Our City, Villages ... Nestled along the shores of Lake Michigan and less than an hour from both Chicago and Milwaukee, the City of Kenosha is right in the middle of opportunity. Residents enjoy the small town charm and a Lake Michigan lifestyle with easy access to big city assets and world-class amenities. Numerous unique and extraordinary cultural amenities include a variety of museums, a vibrant arts community, and an electric streetcar system with seven vintage streetcars. Explore the Kenosha Public Museum, with rotating displays of artwork and a permanent exhibit featuring the mammoths excavated in Kenosha County. The Civil War Museum takes visitors back in history to the social politics and economic influences that contributed to the Civil War. The Dinosaur Discovery Museum, located in the historic Civic Center district, is only a short ride away on the city’s electric streetcar. Dramatic life-size dinosaur replica casts make up the largest collection of meat-eating dinosaurs. The warmer months in Kenosha are filled with outdoor concerts, festivals, art fairs and historic re-enactments. The popular Kenosha HarborMarket downtown on Saturdays draws crowds seeking organic produce, arts, live entertainment and more. Book a charter fishing excursion and hook your own fresh catch of the day. Miles of beaches and lakefront parks offer opportunities for picnics, kite flying or just watching the waves. Keith G. Bosman Mayor

Year after year, you’re always welcome in the Village of Pleasant Prairie. Whether you’re looking for a daytrip destination or a new place to call home, you’ll find Pleasant Prairie to be a warm and welcoming community with many life-friendly amenities. Visitors and locals alike enjoy year-round outdoor shopping at Pleasant Prairie Premium Outlets and tours at the Pleasant Prairie Jelly Belly Center. Just down the road, nestled inside of a 930-acre park with inviting nature trails, a spring-fed lake and a sandy beach, you’ll encounter RecPlex, a world-class fitness, sport and lifestyle center. Each year, RecPlex and Prairie Springs Park become a hot spot for large triathlon events, 5K walk/runs, competitive swimming, hockey and figure skating events, and even indoor swimming, ice skating and fieldhouse play. During warmer weather, guests here enjoy wind surfing, boating, playing on our sandy beach, and a host of summer events that take place in the park. Fine art lovers will enjoy a trip to the Seebeck Gallery to browse their diverse collection of fine art and custom crafts from local, regional and national artists. Nature lovers will revel in the peaceful beauty of the Chiwaukee Prairie and the shores of Lake Michigan. Chiwaukee Prairie is a National Natural Landmark near the lakeshore and is home to more than 400 native plant species and other wildlife. Pleasant Prairie is an engaging community that strives to balance new growth with a special respect for the past and the natural gifts that define the area. All of us here in the Village invite you for a visit to experience Pleasant Prairie for yourself and to learn why Pleasant Prairie is a great place to live, work and play. ... and Town THE VILLAGE OF BRISTOL has a unique, natural atmosphere setting it apart from other Wisconsin communities. Experience our beautiful lakes, rolling farmlands and welcoming communities, which have retained the charm of an earlier era. An ideal location for you and your family, you’ll enjoy a small town feel with urban conveniences in nearby Kenosha, Milwaukee and Chicago. Bristol also boasts its own commercial district on the west side of I-94 as well as a centrally located 70-acre business park that creates the synergy. Savor the fruits of our local farmers’ labor at our Farmers Market, May through October on Wednesdays from 2 to 6 p.m. in Village Park. And don’t miss our monthly Antique Car Shows on select Monday nights during the summer. Get back to nature at the 189-acre Bristol Woods Park, featuring over four miles of scenic hiking trails and free programs at the Pringle Nature Center. Be sure to visit the area’s unique antique shops as well! Be transported to another time and place at the Bristol Renaissance Faire. This enchanting festival offers you a unique chance to step back 400 years in time and walk straight into the streets of a 29-acre 16th Century Elizabethan village. Bristol is also horse country. Increasingly known as one of the region’s most popular equestrian communities, Bristol is home to many horse farms competition facilities, and equestrian disciplines. A relaxing country drive reveals stunning horse farms and lovely equestrian estates. Riders from all over the region come to Bristol to participate in horse sports, or just “horse around.” The Village of Bristol ... the ideal place to live and visit ... naturally! Mike Farrell Village President Organized in 1842, THE TOWN OF WHEATLAND, located on the western end of Kenosha County is 24 square miles in size and includes the unincorporated communities of New Munster, Slades Corners, Wheatland, Powers Lake and Lily Lake and many smaller subdivisions. Our area’s two lakes, Lily Lake and Powers Lake, offer swimming, boating and fishing opportunities. The scenic Fox River is a landmark in our community, traveling in a north-south direction through the eastern part of the town. Wheatland is also home to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources New Munster Wildlife Area, which encompasses 1,048 acres and permits seasonal hunting. Camp Oh-Da-Ko-Ta, owned by the Boy Scouts of America, and located on the western edge of the town, has enabled several generations of Boy Scouts to participate in camping and outdoor activities. The Seno Woodland Education Center, a 131-acre forestry learning center also located in the western part of the town, is dedicated to forestry education and research. Owned and managed by the WWOA Foundation, Inc., there are many nature programs offered. Our farming community is gradually evolving into a residential community. We welcome visitors and new residents! William M. Glembocki Town Chairperson

