The studio was intended to design a community housing on the abonded mill property which caters to local people and encourages communication and interaction between people.The design was intended to develop heirarchy of spaces and incorporate the elements and quality of space from local settelments into the design.

RURAL COMMUNITY CENTRE Shilaj,Gujarat

The studio brief was to design a community centre which caters to people of shilaj.The site is a daily route for the people to visit the temple and there is also an adjoining lake to the site.

The studio was focused to blend the design with the exisisting temple and understand the way of life and spaces used by the people on day to day basis and resonate it in the design . The intend was to engage them with different activities in the community centre which provides work and income for the people and also becomes a place for social gatherings and interaction for people of all age groups.

PRIMARY SCHOOL Thaltej,Gujarat The studio breif was to design kindergarten and primary school and was focused on creating an environment which engages and increases oppurtunity for students of different classes to interact and communicate through linked and buffer spaes and to create a pleasent environment for learning.By the use of vaults enough amount of light was delivered to the spaces while also making the space bigger.

INSIDE EARTH CAFETERIA Jaisalmer,Rajasthan The studio breif was to design a combination of spaces, a cafeteria, en exhibition and a performance space.The studio was focused to undestand and explore the potential of stone as a material and respond to the climatic factors of the site through design.Design was inspired by the concept of step well and creating a combination of open-closed spaces to create an experience and journey inside the space such that it enhances visual and physical connection between spaces.

CASE STUDIES

ADANI VIDYA MANDIR Adani Vidhya mandir school is designed by Apurva amin architects.The design consists of several buffers and interconnected spaces to increase interaction and communication between students while also delevering ample amount of diffused light into the spaces.The primary section is designed ,keeping in mind the playfullness of children.The art and craft space in a shape of a leaf ,while curves leading from one place to another inside the space.


TERMITARY HOUSE BY TROPICAL SPACE Intend of this case study was to understand the use of brick as a material and its technical aspects. Double skin walls kept the spaces cooler while double brickjali outside and aluminium sliding panels allowed to control ventialation in the space and also creating a buffer space in between for planters to keep.

The workshop was intended to map different parts of old city and create a data base of different urban aspects of old city,the workshop also consisted of documenting and photography of architectural expressions and culture of old city.

DOCUMENTAION

Bir, Himachal Pradesh A relative study programme which was focused on documentation of the vernacular houses of two villages in bir billing and to understand the materials used in these houses along with it’s construction process.Meanwhile also understanding the culture, lifestyle and occupation of the people living in these mountains.


Shilaj, Ahmedabad Documentation of shilaj is a related exercise with the rural community studio. The intend was to understand typology of buildings and identification of architectural elements, while also collecting data of different communities, cultures,movement and occupation of people.


CAT COLLABRATIVE This workshop was intended to explore different forms and possibilities through different grids formed through paper folding exersices and working on set of curves in softwares achieved through models earlier made.

Rani sipri is a medivial mosque and the intend was to study the ornamentation,jali,patterns and details of the islamic mosque and understand the change in the practice in the mosque according to the pace of time.

San Giorgio Maggiore Church The church was designed by Andrea Palladio and is in classical rennaissance style.The intend was to understand the architectural elements,principles and structural aspects of the sturcture.

This workshop was focused on understanding earth as a sustainable material and to understand construction methods of adobe bricks, CSEB blocks and rammed earth.
