merican mixed martial artist Rose Namajunas stunned Zhang Weili and the world to log a brilliant first-round knockout in the co-Main Event of UFC 261. The Lithuanian-born fighter won back her Strawweight Championship and silenced critics of her pre-fight anti-Communist remarks where she said “Better dead than red” and “Weili is red.” The Champions faced off in front of a live crowd on Saturday in Jacksonville. “Thug” Rose defeated Zhang, regaining her UFC Strawweight Belt with a lightning fast knockout kick to the head at 1:18 of the first round. Following her opponent to the ground with follow-up strikes, Referee Keith Peterson had seen enough and stopped the contest. “I did it again,” Namajunas said with tears running down her face. “I am the best. I didn’t see her moving. I wasn’t sure she was going to come back from that. A couple of those hammer fists and that was out.” Zhang, who entered the title bout with a stellar 20 wins

and 1 loss record, still swaying and dazed, protested that the referee stopped the fight too early. However, the Chinese star could not impose herself against Namajunas as she had against Joanna Jędrzejczyk in March 2020 in what some have called the most outstanding female MMA fight of all time. Namajunas, the first fighter to beat Zhang in the UFC, handed the Chinese opponent only her second loss in her professional career.
In an April 10 pre-fight interview, Namajunas commented “Better dead than red” in reference to communism, which her family in Lithuania suffered under when the country was part of the Soviet Union. The comments became somewhat infamous and attracted much pre-fight controversy because they implied the former champion was fighting not only to regain her title, but in something of a spiritual battle against communism.
Thug Rose said she watched the 2012 documentary The Other Dream Team, which was based on the Lithuania men’s basketball team competing in the 1992 Summer Olympics shortly after the fall of the Soviet Union. Namajunas’s exact quote was “After watching that, it was just a huge reminder of like, yeah, it’s better dead than red, you know? And I don’t think it’s any coincidence that Weili is red. That’s what she represents.”

In the initial interview, the star said she values freedom, and her opinions are based upon her experiences with communist aggression. Namajunas said before the fight that she had no misgivings over her “better dead than red” comment and that she regards any opponent as “red,” adding that “they’re just the person standing in the way of my dream.” She also made it clear that her opinions are her own, which were shaped by real-
life experiences. She said, “It’s who I am, it’s my history – when I fight, it has nothing to do with emotion.” Namajunas’ grandfather had been killed by Soviet soldiers. During the interview, she also made it clear her thoughts were based on what her family had experienced in history, “With communism, you can’t freely have an opinion or criticize your government.” Despite criticism, Namajunas refused to back down from her remarks. When asked whether she would have any interest in granting Zhang an immediate rematch, she said, “We’ll talk about it. It’s understandable that she’s pretty upset about how quickly it went and everything like that, but that was perfect time and everything like that, so I’d be open to it, but we’ll have to see.” Namajunas said during post-fight comments. Namajunas also commented after the fight on the prior controversy, “All that stuff that was in the media, that was not my intent to ever personally attack her as a person,” she said. “It’s just my history and my past and that’s it.”

Facebook Censors New York Post Again (Image: Realtor.com)
After Expose on BLM Founder’s Mansion Collection By Arvind Datta Vision Times

ig Tech cartel keystone Facebook has censored another article published by New York Post that revealed a mansion-buying spree by Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Khan-Cullors. According to the article, Cullors has purchased at least four high-end homes in the United States worth $3.2 million since 2016. The 37-year-old self-described “trained Marxist” also looked at purchasing a property in the Bahamas at an exclusive resort frequented by A-list celebrities such as Tiger Woods and Justin Timberlake. Luxury apartments at the resort are said to be priced between $5 and $20 million. Khan-Cullors’ shopping spree began in 2016, just a few years after the BLM movement started gaining popularity after being granted promotion by network media and on Big Tech. Last month, she bought a 2,370 square foot home worth $1.4 million in Topanga Canyon, Los Angeles. The home is described as having “soaring ceilings, skylights and plenty of windows” and in a location that gives a great view of the canyon. The property is said to be one of the three homes that KhanCullors owns in the county. Topanga Canyon is one of the most expensive neighborhoods in America. In terms of demographics, almost 88 percent of the population is white, but only 1.4 percent is black, according to 2010 Census data. After the story began going viral on Facebook, the plat-

Twitter also joined in the censorship, suppressing users who tried to share the expose. form began suppressing it, “Facebook will not allow you to post this NY Post story or even to message it to another person. (I just tested it). So Facebook is now effectively opening your mail and reading the contents for ideologically objectionable material. Anyone worried?” journalist Abigail Shrier said in a tweet. A spokesperson for Facebook claimed in a comment to Breitbart that the content was removed for violating its “privacy and personal information policy.” Although Facebook does have a policy against doxx-
ing, it is clear the platform does not enforce it equally under all circumstances. For instance, the residential information of army drill sergeant Jonathan Pentland, whose home was thrashed by BLM rioters, continues to remain published. Ben Smith, a columnist with New York Times, pointed out in a tweet that the policy cited by Facebook to censor New York Post content can be used against “lots of articles on news sites.” Twitter also joined in the censorship, suppressing users who tried to share the expose. Sports writer Jason Whitlock, who shared the article while criticizing Khan-Cullors for living in a neighborhood with little to no black residents, was suspended by the platform under the excuse he had violated rules against publishing private information. Twitter later reversed the suspension, claiming that the decision was due to an error.
‘The perfect example of Marxist ideology’
The National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC), which released information on KhanCullors’ real estate transactions in Georgia and California, raised concerns about wealth raised for causes claiming to be activist in nature being redistributed for personal gain, “This voice of the underprivileged seems to be doing pretty well,” said NLPC Chairman Peter Flaherty in a statement. “Whenever a figure in the nonprofit sector acquires significant assets in a short period of time, scrutiny is inevitable. tens of millions from individual citizens and corporate America. Donors to nonprofits deserve to know that the money is being properly spent.” The NLPC says it obtained the data on Cullors collection “using publicly accessible sources, such as Lexis/Nexis, property assessment databases in Los Angeles, property databases in the Bahamas, and property databases in Gwinnett County, Georgia. We also requested all filings with permitting authorities in the locations as well as the Federal Aviation Administration.” Hawk Newsome, head of Black Lives Matter Greater New York City, which is distinct from the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation Cullors runs, demanded that an independent investigation be conducted to determine how the global branch is spending its money. He told the Post that if someone calls themselves a socialist, it is imperative to look at how much of their personal money is being spent for charitable purposes, adding that such incidents damage the reputation of the movement. In an interview with Marc Lamont Hill of Black News Tonight, Khan-Cullors tried to justify her property purchases by saying that she was investing in her family to support her mentally ill brother, mother, and other close relatives. “I see it (personal money) as my family’s money,” she said. However, her explanation did not sit well with netizens, who bequeathed her the title of a “champagne socialist.” Another person noted that
her statement was an example of woke politics reaching its final form where the proponents of the ideologies excuse themselves from being bound by the ideology. “Ha! But I thought being part of the 1%, owning private property and the nuclear family were all bad???? Love this. It's the perfect example of Marxist ideology. The elites at the top reap all the spoils, while their subjects suffer and die,” Jason Buttrill, former Intelligence Analyst for the DoD, said in a tweet. Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation lashed out defensively at the investigation, with a tender claim that “right-wing forces” are spreading narratives hostile to “a movement that is larger than any one organization.” They claim the investigation into Cullors’ amassment of personal wealth “continues a tradition of terror by white supremacists against Black activists.” The BLM movement is also reportedly influencing leftist organizations in the UK to promote their own “anti-racist” agenda that, as in North America, mainly focuses on Critical Race Theory and identity politics. Meanwhile, UK leftist organization All Black Coalition has demanded candidates of the upcoming London mayoral elections should work to install policies from their “Black Community (UK) Manifesto” throughout their campaigns, using a typical rhetoric which claims that the country’s education, health, business, and criminal justice systems are all infected by systematic racism. subscription@visiontimes.com

