Princess Couture Sessions BY
Princess Couture Sessions I asked a few clients last fall if I could borrow their daughters for their session to ‘model’ these beautiful new dresses I purchased. I wanted to see how the girls enjoyed the dresses and if my ‘ideas’ could come to life. I only used about 10-15 minutes (at most) to do this and was left with way too many options! I did not even put to use the ideas I had to create some magic. Now that I’m offering this to my clients, I CANNOT wait to put my ideas to use!
Princesses and Pixie Dust
Let’s sprinkle a little magic for this photography session! Violet Lace Photography is offering something NEW and different---unlike anything you’ve seen around! A Princess Couture Session is a one-of-a-kind experience to allow your daughter to use her imagination and feel like a princess…or a warrior, while you get to put new memories in her memory bank and keep these heirlooms for yourself, your daughter and future generations! Your little lady can transform into her dream fairy or princess even! Have an idea that you'd like for your little one? Let's create it!
Experience the Magic
These sessions are exclusive and one of a kind, as they require additional artwork and editing after the session. We start by capturing your beautiful little girl in an outdoor setting and then allowing her imagination to take over. I provide the wardrobe and style your little princess. I also provide headpieces as well. You do not need to worry about shopping or making any purchases. This is the first year VLP is offering this to all clients, so new ideas are guaranteed to come about as more sessions are done!
She Will Leave a Little Sparkle Wherever She Goes…
We let her explore and frolic around outdoors just before sunset, allowing her to be her perfect combination of princess and warrior exploring and discovering the amusement of being little.
If your daughter doesn’t like dresses, this may not be the session---unless you’d like me to try to something else creative!

Dresses
I’ve already begun adding dresses to the collection and will continue to add them as more clients participate in this session. Mom and I will decide together on color and styles. If mom would rather me take the realm on styling this session, great!
Shoes
Most dresses are supposed to touch the ground, so shoes usually should not matter. I’m always a fan of barefoot as well.
Hair
I encourage you to go all the way in making your little princess feel pampered by taking her a salon and getting her hair and make up done. Soft, flowing curls is PERFECT for this session. I will add the hair pieces to finish off the look. I’d suggest a later appointment so she can come from the salon or shortly after the session. We don’t want you to spend money on this just for those curls to fall out. If not, I’d suggest asking the stylist to pin the curls up and we will take them down just before the session. While, I’m not a professional, I do have experience with hair. I will help take it down and touch it up.
Make up
This is optional of course. This has to be subtle. It should not be noticeable. A little mascara (if she’s blonde, I’d suggest using brown mascara), blush, powder, and pink gloss will really make your little girl feel like a queen. If you’d like me to help with this, just let me know prior so I bring items along.
Location
This is the only session where time and travel is included in the session. There’s a lot of great locations right in Chilton, so don’t be disappointed if your session is near. To be completely honest, you can have the ugliest backdrop be absolutely beautiful in portraits. I do choose the location, so no worries on that! (If I know what the location you’d like me to photograph at is do-able, I’d be totally open to that as well!)
Session Time
All sessions are done about an hour or two before sunset. This is called the “golden hour”. The sun is at its very best for photography. No squinting, no harsh shadows, and no limiting our little girls on where they can explore to stay out of the direct sun.

Before and After
Unfortunately we don’t have an app to edit our images by the flip of a button. It’s a process that is truly worth the hours when I know the end result will be displayed exactly how they are supposed to in one’s home. We are trying to create art. For you. For your child. Normally I’d never show a before image, but hopefully this gives a general idea on how I process an image and why the colors are so important on why they are printed properly. Let me take you a quick journey of how Calla’s session went. Don’t forget, this was a ‘bonus’ part to Calla’s session. I certainly did not rush this part, but I just wanted to get a general idea of how much time went into this in terms of the actual session and the editing.
The Editing Stuff
The first image I took was at 5:43pm and the last was at 5:55. (I do not focus on the time, I focus on the quality and quantity of the images. Once I feel there’s enough, we move on. Because I was trying this out, I knew I needed more. I was able to get 91 images in between following, directing, swapping hair pieces, moving her seating around, etc… It doesn’t take long for the actual session!
Edits
Each bullet below are each an edit that is done on every image chosen for the final gallery. Each image takes at least 20 minutes. • Softened skin • Lightened skin • Added a peachy hue to skin • Added the sky • Added a custom edit to color correct the images • Added a custom edit to make the image more rich • Added a custom edit to soften the entire image without over doing it • Added a custom edit to increase the clarity without pixelating it. • Touched up all fly away hair and removed her red skin from her arms.

Q & A
Q. SO SHOULD I DO THIS INSTEAD OF A MILESTONE SESSION? Absolutely. You can still do a milestone session though if you’d like. Just book that on a different date and time. This session is going to display your child’s personality though, just in a more artsy way.
Q. DO YOU PICK THE DRESSES? Yes and No. I have already picked a select amount of dresses for my Couture Wardrobe Collection, varying in sizes. (I will be adding to the collection as sessions are booked.) When you book your session, I will ask some questions about your daughter and about colors. Once your session is booked, I will request you to send me a picture of your daughter (taken with your phone in good lighting) with her hair down. I will take this information and start selecting colors and styles. If I feel there’s a better dress and color out there, I’m going to find it! I always allow mom to give me her choices. This session is truly a one-of-a kind experience. The day of the session, I will have at least two options. One may look better than the other or one may fit better than the other.
WHAT IS A PRINT CREDIT? I’m sure I’m not alone here, but when I used to order packages for my children’s school pictures, I’d always have too many images or too little images. It’s a waste, right? When I have the print release, I never order them! A print credit allows you to pay up front when you book the session and allows you to print the images you need through my website with one of the best printing companies in the world. The reason the print credit is so important with this session is because of the fine art editing that it entails. Your images deserve quality. WHY THE PRINT CREDIT? First, let me throw out my thoughts on printing your images. I can IMMEDIATELY tell when a client printed their image from somewhere else. How? Because the image looks awful. The colors are faded, too dark, there’s an orange tint, and/or there’s this little pixels all over! That’s not how it was suppose to be displayed on your wall. I keep the portrait prices SO low. Low enough that I can keep the website running and not be too concerned about storage. As a photographer, I do not want any of my clients to print at Costco, Shutter fly or Walmart…EVER. I really have no choice on some sessions because of competition. Some photographers just don’t care what you do with your images and/or do not want to deal with this part. Blunt? Yes, but it’s honest. Back to the question: the Print Credit requires you to print through the website and allows you to pay up front. DO YOU CHOOSE THE LOCATION? IF SO, WHERE IS IT? Yes, but I’m completely open to hearing your preference. The locations will vary on child. The age for safety, whether they can pose (the older ones usually can take direction), and many other factors. Really though, the lighting is first, the location comes 2nd. Look at the image to the left….we are in front of some apple trees--missing a lot of apples. It’s the editing, the attire/accessories, and the lighting that really makes the image. DO I NEED TO BRING SHOES? You will need to bring shoes, but we will not see shoes with most dresses so you shouldn’t have to go purchase any.
