BOSJÖKLOSTER - CASTLE AND GARDENS Today the castle is the private residence of the Bonde af Björnö family. Bosjökloster is situated in the heart of Skåne on a peninsula in lake Ringsjön. It was founded as a Benedictine convent for nuns in the 11th century. The medieval vaults housing the old Refectory, the ruins of the Penetentiary chapel and the gravestones by the church still survive today. Since the Reformation in the 15th Century, Bosjökloster has seen several colourful owners, among them the infamous Corfitz Ulfeldt who was convicted for high treason in both Sweden and Denmark. The beautiful castle with its courtyard, rose garden, flower gardens and park – with animal enclosures and a thousand-year-old oak tree – is a favourite destination for both individual visitors and tour groups. Breakfast is served in Kungsgården this morning – after a day of cycling on Ven it can be nice not to have to prepare your own breakfast. Borstahusen has a richly diverse environment. Allow us to show you this with a digital treasure hunt along the coastal trail with the aid of a GPS. With a little bit of luck, we hope you’ll come across the Citadell castle. This fort, which was built in 1540-1559, is incredibly beautiful, just like its natural surroundings. If you like, you can also go fishing in the moat, which is well-

Sofiero Palace & Gardens
SOFIERO PALACE AND GARDENS, HELSINGBORG Sofiero Palace was, until the 1970´, A SUMMER RESIDENCE FOR SWEDISH ROYALTY SITUATED IN THE NORTH OF THE TOWN HELSINGBORG. THE MAGNIFICENT HERITAGE OF THOUSANDS OF RHODODENDRONS, BEDS, BORDERS AND KITCHEN GARDENS IS CAREFULLY TENDED BY A TEAM OF DEDICATED EXPERTS. IN 2010, SOFIERO WAS VOTED EUROPE’S BEST PARK. EXHIBITIONS IN THE PALACE AND A VARIETY OF EXCITING ACTIVITIES IN THE BEAUTIFUL PARK AND GARDENS ARE SOME OF THE THINGS YOU CAN LOOK FORWARD TO WHEN PLANNING YOUR VISIT.
SOFIERO 150 YEARS Once upon a time there was a prince and a princess ... As many stories begin, the story about Sofiero also begins with a prince and a princess. In 1866, Crown Prince Oscar and his wife Sophia of Nassau finally could spend their first summer at the summer palace of their dreams – overlooking the wooded gorges, the strait and Denmark. This year the story about Sofiero turns 150 years and will be celebrated all through 2016 with a big jubilee! Throughout 2016 there will be celebrations of the 150th jubilee making every event in the palace and park extra special. The Anniversary Exhibition at the palace takes the visitor on a unique journey through several generations of royal artistry in the Bernadotte dynasty - from Danish Queen Margrethe’s textile art to the Swedish Prince Carl-Philip’s industry design.
In the park there will be several surprises – among them the inauguration of our brand new Anniversary Garden. In May and June the rhododendrons bloom and amidst this blossoming beauty the visitors can experience a hiking theatre in the park when the Helsingborg City Theatre, in collaboration with the Summer theater of Krapperup sets up William Shakespeare’s ”As You Like It”, between 12 May to 11 June. A hiking theatre among blossoming rhododendrons with the plot set to 1866 – as made for magic! During the season of 2016 the jubilee will also make all the regular events as the rhododendron season, guided tours and the Children’s Party extra special. The last weekend of August will be extra festive as The Great Garden Party also celebrates 20 years as one of southern Sweden’s most popular garden events!