Post Office Law Enforcement Arm Being Used to
Surveil Internet for Right-Wing Content
By Neil Campbel Vision Times
A
branch of the United States Postal Service (USPS) created to prevent misuse of the country’s postal system by online actors is now surveilling the Internet and social media for content that may dissent from the establishment narrative, according to reports. An April 21 article published by Yahoo News exposed a concerning surveillance program conducted by a USPS federal law enforcement arm called the Internet Covert Operations Program (iCOP), which falls under the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS). iCOP is supposed to track and collect social media and online content for the purposes of protecting the integrity of the mail system from entities such as drug runners, fraud, and criminal organizations. However, it appears analysts working at the Program have instead been tasked with combing social media posts to identify “inflammatory” postings which are then shared with relevant governmental departments. On March 16, the Department of Homeland Security Fusion Centers distributed an official USPIS Bulletin classified as “Law Enforcement Sensitive” warning that iCOP had detected online chatter in advance of scheduled March 20 International Day of Protests, specifically citing the
We Are the World Worldwide Demonstration and Global Action to Stop 5G protests. The document was obtained by Yahoo News. However, the outlet did not specify where or how it was obtained. The Bulletin stated that the location and times of the planned protests were being distributed through social media platforms, including “right-wing leaning Parler and Telegram accounts.” The document claimed “online inflammatory material has been identified, which suggests potential violence may occur,” yet backtracked in the next sentence with the statement, “However, there is currently no intelligence to suggest specific threats.” The evidence the Bulletin relies on is a Parler thread that was started by known a Proud Boys member rebroadcasting the March 20 scheduled events, along with a screenshot of a separate Parler thread, mentioned in the same paragraph, where an unidentified user cautions members of the public planning to attend the protests: “There has been online posts saying patriots are going to confront BLM on the 20th.” The warning
is followed by a second user who responds, “Stop placating…Kick their ass. Humiliate them. Make them sorry they were born,” and a third user who states “Don’t just kick their asses. Do serious damage to them. Gouge out their eyes or cut off their hands.” All three users are redacted from the screenshot, labelled Image 3. Neither the identity nor the veracity of the posters or their commentary is commented on in the Bulletin. Instead, iCOP’s Bulletin frames the conversation in the following light, “Parler

