FALL IN LOVE

Why is autumn so awesome? Let us count the ways.

In Central Oregon, autumn’s arrival is both a welcome reprieve from the heat of the summer and the early sign that winter is right around the corner.

HAUNTED HISTORY COMES TO LIFE

It’s an odd time when many of us here desperately try to hold on to some semblance of summer while our loved ones are across the room doing a snow dance. We’re seasonally conflicted.

Bend has a rich history - and

FARMERS MARKET DATES/TIMES

WALK THE MARKET WITH A LOCAL CHEF

FARMERS MARKET FAREWELL THE SEASON OF BOUNTY DRAWS TO A CLOSE Central Oregon is lucky to have a bevy of farmers markets all over the region all summer long – all of which showcase the very diverse produce offerings many folks might not realize can be grown here. But before you know it, they'll be gone for another year. Beyond fruits and produce, the Central Oregon farmers markets feature locally raised and butchered beef, chicken and pork along with eggs, soap and more. Many of the markets offer live music, giving it a more “festival” atmosphere and some even have guest chefs doing cooking classes or talking about how to make amazing dishes with what you’re buying. There's nothing more local than meeting the makers that help a community thrive.

DESTINATION

MAUPIN IS AND THE FISHIN'S GOOD. Real

Good.

Maupin is a friendly rural town on the banks of the Lower Deschutes River that twists through basalt canyons 700 to 2,200 feet deep. A hub for whitewater rafters in the summer and steelhead anglers in the fall, this is a place you can step off the beaten path and experience solitude, starry skies, and some of the best steelhead fishing in Oregon. And it's just about an hour and a half from Bend.(CONT)

DESTINATION

For many, your first steelhead is one of the most memorable. Your reel will spin violently and you’ll fumble to gain control. Thankfully in Central Oregon you can experience this from September through November, a prime time to hook into a zealous, acrobatic fish of a thousand cast. Steelhead move upriver and can be found along the Lower Deschutes River Back Country Byway anytime between late August to November. With recent forest fires nearby, people are wondering if it’s safe to come to Maupin. It is safe. Businesses and outfitters are open and steelhead have not been affected by the fire. What's more, campgrounds around Maupin and North of Shears Falls to Mack Canyon on the Lower Deschutes Access Road were not impacted and are open. There is burned vegetation along the river from Shears Bridge down river but new vegetation and grass are already sprouting back. (CONT)

DESTINATION

VISIT MAUPIN FISH WITH A GUIDE IMPERIAL RIVER CO.

Relax after your day on the water at Imperial River Co. - Maupin's finest hotel. It features 25 guest rooms, a quarter mile of riverfront property, private dock, restaurant and bar. They also run whitewater rafting trips right from the hotel. If you enjoy camping then stay at one of the 18 public land campgrounds maintained by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) located along the Lower Deschutes River Back Country Byway or Deschutes River Access Road. While no-one can guarantee you a fish, the chances are never good if your line isn’t in the water. Your best chance of catching a steelhead is time on the water and now is the time to pack your bags and book a trip.

Fall - In Love EXPERIENCE AUTUMN IN CENTRAL OREGON When summer ends, a whole new season of opportunity begins: Autumn in Central Oregon. The pace slows giving time to reflect and savor mother nature’s big show. During fall on the High Desert, you can stroll through Aspen Tree groves lit up like the last seconds of a fleeting sunset. Or hike to the top of a mountain for a panoramic view that will make you remember what it feels like to truly be alive. Around Central Oregon, we cherish the different seasons, because it refocuses our views of and love for the same spectacular spots. Slip down the Deschutes River during the fall and you’ll have it all to yourself. Hop on a horse and go for a trot through unmanicured forests full of life altering moments of peace and quiet. Or hike to a waterfall like Paulina Falls where the rush of crystal clear water cascading over cliffs will ignite your senses. The best part about adventuring on crisp fall days is warming up by the fire, craft beer in hand and with 29 breweries and counting spread out across Central Oregon, you won’t have any problem finding the perfect spot to reminisce about your experience.