From Charter Boats to Fishing Piers

KENOSHA IS A GREAT CATCH!

M

en, women and children alike can enjoy a fishing trip in the Kenosha Area. Regardless of it being your first time fishing or your millionth time casting a line, there is a great fishing experience waiting for you here. And there’s an option for every budget, too!

Lake Michigan Adventure If you’re looking for a Great Lakes adventure, charter boat fishing excursions on Lake Michigan are a great way to spend a half-day or full day. Morning trips include unforgettable views of the sunrise over the lake as a bonus. All fishing equipment is provided for you, and depending on how much you want to do (or not do), the captains will help you bait your lines, reel in your catch, and even clean and fillet your fish for you. If you have your own boat, Kenosha boasts two marinas and a wonderful public launch site on Simmons Island — complete with a fish cleaning station.

Calmer Waters If smaller waters are more your style, large mouth, small mouth, crappie, trout, muskie, northern, and many pan-fish can be found in Kenosha County’s inland lakes. Fishing piers and shore fishing are available at these locations, and small boats are allowed in most. Bundle up and try your luck at ice fishing in the winter months for a new adventure!

Dip Your Toes OR GO ALL IN!

—Experience—

LAKE MICHIGAN

O

ne of Kenosha’s most popular features is its wide open access to Lake Michigan. Nearly 90 percent of Kenosha County’s shoreline is publicly accessible and miles of shoreline connect beaches, parks, bike paths, marinas and festival places. Our shoreline also features multiple access points on the Lake Michigan State Water Trail, a 523-mile segment of continuous water route along the Lake Michigan Coast that’s groomed for kayaking, paddle-boarding and other silent water sports. So kick off your shoes and dip your toes — or go all in — the water’s fine here in Kenosha!

Welcome to the Kenosha Area! Here at Soon’s Sushi Café we take great pride in being locally owned and operated and still being named #1 Sushi in Southeastern Wisconsin. Like us, many other restaurants in our community are also independent establishments, and we all value our relationships with customers. Trying “local places” can be intimidating, but it’s part of the fun when traveling! We strive to make everyone feel at home here and in the Kenosha Area. Robert & Soon Noel Owners, Soon’s Sushi Café

Kenosha is for

FOODIES ne of the things that makes Kenosha a unique foodie destination is the abundance of locally owned and operated restaurants — many of which have been in business for more than 50 years. Longevity aside, even the newer establishments are making a name for themselves by serving up delicious eats that can only be found in Kenosha.

makes your tummy happy. Franks Diner is as casual as it gets — they may even ask you to pour your own coffee, but it’s worth it when you get to enjoy a signature Garbage Plate breakfast. If you don’t know about the Garbage Plates, just look for them on an episode of Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives.

Casual Dining

Looking for an upscale dining experience? Twisted Cuisine boasts a casual dining atmosphere with a fine dining menu — but always with a twist. Their playful combinations and seasonal menus offer ever-changing dining experiences. Authentic Wisconsin supper clubs are not scarce in our area — Hobnob Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge and Ray Radigan’s have been serving Kenosha for well more than 50 years. Hobnob offers beautiful views of Lake Michigan and retro circular booths. Radigan’s still offers relish trays, a supper club staple! If modern flare is more your style, Wine Knot Bar & Bistro and Sazzy B fit the bill, with extensive wine lists and contemporary atmospheres.