users have commented about their intent to use the rallies to engage in violence. Image 3 on the right is a screenshot from Parler indicating two users discussing the event as an opportunity to engage in a ‘fight’ and to ‘do serious damage.’” “No intelligence is available to assess the legitimacy of these threats,” it concludes. “This seems a little bizarre,” Rachel Levinson-Waldman, Deputy Director of the Brennan Center for Justice’s liberty and national security program, said to Yahoo. “Based on the very minimal information that’s available online, it appears that [iCOP] is meant to root out misuse of the postal system by online actors, which doesn’t seem to encompass what’s going on here. It’s not at all clear why their mandate would include monitoring of social media that’s unrelated to use of the postal system,” “If the individuals they’re monitoring are carrying out or planning criminal activity, that should be the purview of the FBI,” she said. “If they’re simply engaging in lawfully protected speech, even if it’s odious or objectionable, then monitoring them on that
basis raises serious constitutional concerns.” University of Chicago law professor Geoffrey Stone, who had conducted a review of NSA data collection efforts following an expose by Edward Snowden, also told Yahoo he found it surprising the federal government was utilizing the postal service for online domestic surveillance. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) tweeted in response to the news, “Disturbing! Why do Presidents and my colleagues in congress tolerate these violations of the Constitution? Also, and unfortunately, the USPS has been losing money for many years… so where do they find money to run this surveillance program?” When probing for comment from the USPIS on the story, Yahoo only received a generalized statement in response, stating that iCOP “assesses threats to Postal Service employees and its infrastructure by monitoring publicly available open source information.” “Additionally, the Inspection Service collaborates with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to proactively identify and assess potential threats to the Postal Service, its employees and customers, and its overall mail processing and transportation network.” The Postal Service did not elucidate as to why or how the March 20 Global Day of Protests were considered a threat to the Postal Service or its employees.
Georgia Secretary of State Accepted $5 Million from Zuckerberg-backed Group By Arvind Datta Vision Times
T
he Office of the Secretary of State of Georgia Brad Raffensperger received almost $5.6 million dollars last year from an entity with ties to Facebook owner Mark Zuckerberg. The organization, Center for Election Innovation and Research (CEIR) based in Washington D.C, granted the money in the lead up to the 2020 presidential election. “Georgia used CEIR grant funds in both the November general election and January runoff election to encourage voters to apply for a ballot online… This approach sped up the process for both voters and election officials while also making it easier to track application status. Georgia also used the funds to counteract disinformation, issuing public service announcements warning voters of disinformation and encouraging them to report fraud to the Secretary of State hotline,” states the CEIR website. When ‘Georgia Star News’ contacted Raffensperger’s office for clarification on subscription@visiontimes.com
the issue, spokesman Walter Jones took a dig at the outlet. He stated that the funds received by the office enabled them to combat disinformation promoted by media entities like the outlet that undermined the confidence of Georgia’s voters. Interestingly, ‘Georgia Star News’ only began publishing after the 2020 Election Day. Jones also pointed out that having the office accept the funds and distribute it fairly around the state was something endorsed by the Republican legislature. Without the Secretary of State’s office, the funds would have gone to the donor’s preferred county election boards. In an undated press release, Raffensperger praised the staff at CEIR as the “greatest minds that the country has to offer” due to which his state was able to have a safe and reliable paper-ballot system. On its website, CEIR showers praises on Mark Zuckerberg and wife Priscilla Chan for their generous support, and claims that they gave every state the requested amount. The final distributed amount totaled $65 million which CEIR says was used to bolster voter education efforts in
“a variety of ways.” The group apparently received $69 million from Zuckerberg. It is unknown how the remaining $4 million was spent. In December, it was reported that the Board of Commissioners at Fulton County, Georgia had accepted a $6.3 million grant in September without asking questions about where the funds were coming from or what the money would be used for. The funds were granted by Zuckerbergbacked Center for Technology and Civic Life (CTCL). The decision to accept the funds was on Sept. 2, 2020, just a day after CTCL had received a $250 million donation from Zuckerberg.
Flipping Maricopa County
A report released by the Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) showed that several counties in the state of Arizona received more than $5 million from the Facebook founder via entities like the CTCL, which they term as ‘Zuckerbucks’. Though the grants were provided under the pretext of COVID-19 response, the report states
that much of the funds were utilized for “Get out the vote” (GOTV) efforts and possibly ended up boosting voter turnout in favor of Democrats. On average, counties that received Zuckerberg funding saw the vote share of Democratic presidential candidates rise when compared to the 2016 election. “In Maricopa County, the only county in the state to flip in the 2020 election, President Trump increased his vote total by more than 248,000 votes yet lost the county to Biden. In 2020, Biden improved on Hillary Clinton’s 2016 vote total in the county by more than 337,000 votes. This nearly 90,000-vote difference cannot be explained by registration increases… In counties that went for Biden in 2020, Zuckerbucks seem to have helped boost Democratic turnout,” states the report. It recommended that Arizona elections be protected from outside influence, specifically private funding groups, so as to avoid undermining the integrity of the election process. The report asks legislators to prohibit outside actors from funding the elections.
VISION TIMES
Banning private funds
In view of private funds pouring into the 2020 elections, various states are creating laws to counter similar activities in future. In Florida, an election bill, HB 7041, was recently passed by the House Appropriations Committee in a 17-8 vote. It contains a specific prohibition on private funding of elections, with Section 97.106 explicitly banning such activities. “No agency or state or local official responsible for conducting elections, including, but not limited to, a supervisor of elections, may solicit, accept, use, or dispose of any donation in the form of money, grants, property, or personal services from an individual or a nongovernmental entity for the purpose of funding election-related expenses or voter education or registration programs,” from the section. The bill is expected to pass through both houses of the legislature prior to April 30 prior to the current sessions close. The governor of Florida, Republican Ron DeSantis, has expressed full support for the bill. Once approved by the two houses, the bill will
be sent to DeSantis who is expected to sign it into law. During the 2020 presidential election, CTCL had provided funds to 12 counties in the state. The amount received by the counties is unknown. In Arizona, Governor Doug Ducey recently signed legislation banning the use of private funds in elections. Democrats criticized the lack of funds from the Legislature as a reason for election officials turning to private funds. Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, who received $4.8 million from CEIR, argued that the money was critical in educating people on how to vote. However, Republican Senator JD Mesnard warned that if private funding is allowed, it will become the newest way for rich individuals and corporations to influence elections. Governor Ducey pledged to provide adequate resources to election officials by partnering with the Legislature. The Wisconsin Senate also passed a bill last week prohibiting municipalities and counties from securing funds for administering elections. However, it allows the Wisconsin Election Commission to accept private funds and then distribute the money equally. The bill was passed with a 25-0 vote. It will now go to the State Assembly and finally Governor Evers before getting signed into law. 212-730-6962

Uyghur Laborers for Sale by the Batch

nvestigative reporting by British Sky News recently exposed the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) practice of selling Uyghur labor on the Chinese internet, where dozens of ads on mainland websites advertise Uyghurs for sale in batches of 50 to 100. Uyghur Muslims are a Turkic ethnic minority residing primarily in the Xinjiang region. It is estimated that more than 1 million Uyghurs are currently being detained in Xinjiang under the Party’s notorious “reeducation” methods. The CCP claims they are trying to prevent terrorism and religious extremism. The Communist Party’s persecution and attempt to culturally cleanse the region has been

deflined as genocide by lawmakers from countries such as the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdon. The Party, by comparison, refers to their efforts as “eradicating tumors,” and has called accusations of injustice against Uyghurs in Xinjiang “the lie of the century.” The regime claims any negative information about the Xinjiang campaign is fabricated by “anti-China politicians.” According to a recent report by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) titled Uyghurs for Sale, an estimated 80,000 — although the actual number may be much higher — Uyghurs were transferred out of Xinjiang between 2017 and 2019, for labor in 27 different factories in nine different provinces. The factories have ties to 82 well-known brands.
The ASPI report explained how workers were transferred out of Xinjiang under a CCP policy called “Xinjiang Aid.” Once transferred, they have to live in segregated dormitories, where they “undergo organised Mandarin and ideological training outside working hours.” The laborers are subject to “constant surveillance” and “forbidden from participating in religious observances.” Under Xinjiang Aid, “local governments and private brokers are paid a price per head by the Xinjiang provincial government to organise the labour assignments. The job transfers are now an integral part of the ‘re-education’ process, which the Chinese government calls ‘vocational training.’” A CCP work report from 2019 claimed “those employed need to receive thorough ideological education and remain
in their jobs.” Sky News said that China’s leading search engine, Baidu, is being used for the postings that sell Uyghur labor online. An agent from one of the companies selling Uyghurs told Sky News that workers were “examined politically” before they were transferred to other parts of China for labor. Once in other provinces, they were subjected to another “political examination.” Workers are accompanied by “supervisors” and put under “half-military management.” Sky visited one factory in Shandong, where a propaganda reel from a local news department described 200 workers who were supposedly all very supportive of the CCP and pleased to be working. “They will continue creating a harmonious work environment for our Uighur compatriots,” the video claimed of
the Uyghur workers. The owner of the factory told Sky News that all the workers had returned home to Xinjiang due to the pandemic. He said Uyghur laborers earned “£300 per month [$415 USD approx.], and had air conditioners in their onsite dormitories,” which were monitored by security cameras and a front office that had riot gear. When workers wanted to leave the factory to go to the store, the company would take them in buses. The Sky News investigation unfortunately did not get too much further than that. Once they were reported to local Communist Party authorities by the owner of the factory, 12 CCP officials quickly arrived and detained the journalists. They were subjected to two hours of questioning before being ordered to leave town.
China’s Growing Military Might Alarms U.S. Officials
Modern Warfare Will Begin Silently By Prakash Gogoi Vision Times

