Your brief

The inspiration for embarking on your winemaking journey is as exclusive as your wine, and this same inspiration will form the narrative that will determine the name of your wine and the label design.

So, before we begin, it’s important to think about why you chose to embrace the challenge of bottling your own wine, as doing so will help with the following stages.

Once you’ve had a think, we can have a conversation to get an idea of your direction. When you’re ready to start the creative process, VINIV will pass it on to Barlow & Co and we’re on to part two. But firstly, there are also a few rules that you need to consider, even if your wine is intended for private purposes.

BRAND NAME

French anti-fraud authorities are strict about the use of names that imply a ‘sense of place’ if you are not the owner of that property. As a result, you will not be able to use words such as ‘Château’, ‘Clos’, ‘Domaine’, ‘Mas’, ‘Manoir’ or ‘Cru’ in your brand name. Given the size of the winemaking community and the importance of existing trademarks, you are unable to use names or designs that closely resemble existing commercial brands, such as the use of the name ‘Lynch’ or ‘Bages’.

APPELLATIONS

With the exception of Grand Vin de Bordeaux’, anti-fraud authorities refuse to allow the mention of any of the appellations in which your vineyards are originally located because your wine is a blend of fruit from various appellations. Subsequently, your wine will be classified as AOP (Appellation d’Origine Protégée) Bordeaux.

Before suggesting some design options, design guru’s Barlow & Co. will firstly send you a briefing document with a few questions they have put together to glean as much information from you as they can.

We anticipate that once you begin to think it through, ideas will come thick and fast and it’s inevitable that tweaks will follow.

DESIGN AMENDMENTS AND TIMINGS

Each label design is entitled to 3 rounds of amends, including the following: -> Round 1 amends: concept selection and feedback on the design -> Round 2 amends: final small tweaks to the front label design -> Round 3 amends: back label amends only

Even if you’re completely happy with your design concept, you’ll be encouraged to look at it again with fresh eyes a few days later and, perhaps, make some final tweaks. Remember that you only have four weeks to complete the design process, or we might not be able to accomodate all of your design wishes.

Outside of the 3 rounds of amends detailed above, additional design amends will be billed at an hourly rate of €100/$120. Barlow & Co. will keep you informed if you are approaching these limits.

Incidentally, if you already have a designer, we will send you the specifications for our printer along with regulatory requirements for the design on the label. Please note, you are fully liable for all copyright issues and are responsible for producing legally compliant copy/artwork.

Les Vestiges du Jour is the debut wine by Mike Flockhart, a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc from the 2020 vintage of some of the finest parcels in Bordeaux. Inspired by Katzuo Ishiguro’s stunning novel “The Remains of the Day , Les Vestiges du Jour is a tribute to devotion.

Best enjoyed with close friends while discussing important matters of state or cricket, as (and long after) the sun descends Drink 2032 - 2047.

With every barrel of wine, you have the opportunity to create up to three unique labels. It is an ideal option if you are making your wine as a group and have more than one wine story.

Packaging - included in your barrel price

The price of your barrel includes high-quality bottles, corks and VINIV- branded wooden cases (12 bottles or 6 magnums). Double magnums are packed in individual wooden cases. Cardboard boxes are also available on request.

You have a choice of four different colours of capsule, but we don’t expect you to make this decision until your label is completed.

Double magnums are wax-sealed.

PERSONALISED CORKS & WOODEN CASES **

For a one-time fee per design, you can make your wine cellar unique by printing high-quality wooden cases with your brand logo or design printed on one side.

If you produce wine in subsequent vintages and use the same artwork on your corks and wooden cases, there will be no additional charge.

Most people would agree that large bottle formats allow for better ageing. Our customised packaging option allows you to replace twenty-four 75cl bottles with six Double Magnum (3 litre) bottles.
