Welcome Letter We’re delighted you’re considering Oklahoma City for your next convention or event. And we’re sure you’ll be delighted once you come here, because there’s never been a better time to be in Oklahoma City. Our city’s amazing renaissance continues, with more than $5 billion of public and private investment in quality of life Michael Carrier, President Oklahoma City Convention improvements being made over the past two decades. & Visitors Bureau The list of projects just completed or in the works is almost as long as the list of recent accolades for our fine city. While we love to tell the story of recent progress, we know the best is yet to come. A new 175,000-square-foot downtown convention center coming in 2019, a new 70-acre downtown park south of the Myriad Botanical Gardens coming in 2017, a new 279,000-square-foot flat-floor public event building coming to State Fair Park in 2016 and a new whitewater rafting facility set to open in the Boathouse District in 2016 are just a few of the reasons for our optimism. Please use this guide to learn more about what our city has to offer, and please don’t hesitate to contact the Oklahoma City Convention and Visitors Bureau. We’re here to make you look like a superstar for picking such a wonderful, economical, centrally-located destination. We look forward to working with you.

Downtown Oklahoma City is delightfully walkable. With our convention center just steps away from a number of hotels, major attractions and the many restaurants and entertainment options in the Bricktown Entertainment District, everything you need for a successful meeting is in one convenient location; no buses necessary.
Our central location means we’re easy to get to no matter where your attendees are coming from. Our airport is large enough to have the direct flights and easy connections you want, but small enough to easily navigate. With 22 nonstop flights to 19 destinations in the U.S., including west and east coast cities, getting to Oklahoma City is a breeze, with the Will Rogers World Airport conveniently located less than 15 minutes from downtown.

Reasons to Meet in OkC
3
New
OKC is a town of friendly folk. With a metro population of 1.3 million, we’re large enough to enjoy the culture, cuisine, attractions and amenities you’d expect in a modern metropolis. We just never lost our Oklahoma charm. We’re all of the hustle without all of the hassle. And as a Certified Tourism Ambassador city, our friendliness is certified.
5
Since 1993, Oklahoma City has seen more than $5 billion of public and private investment in quality-of-life projects and improvements throughout the city. That urban renaissance has created a city buzzing with activity. There’s an energy here, and the renaissance continues. Be sure to check out what’s “Coming Soon” on pg. 6.

The Boathouse District along the Oklahoma River is a U.S. Olympic and Paralympic training site and home to USA Canoe/Kayak. It’s also home to some wonderfully unique meeting space at the Chesapeake Boathouse, Devon Boathouse and Chesapeake Finish Line Tower, with gorgeous views of the Oklahoma River and Downtown. Didn’t expect that in OKC? We hear it all the time. This is just one of the ways in which Oklahoma City consistently surprises, delights and exceeds expectations. 5
Coming In December 2009, MAPS 3 (Metropolitan Area Projects) – a comprehensive city improvement package funded by a one-cent sales tax – was approved by Oklahoma City voters. Following in the footsteps of two highly successful MAPS programs, MAPS 3 will provide funding for some key projects that will help Oklahoma City remain a hub for sports, recreation, cultural and convention facilities. And because the funding for each project is guaranteed and collected before construction begins, each project will be completed as promised.
New Convention Center
The proposed center – with a $252 million budget – will feature nearly 200,000 square feet of exhibit space, a 35,000-square-foot ballroom and 50,000 square feet of additional meeting space. With a prime location near the Myriad Botanical Gardens & Tropical Conservatory, Chesapeake Energy Arena and new downtown park, the yetto-be-named convention center is projected to open in 2019.
New State Fair Park MAPS 3 Facility Another project included in Oklahoma City’s third installment of MAPS, Oklahoma State Fair Park will have a new 279,000-square-foot expo building. Projected to be completed in 2016, the new building will replace the old Travel & Transportation Building on the east side of State Fair Park and include a 201,000 square feet of expo space, 11,100-square-foot kitchen to support catering and a 30- by 40-foot hangar door for large equipment access. 6
Soon Oklahoma River Improvements Already designated as an official Olympic and Paralympic training site, Oklahoma City is creating the finest rowing racecourse in the world. We’re also investing $25 million in a public whitewater kayaking facility that will accommodate all skill levels and provide a myriad of recreation possibilities for families, recreational enthusiasts, Olympic-caliber athletes and everyone in between.
70-acre Downtown Park This park will provide citizens and visitors with a variety of recreation activities, including concerts, walking/biking/running trails, picnic sites, youth sports fields, play areas, public art, interactive water features, and outdoor education opportunities, in addition to promoting a more healthy lifestyle. The park will connect downtown Oklahoma City to the shores of the Oklahoma River and is scheduled to be completed in 2021.
Modern Downtown Streetcar System Approximately five to six miles of downtown streetcar tracks will link major attractions in the downtown area. It will be the most extensive of its type in the United States, and the system will help to connect workers to their jobs, residents to events and visitors to our attractions. 7

