features in British culture. these not only provide necessary entertainment for times of depressions but also reflects the spirit of possitivitism on the local urban background. therefore, entertaining places can be seen as a subject to study urbanists culture as well as a possible design directive for any other built environment. The art of story telling in themed entertaining grounds is an aspiring topic in how an architect can introduce local context in to the design process. theme park can be explored as a cultural vortex whose swirling forces contribute to the construction of knowledge, even as they open a dynamic territory between dualistic notions of place and space, myth and reality, work and play. ‘City as a theme park’ is the idea of encouraging public engagement through providing appropriate and attractive venues. People in this city does not simply live and work, they play, trade and communicate in places of entertainment. The city then become a themed show, where moving between places become the act of going through different stories of the urbanists.
Art is meaningful through the way of story-telling. By replicating or artistically transform culture norms the artist can tell audience about the meaning behind their art piece. Theme park in the same way using visual cues in ornaments and structures to inform the visitor of a culture votex through the engagement in fun activities.

he fairy tale of Margate is also being written again to emphasize its long-lasting value. At the heart of this regeneration movement is art, which has seen many art institutions and workshops constructed to encourage the local artistic community. The art spirit will be more reinforced with the art school project. Yet, to have such an important feature of the regeneration, an appropriate setting is needed. In this case, a ‘happier’ Cliftonville.

n art school is meant to be an educational institution for art. However, in the F.U.N school of art is a place where fun comes first. The exploration of the school starts from the old Pettman building through the new extension and ends at the workshop on the side of Dalby square. Each space of the school is themed, which reflects occupations, design signposts and mechanism to be seen in a fairground. These design elements aim to encourage ‘theme park’ optimiticism and the curiosity inside the students toward artistic contructional detials and ornaments.

BARBICAN FAVERSHAM COLLECTIVE ACCOMMODATIONS
C
Housing//2018
ollective dwelling may not merely be a housing project to cope with the need of accommodation and economic growth. It includes the life of the habitants, their daily mundane tasks, their chats, their meals, their works and their cultures. The home, therefore, does not come before the people. Collective dwelling then means creating a series of homes, to fulfil people memories, events and wishes. A modern house solution with hi-tech comfort may not be an answer to the culturally-rich Faversham, but a design in which the life of the town is reflected. Observing closely at the context of the town, a softer and more earthly is to be introduced into the old faรงade of Faversham, as if the houses has always been there, ready to be discovered as homes again and again.
