China and the U.S. have been trying to encourage one another to recognize their vaccines as valid and loosen up travel restrictions between them. Still, tensions and cooperation between the two nations are strained.

hina has recently launched a virus passport system through government-affiliated WeChat, suggesting it could be used globally. The system assigns a QR code to an individual, which can then be scanned at checkpoints and used to restrict movement. The virus passport system has raised many practical and ethical concerns due to the unequal availability of vaccines globally. China and the U.S. have been trying to encourage one another to recognize their vaccines as valid and loosen up travel restrictions between them. Still, tensions and cooperation between the two nations are strained. According to Breitbart, China is currently using the Sinovac Biotech vaccine, which is 50.83 percent effective, and the Sinopharm, which is 72.51 percent effective. In contrast, the U.S. uses the Pfizer vaccine, which is 95 percent effective; the Moderna vaccine, which is 94 percent effective; and the Johnson and Johnson, which is 66 percent effective. China has already received heavy criticism for its surveillance system. Its highly controversial social credit system rates people as good or bad. China’s CCP virus vaccine barely passes the minimum efficacy rate.

munist regime, resulting in restricted movement and travel. China has touted its social credit system as “vital for the government to raise the social management level.” They bragged that as of March 2019, “13.49 million individuals have been classified as untrustworthy and rejected access to 20.47 million plane tickets and 5.71 million high-speed train tickets for being dishonest,” claiming that “with a population of 1.4 billion people… huge volumes of data is beyond the understanding of Western countries.” Chinese leader Xi Jinping commends the virus passport QR code WeChat system as exceptional and attempted to promote it to other countries at the G20 summit on Nov. 21. A Global Times article claimed that Chinese technology could develop and initiate a global virus passport system within just 2-3 months. “In terms of technology, I believe that Chinese companies can build an international platform in just one week, but it is better than the WHO, rather than any country or regional organization, be the organizer to ensure the independence, fairness, and data security of the platform,” Xiang Ligang, director-general of the Beijing-based Information Consumption Alliance told the Global Times. China would like to get the World Health Organization (WHO) and the rest of the world on board with the virus passport system, but the WHO has the same apparent ethical concern

that this would cause further oppression to already oppressed people. “China would like to establish a mutual recognition mechanism based on fully accommodating each other’s concerns and friendly consultations, to facilitate cross-border people-to-people exchanges and promote a new order of healthy and safe personnel exchange,” a spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Zhao Lijian said. Israel uses a digital green pass system that gives vaccinated people greater privileges to attend public events or gain access to services. They also consider the Chinese virus passport system that would record vaccination status and test results. However, Israel’s vulnerability to hacking has surfaced with the CCP virus passport system. Israel leads the way for vaccine rollouts, with 55 percent of Israelis being given one dose, and 41 percent have received their second dose. The green pass system they are using has helped many businesses reopen. Bahrain has already introduced a vaccine passport, and the U.S. and United Kingdom are considering it as well. Denmark and Sweden are looking into launching health passports, while France and Germany have been resistant to the idea, according to France24. French President Emmanuel Macron has suggested a local permission slip program called a “health pass,” which would allow people greater access to public events and businesses.

China has already received heavy criticism for its surveillance system. Its highly controversial social credit system rates people as good or bad. It bases its ratings on minor offenses such as littering or disapproval of the Communist regime, resulting in restricted movement and travel.

emocrats and Republicans in Congress are criticizing President Biden’s immigration policies and response to mass illegal immigration at the southern border. In an interview with ABC, Senate Majority Leader Democrat Chuck Schumer said that the White House would have to do a better job regarding immigration. However, he deflected the blame onto the former president, saying that Biden inherited a huge mess from the Trump administration. Schumer accused Trump’s immigration policies of being horrible to the migrants; Biden’s officials, in contrast, are “rolling up their sleeves” to resolve the immigration problem. “One of the problems with the Trump administration is that they had so much incompetence… I think it will get better in the next few months. If it doesn’t, I will go to them and say, ‘You got to do better’… And if they don’t, I will be public. But I got to give them a little bit of a chance because they inherited a big, big mess created by Donald Trump, whose views on immigrants just turned me off,” Schumer said in the interview. Despite Schumer’s critique of the previous administration, in the first month of Biden’s presidency, illegal border crossings surged by 28 percent. Biden has relaxed immigration rules, and his administration appears much more welcoming to undocumented immigrants. Biden’s lax policies have potentially motivated large numbers of people south of the border to march north into the U.S.

Biden rescinds Trump’s immigration policies

Biden has also rescinded most of Trump’s restrictive immigration policies. That includes placing a 100day pause on deportations, blocking the border wall construction, and strengthening the protections given to illegal immigrants under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Biden’s most ambitious plan is the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021. It aims to provide an eight-year citizenship path for 11 million undocumented immigrants. However, this has been met with serious resistance from Republicans and even Democrats.

Capitol: Defense Secretary Approves National Guard Troop Extension ing requirements. National Guard Bureau Chief Dan Hokanson had disapproved of keeping troop members beyond the scheduled exit date, arguing that they already lacked in numbers due to wildfires, civil disturbances, and the pandemic. However, his concern was overruled by Austin. “Efforts to date have not secured enough volunteers among supporting states to meet the USCP request of 2,280 soldiers, nor Option B of 1000 soldiers… I am concerned that the continued indefinite nature of this requirement may also impede our ability to man future missions as both adjutants general and guardsmen alike may be skeptical

U

.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has approved a request by U.S. Capitol Police to maintain around 2,300 National Guard troops until May 23. At present, there are 5,100 guards stationed at the Capitol. The National Guard troops were only scheduled to remain until March 12. One senior defense official told CNN that the continued deployment was not due to any specific threat but an awareness of a persistently elevated threat level at the Capitol. Plus, the Capitol Police needed extra time to fill their staff-

about committing to future endeavors,” according to a memo by Hokanson. Pentagon press secretary John Kirby said that the Defense Department would fund the National Guard’s mission until May 23. He stressed that the Capitol Police has a legitimate need, so they wanted the National Guard ready on location. Hokanson’s memo had suggested using civilian law enforcement for the Capitol’s needs. Only 500 members of the National Guard have volunteered to extend their deployment. The Pentagon will be asking state governors to volunteer complete units to service rather than individuals. The department is also con-

sidering issuing involuntary activation orders to ensure that the Capitol troops remain in place. Meanwhile, two members from the House Armed Services Committee, Democrat Adam Smith and Republican Mike Rogers, have issued a joint statement asking for a troop reduction at the Capitol. They warned that the extension would add to the financial burden and negatively affect the “overall readiness” of the National Guard. Though they acknowledged the need to maintain a few troops to provide support, the two lawmakers affirmed that the present high state of security is not at all warranted. “We are deeply troubled

by the current level of security around the United States Capitol… More than two months after the January 6 attack, the seat of our nation’s democracy remains heavily protected by guardsmen and surrounded by a perimeter fence…” “We appreciate our guardsmen answering the call to protect the Capitol, but it’s time for us to review what level of security is required, so they can return home to their families and communities,” the two members said in a statement.