O

No need to dress up for a good meal. You’ll find casual comfort food at its best here. The Famous Hot Beef Sandwiches at tg’s Restaurant and Pub are sure to please — but we suggest using a knife and fork for these soakies. John and Bobby Kennedy, Hubert Humphrey and other sports legends have all enjoyed a bite at this pub. Comfort food is what you can expect from the homemade specials at The Coffee Pot — this diner rocks breakfast, but their lunch specials rival grandma’s cookin’. From meatloaf to chicken cordon bleu and everything in between, you’ll find something that

Ethnic Dining Wisconsin is known for its rich German heritage, and while Kenosha tends to lean toward an Italian influence, House of Gerhard brings the oom-pah to the culinary landscape. Savor traditional German cuisine such as rouladen and schnitzel, as well as more Americanized dishes like their famous prime rib! Soon’s Sushi Café has been named the #1 sushi restaurant in Southeastern Wisconsin five years in a row by the WISN A-List. Here you’ll enjoy authentic sushi, Korean and Japanese cuisine — and it’s all beautiful! Take a trip south of the border at La Fogata Mexican Grill. “Killer” margaritas and nearly a dozen different taco-filling options will make your visit feel like a real fiesta!

Food Challenge Compare pizzas! Mangia Wine Bar offers wood-burning rustic-style pizza, Kaiser’s Pizza & Pub dishes out deep dish ‘za as well as specialty combinations, and Casa Capri epitomizes traditional “Kenoshastyle” pizza — cut in squares! 2 0 1 5

enosha’s Lake Michigan shoreline provides an appropriately beautiful backdrop for an array of public art. Enjoy a stroll through the Kenosha Sculpture Walk in HarborPark, which runs along the harbor and features nearly a dozen inspiring works of art for all to enjoy. Additional public art pieces can be found throughout HarborPark, including a bronze Christopher Columbus fountain. The Place de Douai, near the Kenosha Public Museum, contains the Wallace Fountain and a towering clock. The fountain was donated by the citizens of Douai, France, a sister city of Kenosha. The clock was donated by The Kiwanis Club of Kenosha. Meanwhile, two statues sit in Kenosha’s historic Library Park: a bronze statue of Abraham Lincoln and the Kenosha County Soldiers’ Monument “Winged Victory.” Don’t miss the Miniature Statue of Liberty inside the Kenosha History Center!

Music to Your Ears! FREE SUMMER CONCERTS ABOUND IN

KENOSHA!

he Kenosha Area knows how to throw a great outdoor concert, whether country, jazz, blues, or nearly any other style! Numerous concert series and festivals, and single-day music events are held at various Kenosha venues throughout the summer months. Here are four FREE outdoor concert series you can check out:

T

Also held at the Sesquicentennial Bandshell is the Tuesday at the Shell concert series. The concerts take place on Tuesday evenings, July 7 through Aug. 25. Music genres vary, with acts playing covers and original music. The lineup is selected from the membership of the local nonprofit Musicians Assisting Advancing Musicians.

Don’t miss the very popular Twilight Jazz outdoor concert series, with Lake Michigan as the backdrop. Concerts are held on the grounds of Anderson Arts Center on select Tuesday evenings throughout the summer.

The Peanut Butter & Jam Concert Series kicks off its 14th season of free concerts on July 9. Two concerts are held each Thursday through Aug. 27 at Veterans Memorial Park. Each year, a variety of regional and even national music acts perform. Crystal Bowersox of American Idol fame appeared at the 2014 edition of the series. The event is held along Kenosha’s Electric Streetcar line, with Kenosha’s harbor, the Veterans Memorial Fountain and the Lone Soldier Memorial serving as a backdrop.

This year marks the 93rd season for the Kenosha Pops Concert Band. With a different theme each week, the concerts are held from mid-June to early August on Wednesday evenings at the Sesquicentennial Bandshell beside Lake Michigan.
