Cofo Civil Rights Education Center

Established in 1961, the Council of Federated Organizations (COFO) unified the efforts of civil rights organizations in Mississippi, including SNCC, CORE, SCLC, the NAACP and other groups. Focused on voter registration and education, COFO organized the 1963 Freedom Vote, the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party and the 1964 Freedom Summer project. Reopened by JSU in 2011, the Center challenges and empowers visitors, cultivates young minds and develops future leaders.
The District At Eastover

Welty, born in 1909, was a writer of international acclaim. Her home is a National Historic Landmark and one of the most intact literary homes in the country. The garden is beautifully reconstructed to the 1925-1945 period.

The district is made up of residences and diverse businesses and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The district includes over 690 listings in the National Register of Historic Places. There are vernacular architectural examples representing craftsmanship skills of numerous African American building contractors.