GUIDED TOURS ANNIVERSARY TOUR For more than a hundred years, kings and queens have left the stress of Stockholm to enjoy peaceful summers at Sofiero. The Anniversary Tour takes you on a historic journey through the gardens and through royal summer life. We adapt the tour according to the season so that you can enjoy the best that Sofiero has to offer. One element that is always included is the fantastic view over the strait of Öresund to Denmark’s Kronborg Castle. Available: All year
SCULPTURE WALK Sofiero is much more than just royalty and gorgeous garden - there are also many sculptures here. Most have been created by internationally acclaimed artists especially for their exact location. A well-informed guide explains about the sculptors, the sculptures, and why they stand where they do. There are works by Carl Milles, Olle Baertling, Jiro Sugawara and Michel Sporgis, to name but a few. The Sculpture Walk passes through the gardens, the gullies and by the palace, as well as other, less-known and less-visited areas of Sofiero that have their own special magic. Available: All year
RHODODENDRON TIME Princess Margareta planted the first rhododendron at Sofiero in 1907 and it’s still here. It, and over ten thousand other rhododendrons, blooms into magnificence in May-June. A spectacle that is unmatched in the whole of northern Europe. The rhododendron tour presents a fascinating, as well as entertaining, piece of history, from the very first rhododendron to Gustav VI Adolf’s considerable interest in botany that originated in the collection of rhododendrons in Sofiero’s borders and gullies. Available: mid-May – mid-June
THE GARDEN FESTIVAL Sofiero’s Garden Festival has been the annual highlight for garden lovers for 20 years. For three days the park brims with ideas and inspiration for inveterate gardening enthusiasts as well as new garden owners. The leading gardening experts are here to share their expertise and a gardening fair tempts you to buy plants, equipment and everything imaginable connected with gardens. The Garden Festival is a hugely popular event and people come from far and wide to enjoy all it has to offer. There are no guided tours during the event; visitors decide themselves exactly what they want to see.
150 YEARS OF BEAUTY–SOFIERO’S GARDEN HISTORY Sofiero is celebrating its150th anniversary in 2016! The history of Sofiero’s gardens is both rich and chequered. The gardens and borders were created mainly by Princess Margareta and Gustav VI Adolf but, as was the case then too, the park has successively altered and developed over the years. The Sofiero gardens are full of interesting secrets, stories and anecdotes, and this walk is along wonderful flower borders, through rhododendron gullies, to exotic trees and pleasure gardens. In 2010 Sofiero was named Europe’s most beautiful park.
Available: 26-28 August
Available: April-Sept
High season: 15 April - 18 Sept 10-18
ROYAL SUMMERS Sofiero was created in 1865 as a royal summer residence. For more than a century, kings, queens, princes and princesses spent their summers here – away from the limelight and free from the demands of public life. The Royal Summers walk describes what life at Sofiero was like when royalty stayed here – what they ate, the games the children played, how an ordinary day was spent. The walk follows the traces that still remain today, and gives a descriptive view of the private life of the royals. There’s a wealth of stories and anecdotes to be told.

IMMERSES YOU IN LOCAL CULTURE FOR THE JOURNEY OF A LIFETIME – Sweden in a nutshell embraces you Prepare for the simple, sweeping vistas ALONG THE SEA, DRAMATIC CLIFFS AND PICTURESQUE VILLAGES. WE RECOMMEND GOING NOW, BEFORE THE GROWING BUZZ ATTRACTS THE CROWDS. TODAY, YOU CAN STILL SPEND AN HOUR OR TWO ON THE TRAIL BETWEEN THE AQUAMARINE SEA AND A PATCHWORK OF TINY FIELDS WITH A SCATTERING OF SHEEP—AND NEVER SEE ANOTHER VISITOR.
ENCOUNTER PEOPLE you’d never meet otherwise… wildflowers you’d never have noticed…chapels whose cool quietness you’d never have entered. Again and again, you’ll find a little fishing harbour and imagine for a moment that you’re in Provence or on the Italian coast. But this is definitely Sweden.
Adventure will find you on leisurely walking tours where the tempo is slower, more peaceful. And you’ll find it incredibly easy to engage with the locals, whether our friends who run a family vineyard or the potter invites us into her workshop. DAY 1. Arrival in Helsingborg. After relaxing with a drink – or maybe afternoon tea – it’s time for an excursion to find out about the history of Helsingborg.
We start with the beautiful Sofiero Palace and park, once the summer residence of the Swedish royal family. Take the bus back to Helsingborg or take a walk! The Kullaleden trail is well signposted from the palace, and it takes about 1.5-2 hours to walk the 6 km through three lush, flourishing city parks. DAY 2. The Kullaleden trail starts from the medieval tower “Kärnan”, the surviving part of Helsingborg Castle, which was built in the 1310s, when Skåne was Danish. The Sound has its narrowest point at Helsingborg, and you’ll enjoy a clear view of the Danish coast as you walk towards Kullaberg. In Domsten you can visit the lovely couple Lennart and Agneta, in their half timbered house. They know a lot about their village and about gardening. Find paved flower beds and lots of cosy 58

