On behalf of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center, I am pleased to share with you this booklet filled with maps and information about the walking paths in Dubois County. As you’ll see, we have oppor tunities for outdoor exercise no matter where we live or work. With the increased awareness of the impor tance of physical activity on a daily basis, this booklet is sure to be ver y helpful to those who are looking for outdoor areas to explore while getting exercise .
By the way, how much exercise do we need on a daily basis? According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), children and adolescents need at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day. This should include a combination of aerobic as well as muscle and bone strengthening activities Adults need 2 hours and 30 minutes (150 minutes) of moderate-intensity aerobic activity such as brisk walking every week along with muscle-strengthening activities 2 or more days per week. For more specific infor mation about the CDC’s recommendations, visit their website at www.cdc.gov/physicalactivity/everyone/guidelines/index.html.
As noted by the CDC, it’s optimal to be active each day of the week, and it’s perfectly fine to get your exercise in smaller increments as long as you’re moderately active for a minimum of 10 minutes at a time One idea to consider is taking a 10-minute walk in the mor ning, after noon, and evening at least five days each week, which will give you 150 minutes of exercise
By the way, if you haven’t exercised much lately, star t slow -but at least get star ted! You’ll find that the more you move, the easier it is to get moving and the better you’ll feel You can add a few minutes of physical activity each day, and before long you’ll achieve 150 minutes or more of exercise each week
A special note of thanks goes to Rachel Steckler, Carla Hall, and Woods Printing Company for assistance with this project, and to Dubois County Community Foundation, Patoka Valley Health Care Cooperative, and Dubois County Tourism Commission for providing financial suppor t.
Best wishes for a great walk!!
