Ribble Valley

History runs through the cobbled streets of the compact city of Lancaster. From the hilltop castle overlooking the glorious Morecambe Bay to the Lancaster Canal winding its way through the city’s industrious past and out into the surrounding countryside, Lancaster is a vibrant city with a big story to tell.

One of England’s historic cities where culture and heritage captivate and inspire, the castle and museums hold the secrets of the city’s ancient stories. As you stroll the meandering towpaths of the canal or along St George’s Quay, marvel at the Georgian architecture which lines the city’s streets and the banks of the River Lune. Venture up to Williamson Park to explore its secret paths and discover its hidden follies and stunning Edwardian-designed butterfly house. Immerse yourself in Lancaster’s culture – take in a play, come along to a festival, or experience an upbeat gig in an old-world pub. Enjoy the vibe in one of the city’s welcoming coffee houses, browse quirky independent shops, or visit the vibrant street market.
