Map Ref: Leeds City Map G4 Situated in the heart of Leeds and showcasing international talent, Opera North is England’s award-winning national opera company. Vibrant and vivacious, the company prides itself on a fresh approach to opera. Also programming its own performance space in Leeds, the Howard Assembly Room, the company brings the most exciting musicians, performers, writers and film together in the North of England. The year begins with two of the greatest of Italian operas: Bellini’s Norma and Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. Brimming with glorious melodies, spellbinding arias and achingly beautiful duets, Norma’s famous ‘Casta Diva’ was made legendary by Maria Callas and Joan Sutherland. Madama Butterfly is one of the world’s best loved operas, with a heartbreaking story of love and betrayal, exquisite set and costumes, and rapturous music which has become universally popular outside the opera house.
May 2012 sees a major new production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s great classic Carousel. Voted Best Musical of the 20th century by Time Magazine, it features some of the most powerfully moving songs ever written for the stage, including the immortal ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, ‘If I Loved You’ and the joyful ‘June Is Bustin’ Out All Over’. In June 2012, the company performs the second part of its critically acclaimed Ring Cycle, Wagner’s Die Walküre. Located within walking distance of shops, supermarkets and all amenities, this detached house stands within its own gardens and private car park and is divided into two self-contained apartments, providing accommodation only two-and-a-half miles from Leeds city centre.
The address is within easy reach of Headingley Carnegie Stadium, Leeds United FC, Leeds General Infirmary, St James’s Hospital, Yorkshire Television, Leeds University, The Royal Armouries, and Leeds Bradford International Airport. The centre of Bradford is only nine miles away.
The ground floor apartment sleeps two persons in one double bedroom, whilst the maisonette above sleeps five persons in three bedrooms.
Our type of accommodation is recommended because unlike hotels and guest houses, these apartments have the advantage of being self-contained and private, and are virtually a home from home. The Tops was established in 1980 and is open all year.
Each unit has its own lounge with colour TV and DVD player, bathroom with bath and shower, full gas central heating, a fully-equipped kitchen including laundry and ironing facilities and all bedding and bed sheets are provided.
