Inspiration for Autumn Need some inspiration for a day out this Autumn with friends and family? Look no further.
Autumn Wa lks Autumn is a time of wonder when our Island’s landscapes turn into a kaleidoscope of colours and numerous wildlife experiences. Now is the time to wrap up warm and explore the wonderful glens, reservoirs, coastlines and countryside right on our doorstep. We’ve highlighted just a few of these magical Autumnal walks below...
Gl en May e
• Glen Maye to Glen Wyllin (14.7km) - A spectacular bridged gorge and waterfall dominate this walk. Its beautiful sheltered, fern-filled woodland includes some relics of the ancient forests that once covered Mann. • Glen Mooar and Glen Wyllin to Bishopscourt (3.5km) Two beautiful glens, a disused Victorian railway line, an ancient site, a nature reserve and one of the Island’s tallest waterfalls. What more could you want from a short walk? • Dhoon Glen to Laxey Glen (7.7km) - Dhoon Glen, known for its natural and rugged beauty; the waterfall present half way down the valley is referred to as the Inneen Vooar or Big Girl, and is one of the highest falling waterfalls on the Island.
Dhoon Glen
• Laxey Glen to Injebreck (19.4km) - Laxey Glen is rich in mature exotic trees and natural woodland, and also now includes the recently renovated Laxey Glen restaurant. Picturesque Injebreck Reservoir is actually located on the site of an old village, the remains of which can be seen when the water levels are very low!
Hop Tu Naa Haunts The Isle of Man is rich in history… and steeped in legend. Stories from the great beyond are abundant and, with Hop Tu Naa just around the corner, we couldn’t think of a better time of year to tell them – and for you to explore them! • Seat B14 at the Gaiety Theatre - The lady in seat B14, the Gaiety’s Ho p Tu Naa Ha unt s most famous ghost, looks more like a friendly grandma than an otherworldly being - until she disappears! Do you dare to book seat B14? • Castle Mona – Built in 1804, the castle which was recently sold at auction, is home to many ghosts, including Room 212, haunted by two little girls who reportedly stood at the end of guests’ beds; a scene that could be right out of The Shining! • The Witch Cries at Slieau Whallian Hill - In centuries past, women charged with witchcraft were brought to Slieau Whallian Hill in St. John’s to decide their guilt – many perished at the site, and to this day, people report hearing ‘witch’s cries’. • Peel Castle’s Moddey Dhoo - Soldiers and guards have long been aware of the Moddey Dhoo, a large black apparition in the shape of a dog who prowled the lands of Peel Castle – some say, he still does!
