Fresh veggies, hand-picked raspberries, local honey, stunning flowers. All favorites from the garden, but so much sweeter when they grow in the mountains! When the growing season is a mere 90 days, traditional gardening gets tricky. At McCall’s elevation, we see the last frost somewhere in midJune and the first hard freeze in late September. That doesn’t leave a lot of room for growth…or error.

High mountain gardening is a honed skill. Trial and error mixed with secrets of the trade passed along by friends and neighbors—and an early start. Winter is the time most gardens here take shape. Planning, organizing, and starting seeds to nurture along indoors until the ground thaws and we can dig in.