a recent House Armed Services Committee congressional hearing, top American military officials warned that China’s ability to project its naval prowess in the Indian Ocean is alarming. China's military power is growing at such a rapid pace that the American forces might have trouble handling the PLA in the east.
Djibouti base is located just 7.4 miles away from the U.S. military base, Camp Lemonnier, home to around 4,500 American troops. Other nations that have military bases in Djibouti include Italy, Japan, and France. “Their first overseas military base, their only one, is in Africa, and they have just expanded that by adding a significant pier that can even support their aircraft carriers in the future. Around the continent, they are looking for other basing opportunities… [China] very much ha[s] the intent to establish additional overseas bases in Africa, whether that be on the Atlantic coast of Africa or the Indian Ocean coast of Africa… China is of great concern. They are literally everywhere on the continent. They are placing a lot of bets down. They
are spending a lot of money,” Townsend said at the hearing. At another congressional hearing held on April 20, Navy Admiral Charles Richard, the head of U.S. Strategic Command, which oversees America’s nuclear weapons, warned that China’s nuclear stockpile was expanding at an unprecedented rate. He highlighted Chinese advancements in the development of fast breeder reactors, a type of fast reactor that produces more fissile material than it consumes. A certain portion of these materials can be diverted to manufacture nuclear weapons.
Taiwan war
As the Chinese military develops, doubts over America’s capability to defend Taiwan are also increasing. According to David Ochmanek, former senior Defense Department official who helps run war games for the Pentagon at the RAND Corp. think tank, in most stimulated combat scenarios where China invades Taiwan,

the United States ends up on the losing side. In such exercises, the Chinese ‘red team’ wipes out the Taiwanese air force within minutes while the American ‘blue team’ military bases in the Pacific are attacked; the result being U.S. warships and aircraft are kept away from the region by a wide arsenal of Chinese missiles. Military officers stationed in the Pacific have warned the Pentagon that they need to change their mindset on dealing with China, which includes shifting more weapons to Asia, developing new combat tactics, and so on. If American finds itself on the defensive in Taiwan, it could shake the confidence of its allies.
China’s growing cyber-warfare
There are also concerns about China’s growing cyber warfare and electronic capabilities. Some warn that Beijing might employ such technologies to blow up American digital commu-
nication systems if a conflict were to occur, thus crippling the U.S. military. Peter Singer, strategist at the think tank New America, explained the situation in an interview with Nikkei Asia, warning that the “opening battle of the next major war will be silent.” In fact, the battle might already have been fought before most people even get wind of it. In a cyber-war, it is the moves one makes weeks before the actual attack that matter. Billy Fabian, a senior analyst at data and analytics firm Govini and adjunct senior fellow at the Center for New American Security, notes that the future conflict between the two superpowers will be very different. For one, every domain will become a battlefield. Secondly, time will be of the essence. Most scenarios where the U.S. ends up going to war with China predict such conflicts to happen in Beijing’s backyard, which means that the American military will only have a short period of time to gain an advantage over the PLA. subscription@visiontimes.com

Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne talks to the media during a press conference at Parliament on April 22, 2021 during a visit in Wellington, New Zealand. Payne and Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s federal government cancelled Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews’s Belt and Road Initiative agreements with the Chinese Communist Party, assessing CCP infrastructure and debt trap projects are not in the interests of Australia.

T
he Australian federal government has revoked agreements signed by Victoria Premier Dan Andrews, which signed the State into the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) debt trap and infrastructure projects because the deals with Beijing are inconsistent with Australian foreign policy. In total, two BRI projects were among the four canceled proposals under the federal government’s Foreign Arrangements Scheme legislation. The other two agreements cancelled were signed with Syrian and Iranian entities. The two BRI agreements include a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Government of Victoria in Oct. 2018 and a Framework Agreement signed by the Victorian government in Oct. 2019. “I consider these four arrangements to be inconsistent with Australia’s foreign policy or adverse to our foreign relations in line with the relevant test in Australia’s Foreign Relations (State and Territory Arrangements) Act
2020,” Foreign Affairs Minister Marise Payne said in a statement. “I will continue to consider foreign arrangements notified under the Scheme. I expect the overwhelming majority of them to remain unaffected.” The Scheme, which has been in effect since December of last year, requires local government, states, territories, and public universities to notify the Minister of Foreign Affairs of any existing or proposed foreign deals. Payne says that she has been notified of more than 1,000 such arrangements. This is the first time that the country’s conservative government has exercised its powers under the legislation. China has been Australia’s biggest trading partner. Relations between the two nations have been strained since last year after Australia called for an investigation into the origins of the SARSCoV-2 coronavirus pandemic in China. Beijing retaliated by imposing trade restrictions and additional tariffs on Australian imports such as wine and coal. In September of 2020, CCP controlled propaganda rag Global Times chirped that
Australia would become the “poor white trash of Asia” as long as it keeps defying the communist regime’s hegemony. However, despite pressure from Beijing, Australian leaders, led by Prime Minister Scott Morrison, have shown no signs of acquiescing to the Party’s demands. After the Morrison government scrapped Premier Dan Andrews’s BRI projects, CCP propaganda outlets retaliated with warnings of “serious consequences.” Hu Xijin, Global Times Editor-In-Chief, spouted off at Australia personally. He dissonantly attempted to question Australian citizens as to whether their country is a so-called “uncivilized rogue,” which “deserves stern admonition and punishment” in a Twitter rant. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin claimed the decision harms the “mutual trust” between the two nations, and indicated that Beijing would take suitable action in response. Meanwhile, the Party is working to fuel anti-Australian sentiment inside China amongst netizens of its highly controlled Great Internet Firewall. One Weibo post claimed some countries
do not deserve respect, while another account said Australia has no dignity, and that the Chinese government ought to teach them a lesson. Albert Zhang, a researcher at the Australian Strategy Policy Institute (ASPI) said in his analysis, the social media posts against Australia were triggered by both pro-CCP propaganda and genuine anger among Chinese people. “I think the recent sort of withdrawal or cancellation of the trade agreement with the Chinese government might potentially cast a negative portrayal of the BRI agreements around the world,” Zhang said to ABC News. “So I think the Chinese government here is trying to stop that perception before people interpret [the withdrawal] differently.” One of the Party’s main organs, the Chinese Youth League (CYL), which has 15 million followers on Weibo, is said to be a leading figure in coordinating the construction the Party’s narrative against Australia on Chinese internet.
Projects at risk
China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) recently
released a report warning Beijing that BRI projects will face massive challenges over the next five years due to COVID-19 fall out and increasing political risks in participating nations. Some of the most important factors that could affect BRI acceptance include rivalry between China and the United States, changes to trade systems and global governance, and growth in emerging economies. “Due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the world economy is in recession and under increasing pressure. The foundation of our country’s economic recovery is not yet steady. Some local governments and enterprises have certain difficulties in their economic and financial situation, the resources they can put in to the Belt and Road Initiative will be affected,” the report states.

