M4 STUDIOS AND OUTDOOR POTTERY TRAIL
Artisans & Crafters
The perfect places to see, experience (and purchase!) some of the most exquisite art works produced in the Mid Atlantic include Gifts Inn Boonsboro , and the Washington County Arts Council Gallery and Gift Shop . There is an annual tour of the Valley Craft Network held by local artists the first Saturday after Thanksgiving. Maps of the tour are available on our website.
Community Theater
Our area offers some of the very best in local theater! Dinner and a play at the legendary Washington County Playhouse make for a delightful evening where your servers are also the stars of the evening’s performance! The Authentic Community Theatre presents some amazing shows at their Black Box Theatre , and at the beautiful historic Maryland Theatre and Performing Arts Center . ACT exists to both explore and encourage the application of the arts as a catalyst towards responsible social change and enhanced community cohesion. Our farming legacy is on display at the Rural Heritage Museum with exhibits about farm life in the early 1900s. See an authentic cobbler’s shop, doctor’s office, and antique farm implements that were used during a time when life was simpler, but also required some formidable resilience!
Flavors of Washington County
All of our locally owned restaurants feature amazing cuisine. New this year is Bistro 11 , with a most excellent grilled cauliflower steak. Other local favorites include the Schmankerl Stube , serving up Bavarian cuisine and is a favorite destination restaurant in the Mid Atlantic.
Grapes & Grains
The Antietam Highlands Wine Trail features many award-winning wines, with wineries that are set in the pastoral settings of the Allegheny Mountains. Their vistas will take your breath away, and the varietals of wines offered will please all palates. In the winter, reserve an igloo at Red Heifer Winery , or make your own wine or beer at Blue Mountain Boutique Winery . Breweries and brew-pubs are sprouting up everywhere! Antietam Brewery expanded their site in Hagerstown, and Home Maide Brewery opened next to Cushwa Brewery in Williamsport. Both offer award-winning, locally crafted brews, lots of evening entertainment, snacks and/or food trucks every weekend. Meinelschmidt Distillery , the first of its kind, opened in 2020, produces high-quality whiskeys, bourbons and vodkas. There is a chess board for those who like the challenge, and various events throughout the year.
