The Harrogate area of North Yorkshire has a proud history of hosting medical events, ever since the British Medical Association chose to come to Harrogate in 1884. With a rich spa heritage, a culture of innovation and invention, and with one third of medicines on the market today developed by a world-leading contract research organisation based in the area, this is an ideal place to host a medical event, conference or exhibition.

FOOD & AGRICULTURE

North Yorkshire is home to food and drink offerings that are hand-crafted and have a strong Yorkshire identity. Wensleydale Cheese, Yorkshire Tea (Bettys & Taylors), Heck Sausages and Harrogate Spring Water are all based in the area. Hold a food or drink focused event here and you will be within easy reach of Malton, Yorkshire’s Food Capital as well as the University of York which offers several institutions focused on agri-tech research and York Biotech Campus, providing space for the Food Innovation Network, and government agencies like the Animal and Plant Health Agency and DEFRA.

TECHNOLOGY, DATA AND CREATIVE INDUSTRIES

Several key financial technology and e-commerce firms, including lending and payment specialists Trustpayments, Welcom Digital and Nostrum have a base in York and North Yorkshire. The area also has a rapidly expanding cybersecurity industry with a GCHQ outstation based in Scarborough. The creative industries are making significant impacts with Skipton-based AI technology firm Peel Interactive working to improve visitor experiences through 3D modelling, interactive learning and virtual reality.

MARITIME HERITAGE AND INNOVATION

North Yorkshire is blessed with close to 100 miles of beautiful coastline which is home to not only a rich maritime heritage but organisations that are making waves in future innovation. McCains, Anglo American, Alexander Dennis, offshore wind, and the fishing industry all call the Yorkshire Coast home. Our coast is also at the forefront of enhancing marine biodiversity, with organisations such as the Whitby Lobster Hatchery and SeaGrown specialising in this field including the creation of the first of its kind offshore seaweed farm.

SUSTAINABLE ENERGY AND THE BIOECONOMY

Many large solar farms are in North Yorkshire including the first in the UK to deploy an innovative form of sun-tracking technology in Easingwold. With on-going partnerships between local universities to boost bioeconomy across the area and Selby-based The Drax Group set to invest in hydrogen and sustainable biomass power production to become carbon-neutral by 2030, North Yorkshire is the perfect place to host a green conference or event.