Extremism in the military

Last month, Austin also ordered U.S. military leaders to talk to their troops

about extremism in the units. The instruction came after it had been revealed that some current and former military members had taken part in the January 6 riots. Kirby said that even though extremism has been a problem in the military, the Capitol attack was a “wakeup call.” However, Kirby admitted that there is a considerable challenge in defining extremism. Members of the military are allowed to hold whatever political beliefs they choose. But they are held to a far higher standard than the common public. Authorities will be developing training materials on the issue and sending them to the troops to discuss the matter.

Belated Washington Post Correction on Trump Georgia Story Highlights Slipping Integrity in Media because of the sensitivity of the conversation.” The cat was let out of the bag on March 11, when the Wall Street Journal revealed the Post’s source had gravely mischaracterized Trump’s words. The full audio released of the call between Trump and Watson reveals that what Trump actually said was that Watson would be “praised” when “the right answer comes out,” as the president insisted “something bad happened” with the election in the state. Donald Trump was the first Republican to lose a presidential election in Georgia since 1992, with Joe Biden winning by a slim margin of slightly less than 12,000 votes. The state became a main focus of attention for Trump’s allegations that several key swing states, including Georgia, were lost because of election fraud. “If you can get to [Fulton County, Georgia], you’re going to find things that are going to be unbelievable… the dishonesty,” said Trump. Watson said in response, “I can assure you that our team and the [Georgia Bureau of Investigation], that we are only interested in the truth

riticism of establishment media’s journalistic integrity is mounting after a Washington Post correction was issued for a story that the publication ran in early January, based on anonymous sources, about a call former President Donald Trump made to the Chief Investigator of Georgia’s Secretary of State’s office, Frances Watson on Dec. 23, 2020. The story was published on Jan. 9, 2021, just 3 days after the Capitol riots and just 11 days before Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’s inauguration, tagged as a “WP Exclusive” and entitled “‘Find the Fraud’: Trump Pressured a Georgia Elections Investigator in a Separate Call Legal Experts Say Could Amount to Obstruction.” The Post opened the story hotly, “President Trump urged Georgia’s lead elections investigator to ‘find the fraud’ in a lengthy December phone call, saying the official would be a ‘national hero,’ according to an individual familiar with the call who spoke on the condition of anonymity

and finding the information that is based on the facts,” adding she was honored the President had taken the time to call her. Trump said during his conversation that he made the call at the suggestion of Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, “Mark asked me to do it. He thinks you’re great. You have the most important job in the country right now,” the president said. In the original article, the Post said Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger had personally confirmed “Trump had placed the Dec. 23 call. [Raffensperger] said he was not familiar with the specifics of what the president said in the conversation with his chief investigator, but said it was inappropriate for Trump to have tried to intervene in the case.” The Washington Post’s correction said, “The recording revealed that The Post misquoted Trump’s comments on the call, based on information provided by a source. Trump did not tell the investigator to ‘find the fraud’ or say she would be ‘a national hero’ if she did so. Instead, Trump urged the investigator to scrutinize ballots in

Fulton County, Ga., asserting she would find ‘dishonesty’ there. He also told her that she had ‘the most important job in the country right now.’” According to a CNN article, Raffensperger’s office “originally told CNN that they did not think audio of the call existed” but located it in a trash folder on Watson’s phone after handling a public records request. CNN issued their own correction to an article they published on the story entitled “Trump Pressured Georgia Elections Investigator to Search for Dishonesty in the 2020 Ballots,” which said, “An earlier version of this story, published January 9, presented paraphrasing of the President’s comments to the Georgia elections investigator as direct quotes. The story has been updated following the discovery of an audio recording of the call.” In an interview with Atlanta’s WSB-TV2 on March 11, Watson said Trump’s call was “Something that is not expected, and as I mentioned in the call, I was shocked that he would take the time to do that.” Watson also said she did not perceive Trump’s call

VISION TIMES

as pressuring her to take any specific action. The original Washington Post article said, “The Post is withholding the name of the investigator, who did not respond to repeated requests for comment, because of the risk of threats and harassment directed at election officials.”

Washington Post correction not alone

Becket Adams, a writer for the Washington Examiner, said the real issue isn’t so much the Post’s faux pas of journalistic standards, but that multiple other mainstream media outlets claimed to have independently verified the anonymous source’s comments at the time the articles were run: “It’s one thing if a single news outlet publishes a fraudulent anonymously sourced ‘scoop,’” he said. But “it’s another thing entirely if multiple newsrooms claim to have independently ‘confirmed’ the fraudulent ‘scoop’ with anonymous sources of their own.” “It’s unrealistic so many sources would be wrong about the same thing. It’s more likely competing news

outlets spoke with the same anonymous individual or individuals, which leads to uncomfortable questions about whether the media were merely fed bad information or were intentionally manipulated,” said Adams. Adams noted that NBC News, USA Today, ABC News, PBS NewsHour, and CNN had all claimed that they had personally confirmed the story, “The sources either were terribly mistaken or lying,” he said. “This is exactly what we warned about during the Trump years when the press dropped all hesitation and standards regarding the usage of anonymous sources. We warned it would lead to the publication of dubious or flat-out false allegations that are all but impossible to verify. We warned competing newsrooms would feel inclined to ‘confirm’ the anonymously made allegations anyway with their own nameless sources.” “We warned if even one widely ‘confirmed’ report based on anonymous sources turned to be false, it would lead only to the further erosion of trust in the news industry,” said Adams.

ccording to Wall Street behemoth JPMorgan, the fairytale spun by pundits about Reddit’s WallStreetBets organizing to “squeeze” badly positioned hedge fund short sellers of video game retailer Gamestop (NYSE: GME) in what has been affectionately dubbed the “Gamestop Rebellion” is simply false. Peng Cheng, the JPMorgan quantitative and derivatives strategy analyst, wrote to clients in a note: “Although retail buying was portrayed as the main driver of the extreme price rally experienced by some stocks, the actual picture may be much more nuanced,” according to CNBC.

FTSE Russell to Drop Chinese Tech Firms From Index By Arvind Datta Vision Times

I

ndex publisher FTSE Russell has announced that it will drop two Chinese tech companies, Xiaomi and Luokung Technology Corporation, from its global and Chinese indexes to comply with an executive order issued by former President Donald Trump. In January, the Trump administration had placed nine companies, including Xiaomi, on a blacklist of Chinese firms with ties to the Chinese military. The blacklisting blocks American investors from holding any shares in these firms. Xiaomi will be removed from FTSE Global All Cap and FTSE China A Inclusion Indexes. Luokung Tech-

nology Corporation will be removed from FTSE Global Total Cap and Micro Cap Indexes. Also, FTSE will be taking action against Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment Inc. (AMEC) by not proceeding with its planned addition to the FTSE GEIS and associated indexes scheduled for this month. The updates took effect on March 12. FTSE stated that it is aware that Xiaomi and Luokung are fighting their blacklisting in U.S. courts. “In the absence of a conclusion to these cases ahead of the publication of this notice, FTSE Russell has determined that the effective date for the deletion of these names should proceed as previously communicated. Should the United States courts decide in favor of Xiaomi Corporation or Luokung Technology Cor-

FTSE Russell will be dropping Xiaomi and Luokung from its indexes to comply with a Trump executive order.

poration, FTSE Russell will make a further announcement,” the index said in a statement.