CHESAPEAKE ENERGY ARENA 100 W. Reno Ave. | (405) 602-8700 | www.chesapeakearena.com Whether it’s the action of an NBA game, or the excitement of a live concert or world-class event, more than one million guests create memories each year at Chesapeake Energy Arena, which is home to the Oklahoma City Thunder. While it is managed by SMG, Chesapeake Energy Arena is owned by the City of Oklahoma City and was the premier project of its visionary one-cent sales tax capital Photo by Angela Rowe improvement program, Metropolitan Area Projects (MAPS). On March 4, 2008, Oklahoma City voters overwhelmingly approved an additional temporary one-cent sales tax to fund several major improvements, including audio upgrades, video boards and security features. The projects also included new terrace suites and lounges, bunker suites, new and renovated locker rooms, as well as a new grand entrance, multistory atrium, new restaurants, clubs, concession areas, team offices and a family fun zone, which were completed in 2012.

This former warehouse district is home to dozens of restaurants and nightlife options. Visitors can also enjoy a stroll along the mile-long Bricktown Canal, take a cruise on a Bricktown Water Taxi, catch a ballgame at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, or listen to some tunes at various music venues. And with its own hotels and a number of meeting venue options, this local hot spot can play host to your meeting as well. Travel just a few blocks north to Deep Deuce where you can find great restaurants, bars and more.

Western Avenue and Classen Curve combine for the perfect blend of old and new in Oklahoma City. Western Avenue’s charming neighborhoods and quaint ambiance go back to the days of historic Route 66. Classen Curve is the new kid on the block, with a sleek, modern design recently built from the ground up. Both provide the perfect place for perusing an eclectic mix of local restaurants and bars, retail shops and boutiques, antique and home décor stores and fine art galleries.
Paseo Arts District
Developed in 1929 as the first shopping district north of downtown, the Paseo is now home to 17 galleries and more than 60 artists. The curved, two-block street is filled with Spanish revival architecture, a host of great restaurants, a coffee house, boutiques, gift shops, a yoga studio and more.
Stockyards City
Experience Oklahoma City’s authentic western heritage at the historic Stockyards City, located just minutes west of downtown. You can shop Oklahoma’s most complete variety of authentic Western stores, eat a great steak and see real cowboys at work at the world’s largest live cattle auction.
Asian District
With many Vietnamese moving here in the 1970s, a strong and eclectic Chinatown-like area made its home on the northwest edge of downtown OKC. Located in the area surrounding the intersection of Northwest 23rd and Classen Boulevard, the Asian District is where you’ll find some of the absolute best Asian restaurants in OKC, not to mention authentic Asian supermarkets. 65

