Country Pride Dance Club

Country Pride Dance Club “Performance Team” was created to perform demonstrations at special events, and functions in Central Alberta. This demonstration team is unique, and is the only one of it's kind in Western Canada. While demonstrating Country Western culture they also show what a fun activity dancing is and also feature some of the hot new dances such as swing. They can entertain and involve the entire family. Routines consist of a combination partner dances such as Country 2-step, Waltz, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Cha-Cha, line dances and more. Looking for something different for your next event? TOP 5 walking/biking trails 1. Bower Ponds: The Bower Ponds area just off the Red Deer River boasts an expansive and mature park setting with ample wildlife. It features a series of interconnecting ponds with gushing fountains and is bordered by nearly 2 km of paved trails. You will also find a fishing dock, playground, pollinator park, patio, outdoor washrooms, and a natural amphitheatre with a covered stage, all adjacent to Red Deer’s historic Cronquist House. 2. Heritage Ranch: offers a mix of paved and gravel trails that weave throughout the 217 acres of wild parkland. It is great for various modes of travel from walking, biking, skateboarding and even horseback riding, just make sure you watch out for fellow trail users and their animal friends. 3. Gaetz Lakes Sanctuary is a federal migratory bird sanctuary that is perfect for walking and hiking. Here you will find 5 km of hiking trails with viewing platforms, a bird blind, gardens, information signage, sightseeing benches and lookout points. 4. McKenzie Trails Recreation Area is a natural oasis within the city, leading you along paved paths next to ponds, through the forest and to a boat launch for access to the Red Deer River. These trails are wheelchair accessible and offer many lovely spots to stop for a picnic. 5. Three Mile Bend Recreation Area is a 55-hectare natural area, located next to the Red Deer River near 76th Street and Riverside Drive. This is also an off-leash dog area with a mix of open areas and tree-lined paths allowing both people and pets to stretch their legs freely in nature.

WINTER

Embrace the season and enjoy the Alberta winter experience! Grab your warm clothes and a toque and try some of these exciting winter adventures. From downhill skiing, snow tubing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, fat tire biking, skating and ice fishing. There is truly something for everyone this winter season!

Skating

Red Deer has 77 outdoor skating rinks for public use including 3 ponds, and a speed skating oval. Bower Ponds has long been one of the most popular and scenic skating locations in the area and they also have skate rentals.

Ice Fishing

Get out and ice fish on some of our frozen lakes. You can find three great fishing holes right here in central Alberta. From Sylvan Lake, Gull Lake to Buffalo Lake, you’ll have plenty of fishing tales to share, don’t forget you can also get guided ice-fishing tours from our members.

Downhill Skiing & Snowboarding

You can experience skiing and snowboarding here in central Alberta, Canyon Ski Resort is just 10 minutes east of the city and it is the largest non-mountain downhill ski resort in Alberta. The ski area has 20 runs, six lifts, lights for night skiing, a ski lodge, a large ski school, equipment rentals and a cafeteria. Canyon Ski Resort has a 164-metre vertical drop, there is terrain for advanced, intermediate and novice skiers.

Snowshoeing

Heritage Ranch, Great Chief Park, Kiwanis, and Barrett Park have beautiful trails for your snowshoeing pleasure. For those wanting to snowshoeing for the first time, try out Gaetz Lakes Sanctuary, 122 hectares of protected land; a refuge for native plants and animals. Snowshoe rentals can be found at the Kerry Wood Nature Centre and the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame.

Cross Country Skiing

Here in Red Deer, we are fortunate to have several spacious areas perfect for your skiing experience. River Bend Golf and Recreation Area offers 19 km of groomed cross-country ski trails surrounded by the beautiful Red Deer River Valley with 4 km of lighted trails for evening runs. If you need to rent cross country skis, they are available at the River Bend Golf Clubhouse.

Snowtubing & Tobogganing

Experience the thrill of tobogganing down a snowy hill. Bower Ponds is a wonderful place to toboggan, then after warm up in the pavilion with hot chocolate. If snow tubing is more your speed, check out their new Edgar Highspeed Tube Park at Canyon Ski Hill with 6 Lanes and they even have fun glow lights for night tubing.

Fat Tire Biking

Enjoy the trails like never before, and travel Red Deer’s winter trail system on a bike, a “Fat Tire Bike”. Don’t own one, no problem, the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame rents them out for you to experience winter the way it was meant to.
