Chairmans Chatter for Topical Torque

Hello Folks

On behalf of the Committee, I extend a Happy New Year to all members. Over the next four months there is a lot of activity for our members to enjoy and support. Coming up really quickly now is the 150 years celebration for Inglewood. And the all-important Motor Car Show for Cancer that is being organized in Hawera. You will see details elsewhere in this newsletter of times and venues.

We are asking for as many members as possible to support the events that have been organized and with the Hawera Motor Show it is our chance to now join the August last year fund raising for Cancer that other branches have been successful in doing throughout the provinces.

Our branch acknowledges the passing of the Vintage Car Club NZ foundation Member and Life Member, Andrew Anderson a 70-year continuous club membership holder from Christchurch. Reading some of the early Beaded Wheels magizine shows just how active he was in the early years of the clubs’ formation, and it’s been a privilege to hear him speak at many AGM meetings throughout New Zealand as he has never lost his passion for our movement. I am sure his presence will be missed and the last time that I was speaking to him was at the Vero International Rally held in New Plymouth in 2022. The Branch extends our deepest condolences to all the family.

The 60th Maunga Moana Rally Entry Forms are now available from our Rally Secretary Rob Thomson. This is a celebration of sixty years with everything well in hand. Please get your entry in early as we want a big entry from our branch members.

Here is a note for club room key holders of the club rooms. Please make sure the power is switched off when leaving the premises as someone forgot recently. Shortly we will have an alarm system installed with a code for entry for key holders.

We are now going to collate the membership list from the membership forms that members have filled in, if you still want to be on the list, this is your last chance to be included in the first booklet that will be in the A5 size format.

So, keep the passion .....................Get out and about....... Support our events..... The Motor Show in Hawera for Cancer .........Drive Safely.... and...... keep to the Left.......... Cheers

Chairman Colin

CLUB CAPTAINS REPORT

First of all, many thanks to Brian and Julie Evans for organising the Christmas rally and barbecue in December. Unfortunately, Megan and I were unable to attend due to family commitments but every member I spoke to thoroughly enjoy the event well done.

The numbers of cars at Christmas parades in New Plymouth were down this year but Bell block, Waitara and Inglewood that excellent turnouts. The crowds love seeing our old cars and it's a great way to promote our club. I also heard our club had won an award in Waitara for attending Colin is checking on this.

COMING EVENTS:

Thursday 16th of January - the January club night.

Saturday 25th of January - Inglewood celebrates 150 years. Our branch has been invited to display some vehicles after the parade. Please assemble in Moa St before the parade which starts at 12 o'clock. Please note, not all of our cars will be in the parade as the organising committee has already selected appropriate vehicles to cover each decade of motoring.

Sunday 26th of January - Inglewood charity motor show

Sunday 2nd February - the Daffodil Motor Show to raise money for the Cancer Society at the Showgrounds, Burnside Avenue, Hawera from 10 am to 3 pm.

Bryan Morris and Malcolm Harding and their team of South Taranaki members have been working hard to organise this important fundraising event. We would like as many members as possible from our branch to bring their cars along for the show. Entry fee will be $5 per vehicle.

Thursday, 20th February - the guest speaker at our February club night will be Mike Davey from Ravensdown fertiliser company.
