UPTOWN DISTRICT

Nestled between the Tar River and East Carolina University’s main campus, UPTOWN is the vibrant center of the city. The traditional Greenville Commercial Historic District as listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Uptown has experienced a cultural and commercial renaissance in the last few years and now boasts a vibrant art, live music, and food scene, and nightlife offering several breweries, roof-top bars, and hidden hideaways. People are drawn to the heart of Greenville, with tech businesses, boutiques, and salons, along with seasonal weekly Uptown events throughout the year at Five Points Plaza celebrating everything from ECU Pirate Football culture to Eastern NC farmers and makers bringing feet to the streets making Uptown Greenville a thriving destination to live, work, and play! A short walk from Five Points Plaza and still part of Uptown, but with it’s own eclectic vibe is the Dickinson Avenue District. Designated as the Dickinson Avenue Historic District in the National Register of Historic Places in 2007 due to its industrial past, Dickinson Avenue is currently experiencing a revitalization into an eclectic hub of artistic energy and creative activity in our center city. Local makers and entrepreneurial spirits are flocking to Dickinson and turning out inspirational work at several art galleries, studios, and museums, as well as craft breweries, modern farm-to-table restaurants, a scratch-made, customized waffles shop, and a Neapolitan-style pizza cafe! Several venues offer live music, along with outdoor dining, drinking, and dog-friendly patios with excellent evening views of Dickinson Avenue for people and progress watching as the district continues to grow!
