SIOUX FALLS, S.D. SELECTED TO HOST 2017 US YOUTH SOCCER REGION II CHAMPIONSHIPS WEST ALLIS, Wis. (Nov. 11, 2014) - US Youth Soccer Region II is proud to announce that Sioux Falls, S.D. and South Dakota State Soccer Association will host the 2017 US Youth Soccer Region II (Midwest) Championships as part of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series, the country’s most prestigious national youth soccer tournament. The event will take place June 23-28 at Yankton Trails Park. The US Youth Soccer Region II Championships consist of US Youth Soccer State Champions from 14 State Associations, including host South Dakota State Soccer Association, US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional League Premier Division champions, as well as drawn wildcard entries. Following individual State Cup tournaments, the US Youth Soccer Regional Championships are the second leg of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series. "We are pleased to return to South Dakota for the 2017 US Youth Soccer Region II Championships,” said Bob Hart, Region II (Midwest) Championships Director. “We are certain the Sioux Falls park facilities and community support will combine to present a memorable event in the prestigious US Youth Soccer National Championship Series.” The tournament will attract more than 200 Boys and Girls teams, in the Under-13 through Under-19 age divisions, from the 14 Midwest US Youth Soccer State Associations that make up US Youth Soccer Region II (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio South, Ohio North, South Dakota and Wisconsin). Regional winners of the Under-13 through Under-19 brackets will earn a berth to the 2017 US Youth Soccer National Championships. Sioux Falls, South Dakota’s largest city, is in the “Heart of America,” conveniently located at the junction of interstates 90 and 29 on the banks of the Big Sioux River. Teams can visit Falls Park, located a few blocks from the downtown district, which features a triple waterfall, visitor center and viewing tower, café, and historic ruins visited by people from around the world.

The yearlong competition begins with over 185,000 players in the US Youth Soccer State Championships. These champions and selected wildcard teams, through US Youth Soccer Regional Leagues, advance to compete in one of four US Youth Soccer Regional Championships. Champions (U-13 through U-19) from each regional event advance to the US Youth Soccer National Championships. The Under-14 through Under-18 Boys and Girls age groups have four teams representing the US Youth Soccer National League, in which the top two teams in each gender age group division earn a direct path to the National Championships. Overall, the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series provides the nation's top collegiate coaches with the premier stage to identify and scout the most coveted players in the country.
