Find out if you’ve got what it takes to master a Segway. These quirky electric machines are used around the world but are rarely seen in the UK. In theory, they are simple to control with users leaning forwards to reach top speed and back to slow down, whilst also steering left and right. Gyroscopic technology adjusts with every lean, responding flawlessly to the user. In reality, they require a combination of natural balance and practice to glide seamlessly around a complex course at top speed. See if you can leave your mark and break the course record.

Take on a unique vertical challenge as you ascend high into the canopy of a magnificent oak tree. A test for both mind and body, a climb into the canopy of a 70 ft mature oak tree using rope and harness is an experience few are lucky enough to encounter. Tree climbing doesn’t have to be a fast paced adventure, but it will push your skills and nerve in an entirely new way. Experience canopy life, stand on branches no bigger than your wrist and swing out between the boughs. There’s even the opportunity for hanging upside down suspended by your rope – 20 feet in the air! Or simply take the opportunity to relax in a tree top hammock and absorb the stunning birds eye views over the Solent and towards the south coast. Whichever ever way you choose to experience it, scaling trees on the Isle of Wight will be unlike any climbing you’ve done before!

Tackle the most rugged of the Isle of Wight’s seaside landscape on a coasteering adventure, where the aim is to make it around the headland with nothing more than a lifejacket, a helmet and your own initiative. Scrabble around jagged cliff edges, dive through partially submerged caves and emerge onto an isolated beach once used by smugglers. Those who dare will leap into the sea from a rocky ledge, sharing cliff space with gulls and cormorants. This is not an adventure to attempt alone, but with the right equipment and experts who understand the tides, it’s a thrilling experience.

Reach speeds of nearly fifty miles per hour whilst only centimetres from the floor in a 270cc high speed kart. These small but mighty machines have been the training vehicles for many future Formula One drivers, due to their ability to recreate higher speed racing conditions. Whether or not you are a petrolhead, you will soon find yourself conquering corners confidently and jostling for position with fellow racers. Smooth driving is the key, slowing into corners and flooring the gas as you exit. The Isle of Wight’s track is about half a kilometre long and is open whatever the weather. Race as a group or an individual. Drivers (aged 8 to 88 years) are kitted out in full racing gear and given lap-time printouts to argue over on the way home.

Strap up and hold on tight for mountain boarding, which first developed in the nineties as an off-season alternative to winter sports and now competes as a sport in its own right. Boarders are in for an extreme journey, with the speed of snowboarding but with added bumps and a harder landing following the inevitable wipeouts. Learn to control the ride by steering with your hips and keeping shoulders in line with the board. After a bit of practice, and a few brutal bruises, you will be landing jumps and joining the few people who can call themselves mountain boarders.