Luokung has filed a Motion for Temporary Restraining order (TRO) at a District of Columbia court, according to a company announcement on March 5. Luokung offers spatial-temporal big data processing technology used in industries like autonomous vehicles. The trial for Xiaomi’s lawsuit has already started; the judge has promised a decision this week. When Xiaomi was put on the blacklist, the Trump administration had never given an actual explanation for it. A document obtained by The Wall Street Journal states that the decision was made because CEO Lei Jun received an award from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in 2019. Another reason mentioned in the document is its investments in advanced

technologies like artificial intelligence and 5G.

Removing Chinese firms from stock exchanges

Republican lawmakers have introduced a bill to block “malign Chinese companies” from getting listed in American stock exchanges and other capital markets. According to the proposal, Chinese companies, their subsidiaries, and other affiliates on the entity list of the Commerce Department or the Pentagon blacklist would be denied access to American capital markets. That includes not being listed in indexes. The bill seems to expand the Trump ban on American investments in companies on the Pentagon list. Republican Senator Marco Rubio, who is

the lead sponsor of the bill in the Senate, stated that the legislation aims to send a message to the Chinese Communist Party that they won’t be allowed to exploit America’s financial system. Republican Senator Ben Sasse, co-sponsor of the bill, said that Washington should not allow communist China to continue its atrocities. “This is pretty simple: Communists who help keep Chairman Xi’s dictatorship running — operating his surveillance state, managing his torture camps, or building his next-generation weapons systems — shouldn’t be able to access American capital… We can’t let Beijing’s vast network of governmentcontrolled puppet companies leverage American capital against American interests,” Sasse said in a statement.

Supreme Court Supports First Amendment Rights of College Students By Jonathan Walker Vision Times

T

he U.S. Supreme Court ruled 8-1 to protect the First Amendment rights of two Christian students who sued their college over restricting free speech. The two students were from Georgia Gwinnett College; the incident occurred in 2016. One of the students, Chike Uzuegbunam, was sharing the Gospel on campus when the campus police stopped him. They warned that he could only speak at one of the two “speech zones” in the college. These speech zones were restrictive and only opened for a few hours per week. Anyone interested would have to make a reservation in advance to claim a spot.

After Uzuegbunam gained the necessary permit and started speaking about Christianity, he was stopped again by the campus police. This time they said his speech made many students uncomfortable and attracted complaints. The officers threatened Uzuegbunam with disciplinary action if he continued. Fearful of the consequences, Uzuegbunam kept quiet. When another student, Joseph Bradford, saw what happened to Uzuegbunam; he also decided against speaking about his religion. Together, they sued the college for violating their First Amendment rights. The college had initially tried to defend their policy, stating that Uzuegbunam’s speech on religion “rose to the level of fighting words.”

The Supreme Court’s judgment

WASHINGTON - MARCH 13: U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas testifies before the House Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee on Capitol Hill March 13, 2008 in Washington, DC. However, the college soon dropped its argument and removed its restrictive policies. The lower courts rejected their case as controversial until it arrived at the Supreme Court, which ruled in favor of the two Christian students. “For purposes of this appeal, it is undisputed that Uzuegbunam experienced a completed violation of his constitutional rights when respondents enforced their speech policies against him… Because ‘every violation [of a right] imports damage,’ … nominal damages can redress Uzuegbunam’s injury even if he cannot or chooses not to quantify that harm in economic terms,” Justice Clarence Thomas, a conservative, wrote in the

majority opinion. Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), the conservative legal group representing the students, welcomed the court judgment that “weighed in on the side of justice.” Kristen Waggoner, a general counsel with ADF, stated that officials in public institutions should not get a free pass when they violate constitutional rights on campus or anywhere else. When officials do not face rightful consequences for their actions, it not only leaves the victims without proper recourse but also undermines America’s commitment to protecting constitutional rights. “We believe this is a significant victory because we see time and time again where government officials will censor speech unconstitutionally, students will muster

Some believe that Biden is moving too quickly to overhaul immigration. Trump has blasted Biden’s immigration policies, accusing him of triggering a “spiraling tsunami” at the southern border that is overwhelming communities and taking away jobs from

American workers. The former president claimed that the country had achieved the most secure border in American history under his governance, and Biden is shattering that border security.

the courage to stand and say, ‘This is a violation of my constitutional rights,’ and then college officials will quickly change the policy and walk away…” “The irony, in this case, is that the Georgia officials received a letter years’ earlier from ADF warning them that their policy was unconstitutional, and they did nothing until Chike sued them, and that is consistent with what we see across the country,” Waggoner told reporters. The Supreme Court decision will make other universities reconsider enforcing unconstitutional free speech restrictions on campus. The near unanimity in the decision from the nine judges who profess varying ideologies might also benefit the court’s future interpretations of constitutional rights.

Democrat Representative Henry Cuellar also criticized Washington for its handling of the border crisis. “Any president should come down [and] really spend time with border communities. You know, the president sent a delegation and a bunch of folks from the White House. They didn’t talk to anybody, not even members of Congress down here,” he told Fox News. 212-730-6963

Skies Darken as China’s Worst Sandstorm in a Decade Chokes Beijing By David Clapp Vision Times

C

hina’s capital city woke up to dust-choked skies on March 15 as it experienced what its weather bureau has called the worst sandstorm in a decade. The thick dust shrouded Beijing’s iconic landmarks, including the Forbidden City, and downtown skyscrapers at times disappeared from view, enveloped by clouds of sand. Traffic was snarled throughout the city and more than 400 flights out of the capital’s two main airports were canceled as visibility in the capital was reduced to less than 1,000 meters. China’s National Meteorological Center issued a yellow alert on the morning of March 15, saying blowing

sand and dust coming from the Gobi Desert in neighboring Mongolia would affect 12 provinces and regions across the north, from Xinjiang in the far northwest to Heilongjiang in the northeast and Beijing. “This is the most intense sandstorm in China in the past 10 years, and the area affected by the sandstorm is also the most extensive in the past decade,” the center said in a memo on its website. The Beijing Meteorological Observatory warned that city residents should wear masks, gauze, or other dust-proof products when going out and wash their faces when they return home. The elderly, children, and people suffering from respiratory conditions were also warned to stay inside as the storm caused an unprecedented spike in air

pollution measurements. Beijing’s air quality index, which last year averaged around 80, saw readings at 999 on March 15. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency considers 100 or less on the index to be acceptable and its highest health warning level is pegged at 301 or higher. Such storms used to occur regularly in the springtime due to Beijing’s proximity to the massive Gobi Desert, as well as deforestation and soil erosion throughout northern China. Reforestation efforts have been ongoing over the past several decades in an attempt to halt the desertification of the region and to limit how much sand is blown into the capital. Beijing has planted a so-called “great green wall” of trees to trap incoming dust and has also tried to create air corridors that chan-

nel the wind and allow sand and other pollutants to pass through more quickly. However, dust was churned up by a snow squall that moved through Mongolia over the weekend. The storm toppled electrical towers, knocking out power in

several regions, and killed at least nine people. China has also been suffering from relatively high levels of pollution in recent weeks, as a sharp rebound in China’s energy use and emissions output reflected a ‘dirty recovery‘ as Beijing targeted

the dirtiest and most energyintensive sectors — construction, heavy manufacturing — to offset weakness elsewhere. The perfect storm of northern winds and high levels of pollution combined to create the dangerous pall over the capital city.

