A Place For ALL...

To Work, To Learn, To Share, To Gather, To Celebrate…

INTRODUCTION OF THE TOPIC Mumbai, one of the dream cities in India, is an example of high-density urban scenario, but creating an image of congestion, chaos, pollution, over the past few years. One can see buildings designed to dominate the skyline, large scale infrastructure projects, commercial development, etc. But in all such developments, the city fails to cater to the basic needs and rights of the people, this affects the quality of life of the people. The station precinct creating huge problems for people where commuter have to struggle every time to pass through buses, taxi, auto-rickshaw, hawkers etc.

shows the scenario of station precinct and open space & around.

Availability, distribution and management of open space, are a major concern for Mumbai. Public open space is a necessity for people. Mumbai has about 1.1 sq.m of open space per person, compared to 1O-l2sq.m the minimum requirement laid down by UDPFI. therefore, main aim is to make space their people feel more human and more alive. Creating vibrant space for public where they can interact, learn and share their ideas.

MMRDA plans to tie up with NGOs to provide cycle hub where citizens can park their cycles outside the main exits of every station along Metro-2A and Metro-7 corridors.

As per this study, the cost of improving station areas in a periphery of 500 meters from a metro station and implementing a multi-modal integration will cost about Rs 25 crore per station,” said Dilip Kawathkar, deputy metropolitan commissioner (admin) and MMRDA spokesperson.

With TOD, it can generate funds by giving out more floor space index (FSI) for a premium. RA Rajeev, metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA said, “This way, we are looking at urban renewal and also cross subsidizing the cost to build the Metros.”

TOD STRATEGY FOR MUMBAI Mumbai city is one of the most transit rich cities in India. In the Metropolitan Region, a population of 10 million people makes 28.5 million one-way trips every day ➢ The city is divided into smaller ‘planning sectors’. These sectors cover an area of 2-4 sq. kms. ➢ Envisioned as self-sufficient sectors that meet the need for amenities, housing and employment for the given population. ➢ Urbanization has led to creating problems of urban sprawl and thereby higher usage of private vehicles, problems of pollution and increased demand of infrastructure. ➢ To address these issues, developed rapid transit systems. But, it is important to efficiently use these systems by integrating the land use with the transport infrastructure to make the cities more smartly functioning. ➢ TOD integrates land use and transport planning and aims to develop planned sustainable urban growth centers, having walk able and livable communes with high density mixed land-use. ➢ Citizens have access to open green and public spaces and at the same time transit facilities are efficiently utilized. ➢ TOD focuses on creation of high density mixed land use development in the influence zone of transit stations, i.e. within the walking distance ➢ of (500-800 m) transit station or along the corridor in case the station spacing is about 1km.