DAY 5. Enjoy the morning by the harbour at Mölle. You can also try your hand at kayaking on the sea! Check out at lunchtime, and walk alongside the sea down the mountain towards Ransvik, approx. 20 minutes, where there’s a café serving waffles and simple meals. From there the walk continues up towards the top of the mountain, Kullen Lighthouse. The section from Mölle to Kullen Lighthouse takes approx. 1.5 hours and offers fantastic views, forest and cliffs, beyond the hills, birch and juniper forests.
Jar from Höganäs
seating areas. Plenty of ideas for anyone wanting to renew or change their garden. DAY 3. Höganäs was originally a fishing village around which a mining industry emerged in 1797 to extract coal and clay for the production of fireproof ceramics (Höganäs pottery). The region around Höganäs is also known as “Kullabygden” and is well known for its ceramic tradition. There are more than 40 ceramicists, and you can also visit them in their workshops. Make sure you visit the new market hall, housed in the old kilns where the pottery used to be fired. Höganäs’ salt-glazed vessels are famous all over the world, and in the market hall you can meet one of the potters from the “old days” who’s still making items by hand. DAY 4. Start your walk in the morning heading towards Mölle and Kullaberg. The old windmill stands proudly on the hill just inland. At Krapperup Castle there’s not only a wonderful park – open all year – but also a café offering tasty cakes and light meals. The castle houses an art gallery and a small shop. After about one hour’s walk, you reach the harbour at Mölle. Check into your hotel and enjoy a tasty meal by the harbour. If you’re lucky, you’ll see the mountain glow as the sun sinks into the sea.
DAY 6. After a good night’s sleep up on the mountain, adventure awaits. Kullaberg offers visitors a fantastic natural experience. Indeed, the Guide Michelin has awarded Kullaberg a prestigious three-star rating in its guide to Swedish sights. There are also guided bird and flower walks, or for those who prefer going their own way there are maps and GPS, which can be hired from reception at the Kullaberg visitor centre. DAY 7. Check out and put together a small packed lunch. The trail today takes us to the northern part of Kullaberg, where forest dominates, although here and there the landscape opens up and offers wonderful views over the bay towards the Bjäre Peninsula. The slopes here are also a little longer, albeit not so difficult as to raise the pulse. From here, it’s mostly downhill to Arild. DAY 8. Check out and start the last day of walking between Arild and Utvälinge, a relatively gentle section covering approx. 21 km DAY 9. Direct train from Helsingborg to Copenhagen. Alternative: Before you depart, visit Elsinore and beautiful Hamlet´s Castle, Louisiana or maybe just take a stroll along the cobbled pedestrian streets of Elsinore. DAY 10. Alternative departure day Bookings must be confirmed no later than 8 weeks prior to arrival date.

Boat tour
TOUR AT THE WETLANDS OF KRISTIANSTAD Supreme Ecotourism and rural RECREATION AT BIOSPHERE RESERVE FOR UNESCO NETWORK JOIN US ON A SAFARI INTO ONE OF SWEDEN’S MOST FASCINATING WETLAND ENVIRONMENTS. GEOLOGICAL, BIOLOGICAL AND HUMAN FORCES HAVE CREATED THIS UNIQUE AREA OF NATURAL AND CULTURAL HISTORY THAT SPANS 35 KILOMETRES OF RIVERS AND LAKES – FROM TORSEBRO IN THE NORTH TO YNGSJÖ IN THE SOUTH - AND FORMS PART OF SOUTHERN SWEDEN’S LARGEST CATCHMENT AREA. EXPERIENCE ALL OF THESE INFLUENCES FIRST-HAND ON ONE OF OUR FASCINATING AND INFORMATIVE WETLAND SAFARIS.
DURING OUR JOURNEY ALONG the all-important waterways, old maps help us discover clear traces of the old order of things in this part of the world, evidence of how people used and farmed this area in days gone by and the enormous changes that have taken place here over the centuries. As the past unfolds and the present reveals itself in the form of the rich wetlands of Kristianstad, there is time, too, to reflect on what the future holds for this area of unique natural and cultural significance.
More than 250 species have been observed here, and at least 120 species regularly use the wetlands for nesting. The area is also a resting place for migratory birds, such as the flocks of cranes in spring, and a favourite haunt of the region’s sea eagles in winter. Around 30 of the species in the wetlands are redlisted in Sweden. It’s not just birds that thrive in the northeastern part of Skåne, you can also get a glance at sweetwater otters, wild boars and catfishes.
We move through the water at an unhurried pace, getting close to the wildlife and the area’s many birds.

Meet new people!
Our motto throughout the trip is therefore: Look but don’t disturb! This applies not only to birds, of course, but to all the other animals and insects – and to the local human inhabitants, as well! These people have taken over the result of hard toil by generations of farmers on the margins of the wetlands, and it is thanks to them that we can now enjoy all that this unique environment has to offer. Many areas still remain difficult to get to, and a safari like ours is one of the few ways of penetrating this secret world. During the journey we make a number of landfalls, though where and when depends very much on the forces of nature. We visit villages and the sites of settlements that have disappeared as recently as during the last 200 years, the ruins of castles and fortresses from the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, and much, much more.