47 Arrested for Involvement in Hong Kong Legislative Council Primary Election By Max Lu Vision Times

T

he 600,000 people who took part in the informal Hong Kong Legislative Council primary polls organized by pro-democratic parties in July 2020 have been met with vicious retaliation by the Hong Kong government. The government charged 47 pro-democracy activists who set up the primaries with conspiracy to subvert state power under its National Security Law. After a four-day and three-night grueling trial, the government continued to detain all of them. Suffering along with the 47 political prisoners were families, friends, and supporters of the democratic movement in Hong Kong, who waited outside the court. Facing a Communist-backed coup d’état and deprived of Hong Kong people’s freedom, they 212-730-6963

have to wipe away their tears and look for hope in the darkness and despair. On March 4, when the four-day trial was near its end, 15 of the defendants were granted bail by Chief Magistrate So Wai-tak, a judge appointed under the National Security Law. But the Hong Kong government’s Department of Justice immediately filed a review, keeping all 47 defendants in custody that same day when they were supposed to reunite with their families. When the glimpse of hope of reunion disappeared, Elsa, the adopted mother of the accused social worker Lui Chi-hang, was overcome with emotion. She ran out of the courtroom, crying and screaming with grief to the reporters: “None of them can be released… the rule of law is dead,” and then fell to her knees and wept as others comforted her. The families and close

friends of the 47 political prisoners endured four days of trial, and no one could imagine the pain they went through. Despite the suffering and the long days, they wiped away their tears and continued to speak out against tyranny on behalf

of their loved ones. Hong Kong’s media compiled some of the words spoken by family members, relatives, and friends in interviews outside the courtroom. Elsa, Lui Chi-hang’s adopted mother, said: “I want to tell the Communist Party that what you have done is wrong! When the people who framed the innocent Hong Kong people reach hell, you will be burned alive. When God returns, he will make the judgment. If you don’t repent and confess your sins, you will be punished.” “What these 47 people did is for the good of Hong Kong. This Communist government has ruined and corrupted Hong Kong, and we will not let it get away with it. We will continue to persevere and do what is right. We, the people, will uphold God’s compassion and righteousness. And they, the evil force, will surely get their retribution.” Elsa encouraged her

My husband and I have taught him well, and he grew up to be a good man — loving and righteous, and I am proud of him. “The reason why we dislike mainland China (the CCP government) and their followers so much is because the system in mainland China is inferior and exposes the dark side of people. We have a sound system in Hong Kong, which draws out people’s goodness, and we want to maintain this. We all know that there are good people in mainland China, and they are genuine. But that is not enough, and we must carry on the democratic system

in Hong Kong and pass it down.” The Civil Human Rights Front’s current convenor, Chan Ho-hwan, said: “This government has simply lost humanity. Over the past few days, the trial has tormented the activists, their families, friends, and Hong Kong people. But we call on everyone not to give up the fight for democracy and freedom. As the defendants left the courtroom, they shouted, ‘Hong Kong people, hang in there, keep going,’ and I hope we can all do the same. “From the arrest of prodemocracy leaders under the National Security Law to the change of the electoral system today, this is a coup d’état, a subversion of the people’s choice. “In the past few days, through the newspapers, the defendants are encouraged by people lining up in the early morning to show their support and solidarity.” ny@visiontimes.com

‘ Chinese Spy Cameras ’ By Neil Campbell Vision Times

P

akistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan made gains in his control over the Pakistan Senate after a candidate backed by his Party was elected as Chairman in a vote rife with controversy, strengthening Khan’s control over the country’s legislature. Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Party backed Sadiq Sanjrani of the Balochistan Awami Party in the election. Sanjrani defeated opposition candidate Yusuf Raza Gilani by a vote of 48-42 in the 100 seat Senate. However, seven votes for Gilani and one joint vote for Sanjrani and Gilani were nullified after being “improperly stamped.” An uproar was filmed in the Senate Chambers as voting members discovered “Chinese spy cameras” in the voting booth where a secret ballot to determine the Senate Chairman and Deputy Chairman was held. Pakistan Senate member Muzaffar Hussain Shah supervised the vote and declared the eight deciding ballots invalid. Shah confirmed the presence of cameras in the booth, ordered a probe, and removed the devices, according to an ABC report. According to WION News, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry, in an attempt to debunk the claims, posted on twitter “one example of Spy Camera,” a picture of a camera small enough to fit into the crevasses of a screw head, adding that “detection of such cameras is impossible.” His defense was the cameras found in the Pakistan Senate were not spy cameras, but closed circuit television cameras placed in the voting booth where Senators would cast their votes. A report by Dawn, said election officials had instructed that the stamp Senators used to select their choice on the ballot would be considered valid so long as it was placed inside the checkbox on the voting card. However, on Pakistani social media it was said in unconfirmed reports that the seven disqualified voters were instructed to put an additional stamp “on the name of Mr Gilani as a mark of confirmation that they had voted for him as the party was doubtful about their

commitment,” and “five of these senators had been asked to put the stamp at five different places i.e. on the words ‘Senator,’ ‘Syed,’ ‘Yousuf,’ ‘Raza,’ and ‘Gilani’ whereas the two others had been asked to put the stamp on two parts of Mr Gilani’s name.” It appears from reports available in the English language that the spy cameras found in the Pakistan Senate were merely a Chinese-brand of spy cameras, with no claims that the cameras were placed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) or its agents. However, concerns still surround the security and integrity

of the election, since these Chinese cameras were found present in what was supposed to be a secret ballot of elected officials. Last week, a Switzerland based hacktivist group accessed surveillance firm Verkdata and gained access to the footage of more than 150,000 cameras stationed at Tesla, Cloudflare and inside U.S. federal prisons, hospitals, and health clinics. The group released footage to the public, such as a Verkdata employee who installed one of his company’s cameras inside his home completing a puzzle with his family.

According to International The News, Sanjrani hosted a dinner with outgoing Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing in 2019, calling his country’s close relations with the CCP “historic and exemplary,” while adding “all political forces are united in their relations with China.” Sanjrani specifically praised Chinese President Xi Jinping and the CCP’s hegemonic globalist project, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), during the event, saying Pakistan “seeks to promote peace, development and prosperity in the region through cooperation and partnership. The BRI reflects Chinese President Xi Jinping’s vision for regional integration.” The BRI project between China and Pakistan is referred to as the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which Sanjrani praised during a December 2020 teleconference with Kyrgyzstan, dubbed “Reimagining the Silk Road: Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan in the Age of Connectivity.” Sanjani claimed that more than 3,000,000 citizens would benefit from the installation of the CCP’s globalist bid. A report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies titled

These countries will all face rising debt-to-GDP ratios beyond 50 percent, with at least 40 percent of external debt owed to China once BRI lending is complete. These countries will need support to service BRI loans as repayments peak and will likely turn to the IMF and other smaller lenders. Discussions for an IMF bailout have already begun in Pakistan, where China has invested $62 billion, or one-fifth of Pakistan’s GDP, in infrastructure and energy projects .

