IN THIS ISSUE The shoulder season is one of the best-worst-kept secrets in Central Oregon. It’s the time of year when you could ski fresh powder in the morning, then squeeze in a bike ride in the afternoon. Late winter and early spring is the perfect time to visit Central Oregon. RIFF COLD BREWED COFFEE The cold brew coffee revolution isn’t just happening in Central Oregon, it’s at the center of it. One of the newest additions to Bend’s burgeoning Box Factory district is Riff Cold Brewed Coffee, a taproom unlike anything the town has seen before. The founders of Riff (the same people who started Crux Fermentation Project years ago) bet on cold brewed coffee being the next hot beverage trend, and the bet paid off. You can already find bottles of Riff in one-of-a-kind recipes and flavors on local grocery store shelves. Now, the Riff Taproom recently opened. Try out their different cold brew recipes as well as a menu of bowls, sandwiches, salads and more. Stop in for a midmorning pick-me-up and try out this newest venture in Central Oregon’s beverage industry.
BONEYARD BREWING After more than a decade brewing beer, Boneyard—particularly its RPM—is still one of the most popular breweries around town, with a cult following beyond Oregon. Boneyard is known for its experimental beer that appeals to masses. Favorites like Skin N Bones, Hop a Wheelie, Bonafide and Femme Fatale drink as well on their own as they do with food. And speaking of, the renegade brewery opened a pub last year that is often packed to the edges with people. The menu differs from your standard pub fare as well, with a fusion-style of cuisine that was made to complement its brews. The pub has a casual atmosphere that allows for large groups of people to drink, eat and

hang out for a while.
BENDISTILLERY/CRATER LAKE SPIRITS When it comes to spirits, Central Oregon is in no short supply. A handful of artisan libation-makers have come onto the scene in the last decade and produced spirits that have stocked the shelves of local bars and homes. In between Sisters and Tumalo, Bendistillery is one of the spirits trailblazers in the region. Its variety of light and dark liquors have won over many locals and visitors. The distillery also collaborates with local breweries. The annual release of Black Butte Porter Whiskey, a bottle that’s awaited with anticipation and sells out within minutes, is a collaboration with Deschutes Brewery. The distillery also has a tasting room in downtown Bend. With the feel of an urban speakeasy, visitors can get a taste of the liquors and learn how to mix them into delicious and one-of-a-kind cocktails.

Spring Cycling Routes
IT'S NEVER TOO EARLY to grease your bike gears and start planning your spring cycling trips. This year, make a point to check out one of the newest additions to Oregon’s Scenic Bikeway routes, the Crooked River Canyon Scenic Bikeway. Passing towering cliffs and following the stunning Crooked River, the scenic bikeway route will bring cyclists to remote areas of Central Oregon. It’s an out-and-back route that begins and ends in the heart of Prineville. When you’re done with your ride, reward yourself with a local beer and bite at one of the new breweries that have recently popped up in the town.

Discover inspiring experiences at the High Desert Museum. Late winter and early spring in Central Oregon can offer a little bit of everything when it comes to the weather. Getting out of the house on the weekend is always a good idea. If you're looking for a place to spend an afternoon that the whole family will enjoy, visit the High Desert Museum. It’s a museum that explores the cultural and natural history of the West. There are three rotating exhibits to check out, including exceptional art and fascinating wildlife like the otters that captured the attention of the kiddos in the photo below.

WHO KNEW THAT A TRIP to the local grocery store could also become a chance to view local art? Newport Market, an employee-owned specialty grocery store on the west side of Bend, commissioned local artist Kim Smallenberg to paint the wall of the building facing 12th Street. The result is a love letter to Bend designed to bring joy and perhaps a smile on faces as

they pass by. It includes breweries, Pilot Butte, Mt. Bachelor, the Tower Theatre and more. “We wanted to bring a little joy to our corner of the world, and to give people a reason to smile,” said Newport Market CEO Lauren Johnson. “We gave her a broad canvas, literally and figuratively, to use her talents to help us celebrate all the things we love about Bend.” Watch the video to learn more about this colorful addition to Bend’s west side.

TOWN: Prineville WHERE: Crooked River Brewing Co. LATE LAST YEAR, A NEW MURAL popped up in Prineville. Part of Travel Oregon’s “Oregon: Only Slightly Exaggerated” campaign, the mural is painted on side of Crooked River Brewing Co. Oregon’s travel arm commissioned seven of these murals to be painted in towns around the state—other locations include The Dalles, Yachats, Roseburg, Forest Grove, Ontario and Oakridge. Visit Prineville to see the new mural. The mural depicts a scene inspired by the nearby Ochoco National Forest, along with some majestic creatures found among the clouds. The phrase "Oregon is Magic" is painted over the top, and we wholeheartedly agree.
