Welcome I am delighted to once again be celebrating Plymouth Armed Forces Day, on Plymouth Hoe, it’s going to be spectacular, with so much for all the family to enjoy.
The Royal Navy and Royal Marines are proud to support Plymouth’s Armed Forces week once more, alongside the Army, Royal Air Force and all our veterans and cadet organisations.
We are very fortunate to be able to watch the Rehabilitation Triathlon, hosted by the Royal Marines, on the Thursday 23 June. I wish all of these incredible athletes the very best of luck.
The Services have a long and successful relationship with the City of Plymouth and the surrounding communities where we live, and always welcome occasions for us to come together to demonstrate our shared commitment.
During this year’s Armed Forces Day, I am particularly looking forward to watching the Veterans from the Falklands campaign, as they mark the 40th anniversary with a dedicated parade, celebrating their Freedom of the City of Plymouth. Armed Forces Day is a celebration and a great opportunity to say thank you to our Military, serving to reservists, veterans, cadets and their families for the great work they do. We are very proud of our military history and our Armed Forces based in the city. It is always great to see the Plymouth community showing their support during Armed Forces Week.
Armed Forces Week is the perfect opportunity to celebrate that relationship and all that we achieve together, whether in Defence of the United Kingdom, providing stability around the world or supporting our wonderful city and its people. Events this week will showcase our relationship with the City, from the Armed Forces Week flag raising at the Guildhall on Monday, the Rehabilitation Triathlon, hosted by the Royal Marines on Thursday through to the RAF & Allied Air Forces Memorial Service, Falkland’s Veterans parade and the Armed Forces Day celebration on Plymouth Hoe on Saturday.
I wish you all a very enjoyable time and thank you for your continued support.
I hope you all enjoy Armed Forces Week and thank you for your continued and valued support.
Councillor Sue Dann Lord Mayor of Plymouth
Commodore Peter Coulson ADC Naval Base Commander Devonport