In 2019, state-run China Construction completed a 244 mile highway from Punjab to Sindh Province as part of the CPEC. Of the CPEC itself, Foreign Policy said in a 2019 article, “Since it launched in 2015, the project’s total cost has increased from about $45 billion to $62 billion, with Pakistanis expecting new roads and railways, industrial zones, and local jobs.” “While there has been an increase in infrastructure jobs for Pakistani workers, most of the top-level technical jobs have gone to Chinese workers, with an estimated 10,000 Chinese working in Pakistan.” In Myanmar, ousted leader of the National League for Democracy Aung San Suu Kyi signed 33 BRI agreements with the CCP in January of 2020. Her contracts sought to install a similarly-named “China-Myanmar Economic Corridor,” granting China a railroad from the eastern border of Burma to the Bay of Bengal where a deep sea port for China would be installed, and a “New Yangon City” industrial and commercial area developed by CCP state-run construction companies in the nation’s most populous city, Yangon.

EU Data Overhaul: A Mixed Bag of

Concerns for US Tech Giants By Michael Segarty Vision Times

T

he European Union’s plan to regulate data management is the latest blow for U.S. tech giants. The data localization initiative means that companies collecting critical data must store and process them within the borders of the EU. This will significantly increase the infrastructural costs of the U.S.-based companies operating within the EU. Local data spaces that store and access “protected” information are to be created with the current move by the European Union (EU). Currently, multinational companies store and process data in countries based on their own convenience and for their own reasons, mostly at ny@visiontimes.com

their headquarters. The EU Internal Market Commissioner, Thierry Breton, and the bloc’s Executive Vice President, Margrethe Vestager, outlined the plan to control Google, Facebook, and other American companies relying on Europe’s data market. As the primary step toward this, the EU Digital Governance Act is to be implemented soon. Other legislative enactments like the Digital Services Act (DSA) and a Digital Market Act (DMA) are in the pipeline. The fast, and rather, uncontrolled growth of American tech giants like Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, and Microsoft make it difficult for the governments to monitor them effectively. Meanwhile, this move is expected to benefit many small and middlesized companies as they will

be free from “unfair behavior” of the Internet giants, who provide data to them.

Rising concerns about data abuse in the EU

According to the EU Data Protection Regulation, personal data “is any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person.” Common data that tech companies store includes names, addresses, emails, telephone numbers, bank and credit card details, health information, etc. From a risk perspective, there are endless examples of data abuse in the world of big data. Cases of misuse by third parties extend from simple online phishing scams to serious identity theft cases. According to the RSA Data Privacy & Security Survey report, 80 percent of consumers from France, Ger-

many, Italy, the UK, and the U.S. have concerns regarding the loss of their banking and financial data. Lost security and personal identity information is also a major concern among 76 percent of the people surveyed. Earlier, these concerns led to the formation of laws like the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to protect personal data and the privacy of EU citizens. It was adopted back in 2016 for transactions that occur within EU member states and has strict provisions to deal with non-compliance cases. The new EU legislation addresses further concerns in data storage in areas like environment, agriculture and administrative data.

vides data privacy and data sovereignty from foreign surveillance and fraudulent practices. Its benefits are far more reaching than security, and also covers combating climate change, developing precision farming and delivering more reliable administration. This will lead to an economic boost and innovation by the creation of local infrastructure, employment and contributions to the business ecosystem of the EU. The European Commission estimates that these planned

measures could increase the annual economic value of Europe’s data sharing from €7 billion (US$8.3 billion) to about €11 billion (US$13.32) by 2028. According to the tech companies, this “forced data sharing” will limit foreign trade and investment in developing countries, as the freedom of operations (for investors) is curbed. Also, maintaining multiple local data centers will lead to increased infrastructural costs, which is why the tech giants oppose the new move. 212-730-6963

“A

merica is not prepared to defend or compete in the AI [artificial intelligence] era,” according to a 750page report published on March 1 by the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence (NSCAI). The NSCAI is a bipartisan group that includes 15 technologists, national security professionals, business executives, and academic leaders. The report emphasizes China’s exploiting artificial intelligence, “We take seriously China’s ambition to surpass the United States as the world’s AI leader within a decade.” China’s New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan of July 2017 designated AI as a key priority across all levels of government and stakeholders. Five open innovation platforms were launched to advance development of AI, catalyzed by entities such as Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent, iFlytek, and Sensetime. Many applications of AI can be perceived as beneficial, such as driving, smart cities, medicine, smart voice, and intelligent perception. However, China’s AI has entered the realm of questionable ethics, including AI-led warfare systems,

state-of-the-art surveillance technologies, and targeted disinformation campaigns.

‘Intelligentized’ war

By learning from and targeting the U.S. military, Chinese leader Xi Jinping hopes to make the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) a world-class military by mid-century. The NSCAI expresses concern that authoritarian states will create novel AI-enabled military systems without applying the same stringent testing protocols and ethical guidelines that the U.S. military follows. The CCP is seeking out new mechanisms for victory, including explo-

ration of human-machine coordination and confrontation. Rather than emphasizing safety and human supervision, this “new ‘system of systems’ consists of not only intelligent weapons but also a new military system of systems that involves human-machine integration and with (artificial) intelligence in a ‘leading’ or dominant position.” The National University of Defense Technology (NUDT) is seen as a cornerstone of PLA scientific research and advancement, and has partnered with the Academy of Intelligent Sciences to research “intelligent robotics, including bionic robotics and autonomous control, such as swarm intelli-

gence.” Also, war-gaming designed around real-world scenarios has been explored by PLA’s National Defense University as a research and teaching tool.

Exploiting artificial intelligence is military dominance

The Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G are likely to be featured in intelligentized weaponry due to the connectivity that allows for “improvements in data sharing, new mechanisms for command and control, and enhanced systems to fulfill future operational requirements.” Furthermore, 5G will likely “allow for machine-to-machine communication among sensors, drones, or even swarms on the battlefield, as well as improvements in humanmachine interaction.” Another key element is data, which PLA scholar Zuo Dengyun describes as the “blood” of naval operations. The PLA strives to “obtain massive amounts of information through data deposits, grasp the weaknesses of enemy systems through data mining, share the operational situation through data presentation, and open up multidomain joint channels, activating the ‘sense’ of ‘smart’ network empowerment.” In the future, wars could become a “game of algorithms.”

