WEEKEND

Itinerary

A Day Trip or a Long Weekend Itinerary

Day 1

Day 2

Day 3

Day 4

Canoed down the St. Croix, stopped for a picnic on sandbar. Came back tired – found burgers, great fries and craft beer.at PYs. Got to see the beautiful Falls lit up at night. Franconia tomorrow?? Guys went to WI Interstate Park – awesome views of the gorge. Girls went shopping - lots of cute stores. Pedi’s at Studio A. Met later and headed out to Chateau Winery and then over to Dragonfly Winery to sip and watch the sun go down. Headed to Trollhaugen to Adventure Park. Phew- that was exhilarating! Back to town, hiked Falls Bluff Loop - got splashed under the falls. Spectacular views of the valley. We ended up at the Watershed Café deck for early dinner and drinks. YUM! Tasty lunch at Tippy Canoe’s and stopped at Fish Hatchery on our way up to Fawn Doe Rosa. Take out from Cascade Grill— then Osceola Landing to watch the sunset. We headed home feeling refreshed and renewed.

Osceola was a cool little town to visit for a slower pace and without all the crowds- we’ll be back again.

PRESERVING OUR HERITAGE

Osceola’s Mainstreet buildings date from the 1880’s when steamboats lined the river and fur traders, lumberjacks and early settlers built the core of downtown shopping, taverns and eateries. Seventeen original buildings can be found on the Historic Village Walk. See if you can spot the oldest building in the district (1874).

R

QUIET SPACES PLENTIFUL FOR PICNICS

10

Are you looking to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy a lunch surrounded by nature? Osceola has so many amazing picnic spots to choose from...on the river, on the bluffs overlooking the valley or by a quiet stream just steps from downtown.

ROCK THE RIVERWAY

W W W. V I S I T O S C E O L AW I . C O M

The St. Croix National Scenic Riverway includes 252 miles of protected river and adjacent lands. The stretch through Osceola has tall limestone bluffs overlooking the river and wild forest embankments below. The views are equally stunning from a boat, canoe, or plane on the cool, clean water enclosed by cliffs and towering trees.

S

T

SWIMMING

Thanks to ancient glaciers, Osceola has several of nature’s swimming pools located along the beach at the Osceola Landing on the St. Croix River and the beach at WI Interstate Park. Or, try one of six nearby lakes, including Dwight Lake or Sand Lake. For a more controlled water experience, the Osceola High School Aquatic Center or the pool at River Valley Inn offer open swimming for a reasonable fee.

U

U-PICK STRAWBERRIES

TREASURE TROVE OF TRAILS

V W

At Demulling Farm, playing in the dirt is encouraged! When you pick your own strawberries, you not only create lasting family memories, but you get more bang for your buck—U-pick strawberries are typically much cheaper than supermarket prices and are, oh, so tasty!

The St. Croix Valley is a mecca for mountain bikers with its diverse terrain and scenic beauty along groomed and natural bike trails. Bird lovers love our birding trails, too.

Local farmers come to the Farmers Market at Mill Pond Park every Friday afternoon in season to share their fresh-from-the field produce.

WALK TO THE LIBRARY

This brand new library, in the Discovery Center is not a shush-y place. You still can find rows of books and some really cool reading spaces. It has evolved into a multimedia resource center, a vibrant and dynamic community gathering space.

hroughout t BIRDING the four SEASONS Spring:

The most spectacular birding is during ice breakup when bald eagles and waterfowl are migrating.

Summer

: One-hundred and sixty species are known to nest the riverway area and early morning paddles are filled with the sounds of birds.

Fall:

Watch for kettles (flocks of circling, often rising birds) of migrating hawks and eagles along the bluffs of the St. Croix River. Trumpeter swans flock together in fields and rivers.

Winter:

Trumpeter swans and bald eagles are present near open water. The leaf-less riverine habitats are great places to see resident woodpeckers and songbirds.

Migratory river highway makes an attractive destination for birding! 17

Shop and Stroll

Charming and independent shops, lots of local handcrafted items, cozy restaurants, outdoor patios, plenty of free parking are all within walking distance. Osceola is a quaint, small town surrounded with waterfalls, bluffs, a creek and walking trails that are all accessible right from historic downtown. Because the people who own and work in our downtown are every bit as unique and interesting as what they sell, you’ll discover a small town adventure all of its own. In fact, many Osceola merchants and artisans personally create or source the handcrafted items and often have an interesting story to share or a tale to tell about the history of our town. From musical instruments to home décor’ , clothing, cigars, local art and gifts, take home something to remember your trip by from downtown and beyond.

Join us for a scenic and memorable trip through the St. Croix Valley. Come for the romance of the 1920’s-1950’s passenger rail experience and the inspiring scenery and fall colors in the St. Croix River Valley. Due to the pandemic, we plan to operate an abbreviated season but still an amazing experience. Procedures for keeping everyone healthy will be in place. Individual, family and group tickets are available. All trains board at the historic Soo Line Depot in Osceola, WI and travel to Marine on St. Croix, MN or Dresser, WI. For a current schedule and to make reservations, check our website at www.trainride.org. When in the Saint Paul, be sure to visit the Minnesota Transportation Museum on Wednesday’s and Saturday’s. Explore the history of railroading, climb inside historic rail equipment, simulate being a railroad engineer, and join us for Tots for Trains on Wednesday’s or caboose rides on Saturdays.