The BRI found another debt trap victim in the nation of Montenegro. In 2014, Montenegro accepted a loan of 1 billion euros from the CCP to build a highway, linking the country with Serbia. In 2018, the
country began experiencing difficulty in repaying the loan. To repay the debt, the Montenegro government began freezing public sector wages, raising taxes, and even ending a benefits program for mothers. The loan makes up nearly 25 percent of the nation’s overall debt. Montenegro approached the European Commission for help to repay the loan. However, the commission rejected the request. At a press conference, European Union foreign policy spokesperson Peter Stano said that they will not get involved in third-party debts. “The EU is already the largest provider of financial assistance to Montenegro, the largest investor, and the largest trade partner,” Stano said in a statement. “We continue to stand by them, but we are not repaying the loans they are taking from third parties.” “The EU has concerns over the socioeconomic and financial effects some of China’s investments can have. There is the risk of macro-economic imbalances and debt-dependency.”
Iran Elected to UN Commission on Status of Women By Shoba Rajamani Vision Times
T
he extremist dictatorship of Iran has been elected to the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) for a four-year term after a vote held on April 20. The Iranian regime will sit on the Commission next to China, Japan, Lebanon, and Pakistan. The Islamic regime earned 43 votes from the 54 member states comprising the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Geneva-based human rights group, UN Watch, determined that at least four out of the 15 Western democracies on the Council voted in favor of adding Iran to the Commission. ballot, the list of democratic countries which may have voted in favor include Australia, Austria, Canada, Bulgaria, Finland, France, Latvia, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States. On the CSW website, the Commission proclaims itself as the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment. It purports its purpose is to promote women’s rights, document the reality of women’s lives throughout the world, and shape global standards on gender equality and women’s empowerment. der, according to a report by the United States Institute of Peace. Under the regime’s Sharia Law, married women are prohibited from traveling without the consent of their husbands, women are barred from political participation, and all women are required to wear the hijab (head covering). The government has done little to protect basic human rights for women, such as freedom of speech and freedom of association and assembly, drawing outrage from human rights activists. In Iran, the legal age for a woman to marry is only 13. However, Iranian law allows a child to be given away as young as 9 with parental consent. Islamic Republic of Iran to protect women’s rights is like making an arsonist into the town fire chief.” “It’s absurd—and morally reprehensible. This is a black day for women’s rights, and for all human rights.” Masih Alinejad, an Iranian women’s rights activist, tweeted, “This is surreal.” “A regime that treats women as second class citizens, jails them for not wearing the compulsory hijab, bans them from singing, bars them from stadiums and doesn’t let them travel abroad
without the permission of their husbands gets elected to the U.N.’s top women’s rights body,” added Alinejad. In March of this year, UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran, Javaid Rehman, said during his annual address to the Human Rights Council that “egregious gender-based discrimination persists in law, practice and societal attitudes” in Iran. Rehman added these corrupt practices are only “disempowering women and girls from participating and contributing in society.” 212-730-6962

Tesla’s China Operations Come Under Fire as Beijing Eyes Electric Car Industry By Lin Chen and Leo Timm Vision Times
T
he leading producer of electric vehicles has found itself in a suspicious storm of criticism in China after a Tesla owner made a widely publicized protest at a car show in Shanghai. On April 19, a woman wearing a white T-shirt emblazoned with the words “breaks failed” and the Tesla logo upstaged the company’s booth at the Shanghai Auto Show. The woman claimed her Tesla vehicle failed to stop, causing damage to the front of the car and nearly killing her and her family in a crash that occurred earlier in the year. The details of the woman’s claim are hard to back up, as data shows that the car was braking safely dozens of times in the 30 minutes leading up to the accident, including multiple stops from speeds in excess of 100 kilometers per hour (more than 60 miles per hour). Chinese traffic police had previously concluded that the woman’s father, who was driving the vehicle, was responsible for the crash, as he had been speeding at the time of the accident and violated other traffic rules. The woman was escorted from the car show minutes after besieging the Tesla booth. Tesla offered her an apology for not resolving the incident more quickly, but otherwise stuck to its guns, rejecting her demand for a full refund. However, the incident seems to portend an ominous turn for the American company’s future in China. Chinese state media and even Communist Party organizations quickly picked up and amplified the story. Xinhua, China’s biggest media outlet, questioned, “Who gave Tesla the audacity to ‘not compromise?’ The Peo-

Tesla's data. ple's Daily warned, "No product is irreplaceable." Even the Central Commission of Political and Legal Affairs (PLAC), the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) organization that controls the country’s courts and police, offered an opinion on the row. In an article it published on its official WeChat page, the PLAC wrote that "Tesla must face the grill of Chinese customers."
Storm clouds over Tesla? The official criticism has begun to spill over into official action. On April 24, the traffic division of Guangzhou city in southern China banned Tesla cars on several roads. Multiple Tesla cars were pulled over at highway or expressway entrances without the owners being given a specific reason. Vehicles of other brands were allowed to pass with no problem. Previously, some Chinese parking administrators also banned Tesla vehicles from entering parking lots, saying that cameras built into the cars could violate privacy. China is Tesla's largest mar-
ket after the U.S., accounting for about a quarter of the company's global sales in 2020. Last year, Tesla's revenue in China reached $6.662 billion, an annual increase of 123.63 percent, accounting for 21.12 percent of Tesla's global revenue. It is second only to the U.S. market which is 48.22 percent. Since the 1990s, the CCP has banned foreign car companies from setting up sole subsidiaries in China, forcing foreign companies to set up 50-50 joint ventures with Chinese entities where they share profits, technology and expertise with their Chinese counterparts. But in 2019, with Communist China facing unprecedented external challenges and internal pressure in the midst of the U.S.-China trade war, Tesla received a rare green light to become the first Western car company to build a solely owned factory in China. However, obser vers have warned that Tesla — headed by the storied technocrat Elon Musk — could be soon finding the limits of the Party’s magnanimity. Chinese consu mers a re unlikely to reject Tesla, and the
government is well-aware of the brand’s reputation. A month ago, China released its annual "Complaint-to-Sa les Ratio Ranking" for 2020. Tesla was the best performer, selling 100,000 units with only seven complaints. The worst performer was a model "BYD Qin" made by Chinese electric car maker BYD, which received 360 complaints for 100,000 units sold — 51 times that of Tesla. One Chinese netizen wrote: “If you don't know what to buy, go online and see what people are boycotting, [and buy that.]” In February, the Communist Party's General Administration of Market Supervision and the Central Internet Information Office and five other departments interviewed Tesla over consumer complaints about