VISION

POINTS Violating human rights

Authoritarian regimes such as the CCP have long been known to use surveillance as a means of influence and control, with AI-powered technologies such as face recognition, biometrics, predictive analytics, and data fusion. According to a PBS FRONTLINE documentary called “In the Age of AI,” the Chinese regime has detained up to one million Uighur Muslims and has made Xinjiang a “test project for forms of extreme digital surveillance.” The AI system is supposedly able to predict which individuals are most likely commit acts of “terrorism” and need to be “reeducated” at camps. Sophie Richardson, the China director at Human Rights Watch, told FRONTLINE, “The kinds of behavior that’s now being monitored — you know, which language do you speak at home, whether you’re talking to your relatives in other countries, how often you pray — that information is now being Hoovered up and used to decide whether people should be subjected to political reeducation in these camps.” The technology is already installed throughout China, complemented by rural surveillance programs such as the Sharp Eyes Project, which monitors the homes of citizens and shames dissidents publicly by announcing their names and addresses over a loudspeaker. To further persecute the Uighur population, activist lawyer Nury Turkel told FRONTLINE, that they even “have barcodes in somebody’s home doors to identify what kind of citizen that he is.” Turkel warned that novel technologies were continually being developed to discourage rebel activity. Chinese companies such as Huawei, Hikvision, Dahua, and ZTE have sold AI surveillance technology to 63 countries, 36 of which are involved with China’s Belt and Road Initiative. Huawei is the most prolific supplier, accounting for sales to at least 50 countries. To encourage less wealthy nations including Kenya, Laos, Mongolia, Uganda, and Uzbekistan to purchase their technology, China offers soft loans to subsidize the purchases. Malign information campaigns While an individual may not be bothered by ten hateful social media messages, an onslaught of threatening messages from thousands of AI-driven accounts that are indiscernible from real users would be enough to disturb almost anyone. In the same vein, AIs are sophisticated learning systems capable of disseminating one powerful propaganda message in the form of a million individualized messages to users, taking into account the targets’ digital footprints, emotions, and social connections. China allegedly used AI-powered malign information in an effort to influence the 2020 Taiwan elections. The IP addresses of multiple posts spreading false information

to discredit Taiwan’s government were traced back to China. The objective of China’s disinformation campaigns is to “shift Taiwan’s public opinion to adopt a pro-unification stance.” The U.S. was also impacted in 2019, when NBA sports executive Daryl Morey tweeted in support of Hong Kong protestors. He received backlash from LeBron James and a pro-China army composed of angry netizens and autonomous bot accounts, which mentioned his name more than 16,000 times within the first 12 hours after his tweet. The rise of AI-generated Deep Fakes are also concerning, with such polished technology that videos of celebrities

and political leaders routinely fool viewers. Videos published by Tiktok’s “DeepTomCruise” account and a 2018 YouTube video showing former president Barack Obama are virtually flawless examples. In its quest to become the world leader in AI technology, China is no doubt pushing the limits of AI-powered deception. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has the means and the ambition to “surpass the United States as the world’s AI [artificial intelligence] leader within a decade,” according to a 750-page report published on March 1 by the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence (NSCAI). The bipartisan group includes 15 technology, security, business, and academic experts. While AI has a broad range of groundbreaking applications that could elevate mankind to new heights, the NSCAI questions the ethics of China’s AI endeavors and strategies, which include an enormous genetic database, questionable intellectual property (IP) application filings and theft, and illegal technology transfers from the U.S. to China.

Biotechnological control of dissidents

With the advent of technologies such as the gene editing tool CRISPR, genetic data is now programmable. Many of mankind’s most complex challenging issues related to health, food supply, and environmental sustainabil-

ity could potentially be addressed through biotechnological innovations. However, “AI may enable a pathogen to be specifically engineered for lethality or to target a genetic profile—the ultimate range and reach weapon,” the NSCAI stated. With regard to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the NSCAI acknowledges the “dangers of a highly contagious pathogen,” but does not explicitly address the alleged Wuhan lab connection. Although a highly contested theory, German scientist and professor Dr. Roland Wiesendanger posits that a “number of quality sources” indicate a “laboratory accident” at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) was the origin of the pandemic. The lab theory is bolstered by China’s longstanding history of dangerous gain-of-function virology research, which can create novel deadly or infectious pathogens. The Chinese regime has now amassed the largest genetic database in the world with over 80 million profiles, and according to Newsweek, plans to “dominate the biotech industry” and develop “biological weapons designed to target certain ethnic groups.” Last year, Chinese leader Xi Jinping declared plans to further micromanage its citizens and facilitate “the orderly flow of personnel” by creating “internationally accepted QR codes,” which are essentially global health certificates based on nucleic acid test results.

Biotechnology giants such as BGI Group, formerly the Beijing Genomics Institute, are working to expand China’s genetic database by collecting DNA from the U.S. and other countries.

A CBS News 60 Minutes documentary revealed that BGI sent letters to multiple states last year, offering expertise and genetic sequencing services. The universal decision to refuse BGI’s services was justi-

fied given that the Chinese company received $1.5 billion from the CCP in 2010 and has been collecting genetic data from Uyghur Muslims to “identify people, target other family members and refine facial recognition software.”

IP policy exploitation and theft

China has started to outpace the U.S. in the IP race by exploiting policies and investing heavily in the field. IP is a critical component of national security, economic growth, and technological innovation. “In 2019, the total number of ‘invention’ patent applications filed at the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) was approximately three times as many as utility patent applications filed at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO),” the NSCAI reported. Furthermore, China is often touted as the world leader in domestic patent application filings for AI inventions. The recent surge of patent application filings will likely harm U.S. innovation through a phenomenon known as “prior art,” a patent law term for the scientific and technological knowledge by which an invention is assessed to determine if it is novel. Since such a great quantity of prior art must be reviewed for every patent application, the evaluation process will likely become increasingly lengthy and onerous. China has further capitalized on its IP successes by identifying an excessive number of “standardessential” patents (SEPs). To illustrate this concept, manufacturing standard-compliant products like smartphones would be impossible without using SEPs involving data transmission between cellular phones and towers. In contrast, non-SEPs such as design patents for “slide to unlock” technology are often evaded by using alternative design features. NSCAI states that over-declaring SEPs may prompt countries to incorporate Chinese technologies into their communications infrastructures, and a “worrisome result may be that U.S. companies must pay billions in royalties to China’s companies or face claims and resulting litigation that they willfully infringed on Chinese company patent rights.” These concerns are compounded by evidence that “China continues to pervasively steal American IPprotected technological advances

A7

through varied means like cyber hacking of businesses and research institutes, technological espionage, blackmail, and illicit technology transfer.” Clearly, the U.S. must act quickly to strengthen security measures, incentivize investments into IP patents, and reestablish leadership in the IP field.

