Allocated to Sports Activities The Malta Tourism Authority is committed to support Sport Events Tourism Operators when confirming tourism and business to the Maltese Islands. This scheme is targeted towards companies whose area of business is specifically Sport Events Tourism.

01. Introduction
This scheme offers a contribution towards tourists visiting the Maltese Islands for Sport Events in 2021/2022. The purpose of the visit should be solely Sport Events oriented. 1.1. Duration of the Scheme The scheme targets Sport Events related travel over a one year period starting from July 2021 until funds are available. 1.2. Designated Authority This scheme is administered by the Malta Tourism Authority. 1.3. Budget This scheme has a budget of €1.5 million. The support shall be provided on a post event basis and on submission of supporting documents stipulated in the scheme’s Terms & Conditions. The scheme can provide funding on a maximum of 15,000 attendees.
02. Terms of Reference For the intents and purposes of this document, the word applicant/s refers to events organisations and the word intermediary refers to companies.
03. Terms & Conditions 3.1. The support is capped to a maximum of 1,000 foreing participants per event. Support is payable to one applicant only once for the same event. 3.2. The scheme targets Sport Events related travel over a one year period starting from July 2021 until funds are available. 3.3. The allocation of €100 per participant (subject to a minimum of 3 nights in Malta or Gozo) will be given to the organiser. 3.4. The participant will be required to adhere by the regulations set by the Superintendent of Public Health and the Health Authorities at the time of application submission. The applicant or intermediary would be required to present any necessary documentation. 3.5. Unutilised funds cannot be carried forward to subsequent year. (ie 2022/2023) 3.6. This scheme is for foreign participants not residing in Malta or Gozo and who have travelled specifically for the Sport Events. 3.7. Only Sport Events recognised and accredited by SportMalta may be eligible for this scheme.

04. Application Stage
4.1. Support under this scheme is subject to a first come first served basis and is awarded at the sole discretion of the Malta Tourism Authority. 4.2. Applicants are to register their interest on bit.ly/sportsscheme.
05. Intermediary Stage for Sport Events Organisers (only) 5.1. Once the initiative is approved, a Letter of Approval / Agreement shall be issued detailing the conditions of support and other specifications. 5.2. The organiser must give access to the registration platform back end to the Authority to monitor registration status. 5.3. The organiser will be required to give access to the Malta Tourism Authority’s representatives to the accreditation hub of the Event to ensure transparency. 5.4. The applicant will be required to provide an Event programme which must showcase the destination in the best possible manner. Quality of service and product must always be ensured by implementing a marketing plan showcasing Malta in a positive manner and/or creating a programme for attendees to suggest highlights around the Maltese Islands.

06. Claim Submission
6.1. The applicant shall claim the eligible support as approved by the Malta Tourism Authority. 6.2. Supporting Documents required for claim include: - Copy of the full program. - Proof of number of foreign participants including country of origin - Proof of participants stay in the Maltese Islands for a minimum of 3 nights - Copy of flight booking of participant. - Other requirements listed in the letter of confirmation 6.3. Only claims which are complete and that include all relevant supporting documents will be evaluated by the Malta Tourism Authority. 6.4. Funding will be provided on a post event basis after the Malta Tourism Authority is satisfied with the claim and supporting documents presented. 6.5. The above schemes are independent from any other support being provided by the Malta Tourism Authority throughout 2021 & 2022.