quality, issuing a warning to the electric car maker to "strictly comply with Chinese laws and regulations. In March, Tesla was accused of being a "spy car" and was restricted from use by those working in China's military, state-owned enterprises in sensitive industries, and senior official posts. In response, Tesla China issued a statement saying that the vehicles used by Tesla users in China do not violate the privacy of the user through the in-car camera.
Edging out competition Tesla has invested heavily in building a large number of charging stations across China. Tesla electric vehicles have a real-life range of up to 300 miles, which is only one of the features unmatched by many Chinese domestic electric vehicles. Tesla's brand, quality and price tag of just over 300,000 yuan (roughly $46,000) have given Tesla a number one position in the electric car market in China. New energy vehicles are one of the strategic projects of the CCP to compete for the future high technology field. Last November, China released the "New Energy Vehicle Industry Development Plan (2021-2035)", which plans to have new energy vehicles account for about 20 percent of total new vehicle sales by 2025, and to make pure electric vehicles the mainstream of new vehicles sold by 2035. According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the share of new energy vehicles in China was only 5.4 percent in 2020. Both government policies and data send a strong signal that new energy vehicles will have a rapid growth period in China in the next decade or so. In China, a number of wellknown cell phone makers have announced their entry into the smart electric vehicle manufacturing industry. For example, on the evening of March 30, China's Xiaomi announced that it plans to set up a wholly-owned subsidiary to handle the smart electric vehicle business. This company was listed as one of nine companies on the U.S. Department of Defense's "Blacklist of Chinese Communist Party Military Enterprises" in January 2021.

equivalent to making promotions for Tesla." So what does the CCP want most from Tesla? At the moment, one of the more obvious answers is Tesla's data. Electric cars, the intelligence of automotive AI relies on the collection and analysis of large amounts of data. Tesla, with its huge market share, is undoubtedly ahead of many of its Chinese and international counterparts in terms of data. The raw data of electric vehicles often contains inside many of the core technologies of autonomous driving. Through the collection and analysis of these data, some sensitive technology is likely to be revealed to Beijing. On April 22, the same day that Tesla began taking heavy criticism, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) proposed that the government revise and supplement relevant regulations and standards for intelligent networked vehicles, and further improve the data monitoring system by adopting a polycentric data governance model. The "polycentric data governance " means that in order to improve the
More notably, Huawei unveiled a series of smart cars Alfa S on April 17. It entered its first motor show on April 19 right after. Though nominally a private company Huawei has extensive suspected links to the People’s Liberation Army military and the Chinese intelligence system. Having suffered a major blow in the cell phone industry, Huawei quickly shifted its strategic focus to new energy vehicles. Instead of launching its own independent brand of EVs, Huawei has chosen to partner with three Chinese automakers, BAIC, Chang’an Auto, and Guangzhou Auto in an approach dubbed "Huawei Inside" to create three respective sub-brands. One of such new energy vehicle brands made with BAIC is ArcFox, which has just launched its first series of electric cars, the Alpha S. According to official statistics, the cumulative production capacity of new energy passenger cars of China's major automakers has exceeded 20 million units. However, total retail volume in 2020 was 1.109 million units. In other words, there is nearly 20 times more production capacity waiting to be absorbed by the market. Tesla has been reducing its prices by up to 30 percent since 2021. This has further squeezed the market for the new domestic players’ brands such as NIO, XPeng Motors and Li Auto, which are lagging behind Tesla to begin with.
data monitoring system, the data of foreign enterprises like Tesla cannot be placed in the United States. Instead, data from the Chinese market should be held in China. Last Febr ua r y, Wi l lia m Evanina, director of the U.S. Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC), said that stealing U.S. aircraft technology and electric car technology are two of the main focuses of Communist espionage efforts. Tesla's global vice president Tao Lin has publicly stated that Tesla is building a data center in China, which is expected to be ready in the second quarter of this year. The data center is Tesla's own, but a part of it will cooperate with Chinese companies. Last year, Steve Sa leen, founder of American specialty vehicles brand Saleen Automotive, revealed that Saleen Motors of China had stolen nearly 40 years of intellectual property from him. In 2016, Steve Saleen began a partnership with a company from Jiangsu Province in
A7
China, which guaranteed Saleen and his U.S. partners would maintain a majority stake in the company, which Saleen claims to be "a sham deal.” He pointed out that the company, Jiangsu Saleen Automotive Technologies (JSAT), had registered upwards of 510 Saleen patents in China for various types of automotive design, technology, trade secrets and engineering research and development without his consent. In addition, in almost all of the company's patent applications, Steve Saleen is not listed as the patent holder. According to Chinese media, Jiangsu Saleen Automobile, a smart car manufacturing company, has raised a total of 6.6 billion yuan from various parties, especially from the Chinese government. Despite this, it has sold only 31 vehicles so far. Its Chinese owner is suspected of corrupting state assets and is currently under investigation by a local Chinese court.
Tech transfer The Chinese government has given Tesla huge incentives to invest in China. In 2018, Tesla received approval to build a factory in Shanghai, making it the largest foreign-funded manufacturing project in the city. Other benefits offered include tax incentives, low-interest loans and permission to build a factory that is solely-owned by a foreign identity. Tesla has made many of its technologies and designs available to its Chinese counterparts. Observers say this is why players from other industries in China are able to enter the smart car industry. However, according to expert analysis, even with Tesla's designs, they cannot build a high quality smart car using the technology that’s available in China. All key parts such as sensors need to be imported. As a result, the cost of building an electric car would be higher than Tesla. It is no surprise to hear some Chinese industry insiders express, "If Tesla is not driven away, no one would buy China-made new energy vehicles priced at more than 100,000 yuan. The series of policies launched in different parts of China to offer subsidies on electric vehicles and place restrictions on gas vehicles would be