Illicit technology transfer

The CCP plans to become a “world S&T [science and technology] innovation superpower” by 2050, according to its National Innovation-Driven Development Strategy published in 2016. Both legal and illicit technology transfer strategies are being employed against U.S. critical sectors, companies, and research entities, resulting in an estimated $300 to $600 billion per year in stolen trade secrets. FBI director Christopher Wray explained to a 2020 conference at Washington’s Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) that by establishing “campus proxies” and “institutes on our campuses,” China exploited U.S. academic openness to steal technology. According to CSIS data, between 2000 and 2020, there were 137 publicly reported cases of espionage linked to China, 73 percent of which occurred within the last decade. Military and commer-

China is simultaneously boosting domestic intellectual property (IP) growth by incentivizing IP applicant filings and stealing foreign IP technologies. A 1972 patent of an early Sony phonograph, or record player, is shown. (Image: Archives New Zealand via Flickr CC BY 2.0)

cial technologies were most commonly targeted. Furthermore, 90 percent of the FBI’s 180 active medical research investigations last year were linked to China, involving misuse of National Institutes of Health (NIH) funds, diversion of research IP, and breaches of confidentiality. The Chinese regime has also infiltrated American companies to a significant extent, with more than $1.3 billion invested in American AI startups between 2010 and 2017. The NSCAI states that a “significant technology transfer risk” exists because the U.S. government has restricted insight into the transactions with the current policies in place.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has been actively involved in about 1,000 investigations regarding China’s attempted theft of USbased technologies encompassing virtually every industry. Adobe Stock

any stories, especially Taoist, tell that Mount Qunlun was the place where Taoist cultivators practiced and became immortal. Ancient Chinese regarded the mountain as “the source of the dragon’s meridian.” The Heavens even left a divine pool on the mountain top known as “Yaochi,” or Jade Lake.

The dragon map of China The land of China is named the giant dragon. Geographers hold that the shape of China is that of a dragon formed by many big and small world-famous mountain ranges, as well as a few of the most crucial life-breeding river systems in the world. All of these mountains and rivers originate from Mount Qunlun. It bore China and even Asia, and China was born lying on its main meridian, which developed into branches, and branches into more branches. Just like the blood vessel network of the human body, it ultimately ran through the whole of greater China. As the most sacred of China’s mountains, Mount Qunlun runs east from the Pamirs of Tajikistan along the border between Xinjiang and the Tibet autonomous regions to the Sino-Tibetan ranges in Qinghai Province. It spans 2,500 km in length and 130-200 km in width, totaling an approximate surface area of 500,000 square km, and holds an average altitude of 5,500-6,000 meters. The exact sacred location of Mount Qunlun, where deities cultivated in accord to legends, still remains a mystery today. According to ancient Chinese literature, Mount Qunlun was more than 10,000 miles in height and covered by a layer of celestial light.

Where is Jade Lake? A legend figure, the Queen Mother of the West was closely tied to Jade Lake. Living by it, she was the most ancient goddess for the Chinese. Tieguai Li, one of the Eight Immortals, was believed to have become immortal only by following her guidance. Great poet Li Shangyin of late Tang Dynasty was renowned for the imagist quality of his poetry. His writing to recap the legend and story of Jade Lake aroused fanciful thoughts about the celestial place from numerous scholars and intellectuals of his time. The poem goes like this: “The Queen Mother of the West looks out through the open window. The song composed by King Mu of the Zhou Dynasty for his trip to Huangzhu drifts in the air and saddens the heart. King Mu’s steed-drawn carriage can travel 30,000 miles a day. Why doesn’t he come and visit again?” According to the legend, more than 3,000 years ago, King Mu once rode on his carriage drawn by eight extraordinarily fine steeds that could travel 30,000 miles a day to pay his visit to the Queen Mother of the West at the far away Jade Lake. The Queen Mother, as the chief of the Western region, stood and waited by the lake to receive the respectful guest. Grand feasts and ceremonies were held to celebrate his visit. Seeing the grand view of the lake like a mirror in the air and its extension into the distance, the king was impressed. He tremendously enjoyed the trip. When they parted, he promised to return three years later. However, the promise was never fulfilled! As dreamy and juicy as the story is, however, none of the scriptures on record concretely pinpointed the location of Jade Lake.

According to historical records, the legendary Jade Lake should be the Black Sea, which is the source of the Qunlun River. Located at a high altitude in a natural plateau, the lake maintains a mysterious veil. However, nowadays people are keen to treat the Heavenly Lake of Tianshan in Xinjiang, Northwest China, as Jade Lake because the ancient name for this particular lake was also called Jade Lake. Foods By Helen London

Are Excellent

for Liver Health

Garlic

Garlic is a very useful food. It contains high levels of allicin and selenium. These two natural compounds help promote liver function and detoxify the liver. Garlic also has anti-inflammatory effects, which can clear liver inflammation to a certain extent and improve liver health. Allicin helps reduce the redness and irritation caused by skin inflammation.

A healthy liver is vital to overall health and wellbeing.

To improve liver health, you can start with these foods that are good for the liver.

Coffee

Oats

Sweet potatoes

Apples

Broccoli

The liver is a very vital organ. Therefore, liver health is particularly important for the immune system and helps fight infection. It removes bacteria from the blood and produces bile,

which is essential for digestion. The liver can remove harmful substances from the blood and convert food into energy and nutrients. A balanced diet is particularly important for

liver health. Eating too many high-fat foods and fried foods may cause serious damage to the liver and increase the risk of fatty liver and other liver diseases. High-fat foods are readily

available and a main ingredient in convenience foods and microwave meals. But they should not be over-eaten. People must pay attention to the extent of their food consump-

tion. Reasonable portion sizes are good for the liver. Eating a light diet, moderate exercise, and early to sleep and arising early are the greatest protection for the body.

Not only is coffee refreshing, but it also has a certain protective effect on the liver. Caffeine can prevent fat from accumulating in the liver. It can also reduce liver inflammation and increase the body’s natural antioxidant levels. Do not add too much sugar and cream when drinking coffee, or it has the opposite effect by increasing the burden on the liver.

Oatmeal contains healthy carbohydrates and has many benefits for the liver. Oats are high in polysaccharides which can reduce fat in the liver. The high dietary fiber content of oats will also increase the feeling of fullness, thus avoiding excessive consumption of high-fat foods and reducing the burden on the liver.

Sweet potatoes are rich in β-carotene, a natural anti-inf lammatory nutrient that is directly converted into vitamin A in the liver, which is very important for liver health. Sweet potatoes are also rich in dietary fiber and Vitamin C. These nutrients are critical for enhancing immunity and improving liver function.

How to nourish the liver in daily life Control the diet and drink more tea

Don ’ t overeat. Eating to about 70 percent full is optimal. Food with preservatives and artificial colors should be minimized or avoided because they burden the liver, which has to detoxify the unwanted toxic substances. Consume more green tea or chrysanthemum tea, which is good for the liver. It is good to make chrysanthemum tea with some sugar. It is a really nice drink, but don’t drink this if you are cold or prone to catching the flu. It is recommended that you drink chrysanthemum tea if you eat heavy, rich food and also in the hot summer. 212-730-6963

Another suggested tea is the Japanese honeysuckle flower tea. This tea is good to get rid of toxic substances in your body. Your red eyes will slowly get better. This herbal tea has no side effects. It is not an everyday drink, but only if you have red eyes or some breakouts on the face after eating too much fried food. Stay calm and at ease

Keeping the emotions at a steady level eases up the liver’s workload and prolongs its life. So take a deep breath or do meditation to calm down your hot temper.

