WELCOME TO PENTICTON Penticton isn’t just a destination. It’s an experience. It’s uncovering something new around every corner. It’s unwittingly walking into one of 70 plus award-winning wineries, then another, then maybe another. It’s stunning lakes, world-class trails, and living the foodie life, farm-totable. It’s beautiful bike rides, alluring beaches, and a rich, charming culture. It’s skiing – both behind a boat and down a slope. It’s some of the best winter activities this Province has to offer. It’s doing it all or doing nothing. It’s something for everyone, it’s here, and it’s waiting to be discovered.

Make the Penticton & Wine Country Visitor Centre your first stop when you arrive. Here you will find an abundance of “insider information” and ideas to make your visit a memorable one. Free Wi-Fi, maps, brochures and a friendly smile to make you feel at home are just a few of the things waiting for you. The Visitor Centre is the hub for tips on hiking/cycling, winery maps as well as suggestions on where to eat – or dine – or that perfect activity for the family. Watch out for our Pop Up Info Booth around town – bringing information to you. Welcome to Penticton – a place you will want to stay a while – or perhaps a place to stay forever.

FAMILY FUN

PENTICTON IS ONE OF JUST TWO CITIES IN THE WORLD THAT SITS BETWEEN TWO LAKES. Beaches and water fun are part of the summer culture here – dive in like a local and get wet! • The inflatable water park is perfect for the younger set. Parents can relax in a beach chair and watch the wet fun as the kids climb, bounce and jump into the water. • Grab a cold treat at the fruit shaped concession stand on the beach. • Take part in the Sandcastle competition during Peach Fest.

HAVE SOME FAMILY FUN AT THE SPLASH PARK AND INTERACTIVE PLAYGROUND LOCATED WITHIN THE GREEN SPACE AT SKAHA LAKE. Photos by: Melissa Barnes (above & bottom left), Moments Under Frame Studios (bottom right)

• Try SUP – stand up paddle boarding. There are rental locations at both Okanagan and Skaha Lake as well as in Naramata. • Book a night-time SUP – the boards have lights that make the water glow, attracting fish – truly magical. • Float the river channel that connects Okanagan Lake to Skaha Lake. • Rent a boat – toodle around the lakes, take a picnic with you and have a swim. Be water-smart – no glasses of wine out here. • Kayak – so peaceful and great exercise. Rentals are readily available or you can book a guided tour. VISITPENTICTON.COM | 6

VINEYARDS

While spending time at the tasting bar, you will hear all kinds of “wine speak” being thrown around, here are a few of the terms translated. Aroma: What you smell in the glass. Always give the wine a nice swirl in the glass, this allows the wine to interact with the air and makes it easy to sniff out the notes on the tasting sheet. Bouquet: No, they are not offering you flowers – this term refers to the scent of the wine, which is often more than just a singular thing. Buttery: A term generally used when describing Chardonnay that has a buttery mouthfeel, or buttered popcorn character. Tannin: Tannins which are extracted from the grape skins and stems – this is what makes you pucker up sometimes. Terroir: This essentially means where the grape was grown. Veraison: Term for when the grapes change color from green to deep purple for red wines or golden and pink for white grapes. Wine peeps get quite excited about this as it means that harvest and crush are approaching.