Rejecting Lust Results in Building
GOOD Fortune

seriously? Ancient literature contains many examples that demonstrate the process of reward or retribution with regard to this situation. Below is one such case. During the Northern Song Dynasty, Lin Maoxian from Xinzhou District of Jiangxi Province was a learned person. As his family was extremely poor, he focused on his studies and did not waste any time idling. One day, he received an award of acknowledgment from the village. The wife of a rich neighbor disliked her husband because he didn’t have an education and secretly yearned for Lin Maoxian’s academic reputation. After he got the award, this woman became infatuated with Lin Maoxian and one night went to his house. Lin Maoxian told her sternly: “There are differences between men and women, and this behavior does not conform to the rules of Heavenly etiquette. Heaven, Earth, good and evil are all around us as if we’re in a forest. How can you corrupt my moral conduct?” The woman felt ashamed after hearing this and left his home. In the second year, Lin Maoxian passed the highest imperial examinations. As he was very talented with outstanding achievements, he was placed in an important position in the imperial court. He became the minister of ceremonies in the capital and had the second highest rank. Later, all four of his sons also passed the highest imperial examinations. They were honored with praises and the title “A family of imperial graduates” or “A family of honorable nobles.” One of noble character needs to discipline themselves even in private. The Doctrine of the Mean, a notable Confucian text, begins by saying that one of noble character needs to discipline themselves even in private. When commenting on morally inferior people, they are said to fear nothing. Discipline requires reverence and fear. One must revere social etiquette or fear the consequences, as was demonstrated by Lin Maoxian’s strong self-discipline. The ancients respected Heaven and the Divine. One of noble character, even in a dark room, knows that divine beings are watching, and doesn’t dare indulge in lust. They can restrain themselves, cultivate compassion, and accumulate good fortune, and will be blessed by the Heavens and admired by both humans and gods. Those with inferior morals do not believe in karmic retribution; they are impertinent. Their low morality inclines them to believe that no one will know if they conceal their bad actions. They don’t realize that while their thoughts and actions can be concealed from people, they cannot be concealed from the divine, and so they will incur great karma, angering the heavens.
T
here are many sayings from ancient times. One is: “When going about one’s business, one must abide by heavenly principles.” Another is: “To expand one’s field of fortune, one must act according to one’s conscience.” This implies that people must follow heavenly principles in order to accomplish tasks effectively. To enable good fortune to grow, people must cultivate their hearts. The ancients believed that they could accumulate virtue by protecting lives and being sure not to have sexual affairs. The King of Wenchang (文昌王) is a Taoist deity known in the West as the Chinese God of Culture and Literature. In his text Hidden Good Deeds, he said: “Following lustful thoughts is the action of an unrighteous person. Lust corrupts one’s compassionate character, moral integrity, and reputation. Lust violates heavenly principles and that person must be punished. The Heavens often bring swift retribution to those people. If a person does not fear retribution and does not restrain themselves and correct the evil acts, they will suffer ongoing misfortune. Only those with a clean body and good virtue who guard their bodies like precious jade can receive Heaven’s good fortune.” Since ancient times, those who can abstain from lust have received good fortune. However, those who desire lust and indulge in sensual pleasures will experience turmoil and disaster on a regular basis. This is enough to harm one’s quiet acts of merit and one’s future. Once you have a lustful thought, even if it is not carried out, it is already sinful. For those who commit such acts, not only must they experience disaster, but they will bring disaster to their descendants. In doing so, some people rapidly lose their good fortune, some peoples’ families are torn apart, and there are people who lose their lives. It may be that a person was supposed to have wealth, position, and honor, but because of such acts, they became impoverished for the rest of their life. Or a person would have had a long life and good fortune as vast as the ocean, but because of such acts, they would encounter misfortune and die young. If a person crosses this line, they have ruined their integrity and betrayed Heavenly principles. As there is no place for such a person in Heaven or on Earth, how can one not take this

ccording to Wall Street behemoth JPMorgan, the fairytale spun by pundits about Reddit’s WallStreetBets organizing to “squeeze” badly positioned hedge fund short sellers of video game retailer Gamestop (NYSE: GME) in what has been affectionately dubbed the “Gamestop Rebellion” is simply false. Peng Cheng, the JPMorgan quantitative and derivatives strategy analyst, wrote to clients in a note: “Although retail buying was portrayed as the main driver of the extreme price rally experienced by some stocks, the actual picture may be much more nuanced,” according to CNBC.

A New State of Light
Physicists Observe New Phase in Bose-Einstein Condensate of Light Particles By VT staff
A
single “super photon” made up of many thousands of individual light particles — about 10 years ago, researchers at the University of Bonn produced such an extreme aggregate state for the first time and presented a completely new light source. The state is called optical Bose-Einstein condensate and has captivated many physicists ever since, because this exotic world of light particles is home to its very own physical phenomena. Researchers led by Prof. Dr. Martin Weitz, who discovered the super photon, and theoretical physicist Prof. Dr. Johann Kroha have returned from their latest “expedition” into the quantum world with a very special observation. They report a new, previously unknown phase transition in the optical BoseEinstein condensate. This is a so-called overdamped phase. The results may in the long term be relevant for encrypted quantum communication. The study has been published in the journal Science.

The Bose-Einstein condensate
The Bose-Einstein condensate is an extreme physical state that usually only occurs at very low temperatures. What’s special is the particles in this system are no longer distinguishable and are predominantly in the same quantum mechanical state, in other words, they behave like a single giant “superparticle.” The state can therefore be described by a single wave function. In 2010, researchers led by Martin Weitz succeeded for the first time in creating a Bose-Einstein condensate from light
particles (photons). Their special system is still in use today. Physicists trap light particles in a resonator made of two curved mirrors spaced just over a micrometer apart that reflect a rapidly reciprocating beam of light. The space is filled with a liquid dye solution, which serves to cool down the photons. This is done by the dye molecules “swallowing” the photons and then spitting them out again, which brings the light particles to the temperature of the dye solution — equivalent to room temperature. Background: The system makes it
possible to cool light particles in the first place because their natural characteristic is to dissolve when cooled.
Clear Separation of Two Phases
Phase transition is what physicists call the transition between water and ice during freezing. But how does the particular phase transition occur within the system of trapped light particles? The scientists explain it this way: The somewhat translucent mirrors cause photons to be lost and replaced, creating a non-equilibrium that results
in the system not assuming a definite temperature and being set into oscillation. This creates a transition between this oscillating phase and a damped phase. Damped means that the amplitude of the vibration decreases. Lead author Fahri Emre Öztürk, a doctoral student at the Institute for Applied Physics at the University of Bonn, said:“The overdamped phase we observed corresponds to a new state of the light field, so to speak.” The special characteristic is that the effect of the laser is usually not separated from
that of Bose-Einstein condensate by a phase transition, and there is no sharply defined boundary between the two states. This means that physicists can continually move back and forth between effects. Study leader Prof. Dr. Martin Weitz said: “However, in our experiment, the overdamped state of the optical Bose-Einstein condensate is separated by a phase transition from both the oscillating state and a standard laser. This shows that there is a Bose-Einstein condensate, which is really a different state than the standard laser. “In other words, we are dealing with two separate phases of the optical BoseEinstein condensate.” The researchers plan to use their findings as a basis for further studies to search for new states of the light field in multiple coupled light condensates, which can also occur in the system. Fahri Emre Öztürk said: “If suitable quantum mechanically entangled states occur in coupled light condensates, this may be interesting for transmitting quantum-encrypted messages between multiple participants.”