extra time in okc Whether your meeting attendees find themselves with a few free hours on their hands or plan to make a trip of it with a few additional days, Oklahoma City has plenty of attractions and activities to keep them busy. Here are just a few suggested itineraries.
Downtown Walking Tour
Perfect for downtown meeting attendees that want to see the sights, here’s a suggested itinerary for a day of hoofing-it downtown.
Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum – 620 N. Harvey Ave. Start inside with the Memorial Museum, and then head outside to the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial to reflect on the powerful experience of the museum’s exhibits and artifacts.
67
Oklahoma City Museum of Art – 415 Couch Dr. Travel one block west to Hudson Avenue. Turn left. Travel 2.5 blocks south. Oklahoma City Museum of Art will be on your right (west side of Hudson Avenue). You’ll know you’re in the right place when you see the 55-foottall Chihuly glass tower in the atrium at the front of the museum. Grab lunch at their gourmet café and swing by the gift shop for some fun and funky souvenirs. And if you happen to be in town on a Thursday night, be sure to check out “Cocktails on the Skyline,” where you can grab a cocktail on the museum rooftop from 5 to 10 p.m.
Myriad Botanical Gardens & Tropical Conservatory – 301 W. Reno Ave. Travel three blocks south on Hudson Avenue to the southeast corner of Hudson Avenue & Sheridan Avenue. This 17-acre living plant museum makes your senses come alive with bright blooms, bubbling fountains and lush foliage. Start inside the conservatory, but be sure to leave plenty of time to walk the entire grounds. American Banjo Museum and Bricktown Entertainment District Exit the gardens from the northeast corner located at Sheridan Avenue & Robinson Avenue. Travel 2.5 blocks east on Sheridan Avenue. Even if pickin’ and grinnin’ isn’t your thing, seeing the beauty of these instruments and learning their unique American history is 68
definitely worth the stop. After the American Banjo Museum, it’s time to paint the town (brick) red in the Bricktown Entertainment District. Grab dinner at one of the numerous restaurants and then take a water taxi ride along the mile-long Bricktown Canal.
Oklahoma City’s Adventure District Located just a short drive from downtown or practically any hotel in Oklahoma City, the Adventure District is packed full of just that – adventure. This two-mile area includes three incredible museums, the state’s premier horse racing facility, a nationally-renowned zoo and popular restaurants. It’s a particularly good option for those attendees traveling with their families.
Oklahoma City Zoo: Home to more than 2,000 animals, including Malee, OKC’s newest elephant, whom you’ll find hanging out with her family in our state-of-the-art elephant habitat. Science Museum Oklahoma: Just a walk across the parking lot from the Zoo, it’s science like you’ve never experienced with hands-on exhibits, a planetarium, the world’s second tallest spiral slide (adults can slide too!) and so much more. National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum: OKC’s heritage comes alive as you explore the more than 28,000 Western and American Indian art works and artifacts. Visit the jawdropping museum gift shop and take a step back in time at Prosperity Junction – a lifesized replica of a turn-of-the-century cattle town featuring a railroad depot, blacksmith shop, school, church and more.
National Softball Hall of Fame and Museum: As the ultimate goal for any player, coach, umpire or administrator in the sport, the museum pays tribute to the sport’s greatest athletes and their accomplishments, including the 371 inductees to the National Softball Hall of Fame. The ASA Hall of Fame Stadium complex is the nation’s No. 1 softball venue and hosts worldclass competitions, including the NCAA Women’s College World Series. Remington Park Racing Casino: Remington Park Racing Casino features live horse racing during two seasons each year – the American Quarter Horse season (March-May) and the Thoroughbred season (Aug.-Dec.) – and year-round gaming at Oklahoma City’s only casino. Grab a bite to eat at Bricktown Brewery at Remington Park, Henry Hudson’s Pub or the Wild Rush Bar after placing your bets on your favorite equine athlete. 69
shop okc
No trip is complete without a few souvenirs and gifts, right? Head on over to these areas of town for great buys that are sure to please.
Western Avenue: Home to shops and boutiques, antique and home dÊcor stores, and fine art galleries, Western Avenue is a great place to find something local. Most shops and restaurants along Western Avenue are locally owned and operated, so take a piece of Oklahoma City home with you. The Outlet Shoppes at Oklahoma City: The Outlet Shoppes at Oklahoma City is one of the newest additions to the OKC shopping scene, with more than 90 stores including Michael Kors, Nike, Coach and Disney. Stockyards City: Home to numerous businesses and restaurants specializing in all things western, you can outfit an entire ranch or just pick up a new pair of boots. You’re choice, cowboy. 70
