welcome from Central Coast Council

It’s the mix of attractions that make the region so magnetic - a great dining scene and internationally renowned visitor attractions alongside the opportunity to go boating on our beautiful waterways, surf world-class beaches, explore national parks and bike or walk the many scenic paths that connect different villages. Each year the region offers new experiences too. BATO Yard is a world class skate park that all the family can enjoy for free and you can lose yourself for hours in the Gosford Classic Car Museum’s display of over 400 vintage and modern cars. The vibrant arts scene is thriving with boutique galleries, live music and two regional performing arts centres adding to what visitors can do. You can also find your own quiet spot for reflection and enjoyment. Ask a friendly local and they will share with you a local secret to make your visit really special. With so much on offer, I’m sure you can find more than one reason to spend an extra day or two to explore the Central Coast. Rob Noble Chief Executive Officer

acknowledgement of Country Central Coast Tourism acknowledges the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands of the New South Wales’ Central Coast. We pay our respects to past, present and future Elders, youth and community groups from across the region.

beaches and waterways the Central Coast by nature is a world of beautiful coastlines, golden beaches, alluring lakes and vast waterways

this sparkling natural asset, one way or another will become an integral part of your visit to the region and the core for creating lasting memories

fishing Dropping a line is popular for beginners and the more experienced of anglers. Anglers can try their luck from the banks of a river, in an estuary, cast out from one of the beaches or board a fishing charter for a deep sea adventure. N.B. Fishing licences are required in NSW.

boating Boating enthusiasts are catered for with a number of access ramps scattered around the waterways. Captain a vessel and navigate the waterways, or paddle around the shoreline at your own pace in a kayak, pedal-boat or on a stand up paddleboard. Refresh with a dip in the ocean at one of the seasonal patrolled beaches, paddle in a rock pool or wipe out at one of the local surf breaks. Ferries link selected inlets, lakes and the ocean providing a relaxing way to get around.

The Pines Picnic area is an iconic site known for its towering pine tree forest, remnants of trial plantings of different pine species established in the 1920s and 1930s. Campers have multiple options in this forest. The generous Casuarina Site accommodates caravans and trailers. The Turpentine Camping Area is suited to small groups. Large groups should consider the open grassy area of The Basin.

Ourimbah State Forest West of Wyong, Ourimbah State Forest is home to TreeTops, an adventure park like no other. Visitors of all ages flex their adventurous spirit while testing their mental and physical being across multiple courses comprising of over 100 elevated obstacles including rope ladders, wobbly bridges, tunnels, cargo-nets and zip lines. The forest is also a destination for mountain bike enthusiasts containing a challenging mountain biking track managed by Central Coast Mountain Biking Club.

local ambassadors Lachlan Tame and Riley Fitzsimmons Dating back as far as the 1930’s the Central Coast has been home to over 50 Olympians and Para Olympians encompassing a broad range of sports and pursuits. Lachlan Tame and Riley Fitzsimmons are two bronzed Aussies who reached the pinnacle of their sports, canoeing and kayaking by competing in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

35 • LOCAL AMBASSADORS

‘Nowhere else can you find a perfect training spot for our sports, than Avoca Beach with the headland protecting the water from the mighty southerly. We shouldn’t be giving away our training secrets’ quipped the bronzed Aussie’s ‘but, we can train for the long distances by paddling in the Brisbane Water as well as challenging ourselves in the ocean waves. We have been training together for what seems like forever!’ ‘There is a bit of an age difference between us and Riley used to chase me in the early days, before I caved and started training him’ taunted Tame. Out of the water you may spot the boys in one of the local haunts, secretly they are quite the coffee connoisseurs - ‘if you don’t find the bean flavour you are craving in one café, there are probably nine others within a short distance like Avoca, Terrigal, Wamberal or Long Jetty who will have the right bean.’ Tame and Fitzsimmons are members of Surf Life Saving. Learn more about Surf Life Saving Central Coast: www.slscc.com.au

Angus Stewart I have been lucky enough to grow up on the Central Coast where my early years were filled with adventures on the beach and in the bush. It is one of the most unique and biodiverse areas of the world, filled with Waratahs, Flannel Flowers, Christmas Bells and the amazing Giant Spear Lily. As a professional horticulturist, it has been a pleasure to see the development of a thriving food scene through farmers markets, cafés and restaurants springing up around the area to showcase the best the Central Coast has to offer. I am honoured to be an ambassador for my home area.

Long Jetty, Long Jetty Measuring just over 350 metres long, stretching out into the waters of Tuggerah Lake, this local landmark has been a part of holiday memories for generations. Celebrating its centenary in 2016, originally built as a passenger access port, today people enjoy a stroll along the jetty, refer to it as a positioning point along the shared pathway. Long Jetty and the surrounding suburb have long been a popular backdrop for a happy snap - like this quaint honeymoon photograph courtesy of Ern and Mavis Webber circ 1936.