1.Soak Jacket In a large tub of lukewarm water, add a gentle detergent and submerge the down jacket for approximately fifteen minutes. To get rid of any odors or stains, add a small bottle cap of white vinegar to your soak. After soaking, gently brush off any dirty spots with a soft bristle brush or a toothbrush so as not to cause damage to the fabric. Do not rub with your hands.
2.Rinse Jacket After brushing out the stains, submerge the down jacket in a tub of clean, cool water and press out the suds with both hands. Drain the soapy water and refill the tub with clean water and press out suds again. Repeat this rinsing process until there are no soapy suds left.
3.Dry Jacket After washing out the detergent, gently squeeze out excess water from the jacket's sleeves and body without wringing it. Keep doing this until the coat is no longer dripping wet. Place the garment in the dryer in a low heat setting, adding four dryer balls or tennis balls to fluff up the down feathers while drying. It will take two to three hours to dry thoroughly, depending on the weight of the coat.
4.Fluff Jacket Remove the jacket from the dryer every thirty minutes, and use your hands to fluff it up. The garment will be dry when it is fluffy and clump-free. To further fluff it up, lay the down jacket flat on a bed and lightly pat it with a coat hanger. Remember to pat all parts of the jacket gently.
5.Storing Jacket It's best to hang your clean jacket uncompressed, do not put it in a garment bag or plastic wrap as the jacket will lose its loft or fluffiness. You may cover the top of the garment to protect it from dust and sunlight. Your coat will stay clean and fresh for the next snowfall.
Don't be intimidated by the confusing washing label instructions in the jacket. After following these simple steps, your down jacket will be clean, fluffy, and good as new. Please try it!

Before baskets made of plastics and steel became popular, people did basket weaving with natural materials.
The Basics of
Traditional Basket Weaving By Vision Times Staff
W
hen choosing a natural material for baskets, flexibility is an important consideration. After all, if the material is brittle, you won’t be able to flex and twist it to create a basket. Traditional baskets are usually made from materials like willows, cane, bamboo, grasses, honeysuckle, reeds, and so on. Basket weaving is the process of turning such natural materials into baskets and can be taken up as a hobby in case you have some free time to explore new activities. Here is some basic info about the basket weaving process.
Tools
Soaking
As far as tools are concerned, you will need a sharp knife or scissors to cut and point the material, as well as some side cutters to chip off the ends. Round-nosed pliers can kink the stakes prior to bending them. This will be particularly handy when the angle has to be sharp. A bodkin is a tool that can be useful to make space between a woven work and for pushing rods into their place after making the necessary gaps. A rapping iron can help you push down the weaving rows.
1
There are three types of weaves that are traditionally used in baskets. The Basic Weave focuses on creating a sturdy base. The base might even be cut off from a single piece of wood. However, the most used method is by using materials that are similar to the rest of the basket. In the Basic Weave, the stakes are wrapped around in an over-one-underone pattern.
Before using stakes and weavers, they should be thoroughly soaked in water. This makes it easy to manipulate them. It also prevents the material from cracking or breaking off. Rods are usually kept in water for about half an hour before wrapping in a damp cloth for some time. Materials that will be used as stakes should be kept straight during the soaking process. However, weavers can be left coiled in the water. Even when you start constructing a basket, you might need to soak it in between.
Stakes & weavers Basket weaving involves working with two basic weights. One will be a heavy, thick material that will be used to create the stakes that will form the skeleton of the basket. You can even vary the thickness of the stakes. For instance, you can use a heavy material for the bottom and a lighter one for the sides. Whatever the difference in their thickness, they will definitely be thicker than the rods that will be used for weaving. These weaving rods make up the bulk of the basket and are called weavers.

The third technique is Coiling in which coils of grasses, pine needles, or reeds are stitched on top of one another. Softer materials are used to create the walls of the basket. This creates a rigid, tight basket and is a popular basket-weaving method of Native Americans.
The second method is called Twining. This is an advanced technique of basket-making and is also used in wickerwork. “It involves two pieces of round reed being twisted around a rigid spoke. The twining method involves weaving two materials in different directions. When basket makers twine, they put one reed behind the spoke and one in front of the spoke, with a twist in between,” according to Homestead.
When choosing a natural material for baskets, flexibility is an important consideration.

Optimum Energy Food:
Balancing Your Diet Through Yin and Yang By Emma Lu
For thousands of years, this symbol has been recognized as two opposing forces in the universe working in harmony to achieve balance.
A Japanese teacher George Ohsawa cured himself of so-called ‘incurable’ diseases at the age of 18 by eating a simple diet of brown rice, miso soup, and sea vegetables.
ccording to Chinese thinking, good food is considered good medicine, and traditional Chinese doctors have always utilized the power of food to cure or relieve illness. Only if a disease is very resistant will herbs and other healing methods be considered. Chinese philosophy breaks down food into yin and yang, combining the two for best effect. Yin foods tend to have a calming and cooling effect on the body, while yang foods warm and stimulate. Processed foods devoid of fiber and laden with additives, refined sugar, and salt are considered toxic and not beneficial in gaining nutrients.
If your energy is low and you are feeling tired, depressed, or sluggish, it makes sense to try these theories and increase yang foods. If you are stressed, anxious, over-excited, or angry, try the soothing yin foods.
If life is in balance and you feel pretty good, then it may be best to adapt your diet by observing the external environment. If you are in a cold, damp, or wet place, then the predominantly yang diet would be best. If it is hot and dry, then the yin diet would be more suitable. Macrobiotics, the practice of understanding the effect that food and lifestyle has on health, takes into consideration your individual health condition and physiology in relation to your geographical location and seasonal changes in climate. Japanese teacher George Ohsawa cured himself of so-called “incurable” diseases at the age of 18 by eating a simple diet of brown rice, miso soup, and sea vegetables. These foods are in the middle of the yin and yang spectrum. He then devoted his life to the study, which he named macrobiotics. The macrobiotic way of life encourages you to eat foods that are locally grown in season, and to avoid foods that are considered to be extremely yin or extremely yang. Ohsawa claimed that the modern diet of excess salt, refined sugar,
dairy products, processed foods, and red meat upsets the body’s yin/ yang balance, which in turn leads to disease. The body is always seeking balance, so if you eat an extreme yang food, such as meat or salty chips, your body will crave an extreme yin food, such as sugar or tropical fruits. The extremes affect not only physical health, but also mental health and behavior. Foods are also classified into five tastes — sour, bitter, sweet, pungent, and salty. A balanced meal is one where each of the tastes are met, yet in moderate measures. Sour can be found in pickles or lemon, bitter in parsley or sesame seeds, sweet in brown rice syrup or apple sauce, pungent in watercress or garlic, and salty in miso. The right combination of each should leave the eater feeling satisfied. In the case of illness, certain foods and tastes may be emphasized and others left out to regain harmony.
