LABOR MARKET/ EMPLOYMENT UPDATE
Therewere 92,775 workers in the Shawnee County labor force as of April 2023. There were 90,106 employed workers, leaving 2,669 workers unemployed. That means 650 more workers were employed in April than a year prior, and nearly 300 more people were employed compared to the month before.
Aside from seeing more employed workers in Shawnee County, the overall size of the local labor force has also increased by more than 1,350 people, compared to the year prior. This means more than 1,350 people joined the total pool of available labor in the county. Meanwhile, the county’s unemployment rate decreased slightly to 2.9% in April, compared to March’s 3.2%.