Take regular rest to minimize energy depletion

Rest is the key. It is equally important to both liver disease sufferers and normal

An apple a day can also improve liver health. Apples are rich in pectin, which is a soluble dietary fiber that helps to remove toxins and cholesterol in the blood to maintain a healthy liver condition. Apples are also rich in malic acid, which can remove toxins and waste products from the blood and liver.

Broccoli contains sulfur compounds similar to garlic, which assist in liver detoxification and repair. In fact, these fibrous vegetables can help remove toxins from the intestines and contain compounds that help the liver metabolize hormones.

Bad habits that harm the liver Keeping late hours

Staying up late is common among modern people. It is also the habit that harms the liver the most. The biological rest time for the liver to restore itself is between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. It is best if you can go to bed before 11 p.m. for the organ to recover from a day’s work.

Overeating or drinking excessively

Eating foods that are high in fat and protein and drinking alcohol can lower the effectiveness of your metabolism. These habits can make you prone to chronic diseases, such as gout, fatty liver, and obesity.

Getting angry or losing ones temper

When you get angry, the energy flow reverts upward, which makes the blood follow. If you do not stop the upward flow in time, the pent-up liver is deprived of the necessary blood and energy to perform its proper function and is harmed as a result.

Reading or working on the computer for too long

At work, we stare at the computer. At home, we stare at our smartphone. The overuse of our eyes hurts the liver and in turn, we get dry eyes, red eyes, or even inflamed eyes. ny@visiontimes.com

beautiful object could emerge from a single piece of paper.

Chinese origami has a long history Liu Tong returned to China where he was a university lecturer. However, his thoughts soon turned to origami, and he spent much of his spare time researching various paper folding techniques passed down over the centuries. Chinese origami has a long history in China, but it was the Japanese who brought it to prominence. In 2016, his work Angel Gabriel was placed in a collection by the Hungarian Embassy, while his Black Eagle was added to a collection by the German Football Association. Liu was also invited by Hermes to create a window display based upon his creations. Apart from being collector’s items, his works are also national gifts. In 2014, his work Beauty of the Qing Vase was presented to the Gabonese Republic as a national gift to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Gabon. During the 2015 World Peace Festival, Liu Tong’s masterpiece The Rites of Ding was presented to Japan as a national gift from China, and in 2016, his work Harmony and Peace was presented as a national gift to the president of the Republic of Maldives.

Message for humanity

Later, he came to know about the endangered northern white rhino in Africa. With 119 square yards (100 square meters) of white paper, he spent almost a year completing an origami rhino measuring more than 6.5 yards (6 meters) long and 3.3 yards (3 meters) wide.Upon completion of his work, Liu Tong said: “I use art to send a message to mankind to come together to protect animals; do not let another white rhino baby lose its mother.” Liu Tong used his white rhino masterpiece to send a message about conservation and it was displayed at the embassies of several countries of the European Union.

In 2016, Liu Tong told this inspirational story on his WeChat page. “A man killed a pangolin and exhausted all means to open up its curled up body. He next put it over a fire, and even though the animal was burned black, the body was still curled up and it took a long time for him to straighten it out. The man was shocked to find a moving baby inside the pangolin’s belly. The pangolin, until its last breath, tried to protect her child. This story showed how the power of a mother’s love surpasses the limits of life.” Liu Tong was deeply moved by this story and created the works Shelter of Motherhood. His works were displayed by the Prado Museum in Spain, where they touched the hearts of all those who came to visit.

Ancient Tree Points to a

he temporary breakdown of Earth’s magnetic field 42,000 years ago sparked major climate shifts that led to global environmental change and mass extinctions, a new international study coled by UNSW Sydney and the South Australian Museum shows. This dramatic turning point in Earth’s history — laced with electrical storms, widespread auroras, and cosmic radiation — was triggered by the reversal of Earth’s magnetic poles and changing solar winds. The researchers dubbed this dangerous period the “Adams Transitional Geomagnetic Event,” or the “Adams Event” for short — a tribute to science fiction writer Douglas Adams, who wrote in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy that “42” was the answer to life, the universe, and everything. The findings are published today in Science. Chris Turney, a professor at UNSW Science and co-lead author of the study, said: “For the first time ever, we have been able to precisely date the timing and environmental impacts of the last magnetic pole switch. The findings were made possible with ancient New Zealand kauri trees, which have been preserved in sediments for over 40,000 years. Using the ancient trees we could measure, and date, the spike in atmospheric radiocarbon levels caused by the collapse of Into the caves Earth’s magnetic field.” Dazzling light shows would While scientists already knew the magnetic poles temporarily have been frequent in the sky durflipped around 41-42,000 years ago (known as the “Lasing the Adams Event. Uncovering ancient clues

These findings come two years after a particularly important ancient kauri tree was uncovered at Ngāwhā, Northland, New Zealand. The massive tree — with a trunk spanning over two and a half metres — was alive during the Laschamps. Nelson Parker (www.nelsonskaihukauri.co.nz UNSW’s Dr. Jonathan Palmer, a specialist in dating tree-rings (dendrochronology), who studied cross sections of the trees at UNSW Science’s Chronos 14Carbon-Cycle Facili, said: “Like other entombed kauri logs, the wood of the Ngāwhā tree is so well preserved that the bark The perfect (cosmic) storm is still attached.” The magnetic north pole — that is, Using radiocarbon dating — a technique to date ancient relics or events — the team tracked the the direction a compass needle points to — doesn’t have a fixed location. It usuchanges in radiocarbon levels during the magnetic pole reversal. This data was charted alongside ally wobbles close to the North Pole (the the trees’ annual growth rings, which act as an accurate, natural timestamp. northern-most point of Earth’s axis) over The new timescale helped reveal the picture of this dramatic period in Earth’s history. The time due to dynamic movements within team was able to reconstruct the chain of environmental and extinction events using climate modeling. the Earth’s core, just like the magnetic south pole. Sometimes, for reasons that aren’t clear, the magnetic poles’ movements can be more drastic. Around 41,000-42,000 years ago, they swapped places entirely. Prof. Turney said: “The Laschamps Excursion was the last time the magnetic poles flipped. They swapped places for about 800 years before changing their minds and swapping back again.” Until now, scientific research has focused on changes that happened while the magnetic poles were reversed, when the magnetic field was weakened to about 28 percent of its present-day strength. But according to the team’s findings, the most dramatic part was the lead-up to the reversal, when the poles were migrating across the Earth. Prof. Turney said: “Earth’s magnetic field dropped to only 0-6 per cent strength during the Adams Event. We essentially had no magnetic field at all — our cosmic radiation shield was totally gone.” During the magnetic field breakdown, the Sun experienced several “Grand Solar Minima (GSM), long-term periods of quiet solar activity. Even though a GSM means less activity on the Sun’s surface, the weakening of its magnetic field can mean more space weather — like solar flares and galactic cosmic rays — could head Earth’s way. Prof. Turney said: “Unfiltered radiation from space ripped apart air particles in Earth’s atmosphere, separating electrons and emitting light — a process called ionisation. The ionised air ‘fried’ the Ozone layer, triggering a ripple of climate change across the globe.”
