Chairman’s Report Happy New Year to you all, it’s another start for us, with activities , outings and the major event on our calendar year this year will be the VCC National Executive and Annual General Meeting in August, to be held here in the land of grapes, Blenheim. Our new Years Party was another big success, with David and his helpers preparing and cooking a beautiful fish meal, We started the year off with the traditional run to the Harris’s bach for Christmas cake and a cuppa. Heritage Day at Brayshaw Park is a day for the public to view our wonderful cars, which I hope you all make an effort to attend, our museum and library, also our facilities of which we are very proud of will be on show. The Marlborough for Fun organisers have invited us - members and our vintage cars / motorcycles to a concert in Pollard Park on the 12th Feb at 4:30pm, more details closer to the time. Apologies to members if I have been a bit short of late, but I have a small chip on my shoulder over the hiring out of the new mobile BBQ. I was against hiring it out during the discussions and my current feelings are still the same, BUT, I will learn to live with it. VINTAGE MOTORING, Lyall

View Point’s 2017 I have been thinking about the timing of the View Point and the terrible post system we have which delivers your newsletter late! Should we produce the newsletter earlier each month and have it out to you before the first of the month? For example your March View Point would close for print on the 22nd of February and be in your letterboxes around the 1st March. 4

What do members think? Do you have any ideas on speeding up the delivery? Please talk to your committee members if you think you have a way to resolve this. Late or missed newsletters are not much fun for members. Chris your Editor

Club Captain’s Report The run to the Onamalutu was postponed due to the weather. Instead a really enjoyable afternoon/ evening was held at the Clubrooms. The New Years meal was a huge success, thanks to David and the many willing ladies. Our club is blessed with a bench with more depth than the Allblacks. When two stand aside, ten more pop up! Thanks ladies. Lyall, we haven't seen those promised after dinner mints yet! The short run in January turned out to be a bit longer, with members spread from Ward Beach to Clarence. Coming up Waitangi Day. 6th February. Heritage Day at the park. Try to be there by 10am please. The planned run to Port Underwood is on 12th February, leaving the Clubrooms at 9.30am. We will be travelling through Picton and Waikawa. BBQ supplied. The boat trip to Arapawa Island leaves the Beachcomber office at Picton At 10am, so try to be there by 9.30 am. You will need to bring a $2 coin for parking in car park. The boat is hired for 6 hrs, 1hour each way which will give us approx 4 hrs

on the island. There is a bit of walking when we get there, so you have the option of either walk, or sit and gawk! In a setting like this, even sitting and gawking is pleasant, but don't forget to bring lunch, flask etc. We will be passing the old whaling station, so if anyone wants, we can poke our nose into that bay for a look from the boat. The boat is the new Beachcomber and can hold 150 people so there should be plenty of room for us to spread out. I have been approached by several members lately as to why the Committee did not allow Geoff Corbetts funeral afters to be held at the Clubrooms ,as requested by the family. The fact is, we were as dismayed as you, when we later found out that the request had been made and turned down. Bob O’Malley Club Captain

Watch the magazine for the interesting Sunday monthly runs that our Club Captain (Bob O’Malley) has put together. Nelson Branch Reminder The Nelson Branch are holding

their Swap Meet on the 18 February 2017. Ward Beach The Sunday 22 January run to Ward Beach was enjoyed by all who took part and the rain held off and very little traffic on the road to nowhere. As a bonus Barry Wilson’s grandson had taken a number of photos of points of interest that we all had a copy of and putting names to these was an interesting exercise, thank you Barry. After lunch some took the opportunity to travel further south to check out the quake cracked and slumped road. The Road is currently open as far as the Clarence Bridge. Murray Bown Murray has had a serious maintenance issue and has been to Wellington for head repairs.
