STE[+A]M CONFERENCE
EDUCATION, CONFERENCES & EVENTS STE[+a]M Connect is a conference and resource set created to bridge arts, science, education and the community. The tools and events provide a forum for community collaboration and a collection of resources that bring a diverse group of stakeholders (non-profit, education, business, policymakers and community leaders) together to address common goals. Working in partnership with UCSD Extension’s Dr. Ed Abeyta, the head of the university’s K-12 outreach initiative, Visual Asylum created a brand identity for the STEAM program that also encompasses ASCEND Conference materials. Beginning with a unique brand identity, all print and online materials were addressed, including innovative, brochure-like conference badges and an event way finding signage system.

LA JOLLA COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL IDENTITY SYSTEM, PRINT COLL ATERAL, ADVERTISING
La Jolla Country Day School is a premiere private educational institution in San Diego with a rich history spanning more than 80 years. Passionate about providing the best college preparatory education possible for Pre-K through 12th grade, Country Day sought a creative partner that understood their audience and shared similar values. Over a five-year period, Visual Asylum served as LJCD’s primary creative partner. In that capacity we partnered closely with the LJCD Marketing / Communications team to facilitate a re-branding effort. The end result accurately and authentically communicates the brand essence and core values of the school in all marketing and communications efforts. Our strategic marketing and advertising plans were executed in print, online and on-air campaigns, driving application and enrollment numbers to increase year over year.

TWEET STREET
PARK IDENTITY, PUBLIC ART, SIGNAGE & GRAPHICS
Located in the Cortez Hill neighborhood of downtown San Diego, Tweet Street is an outdoor bird park designed to house birds displaced by downtown development. Upscale bird residences were designed under strict guidance by wildlife experts to ensure the health and safety of specific downtown birds. Visual Asylum led this unique urban initiative, which includes 10 uniquely designed and fabricated birdhouses, by local designers, illustrators, and architects. We named this “pocket-park” in downtown San Diego, created a visual identity system along with
conceiving of a plate-making signage system inclusive of the interactive kiosk, which acts as a teaching tools for the community, one tier devoted to the instruction of what types of birds live in the neighborhood (be on the look out for), the second explained the flora/fauna found in the park and why it was chosen, attracting the native birds and final tier teaches all about the design of an appropriate bird house, informing the importance of ventilation, access for cleaning, free of predator perches.

VISUAL ASYLUM STUDIO SPACE PLAN, INTERIOR DESIGN, SIGNAGE
Over the years, our workspace has evolved with our firm, ranging from eclectic Victorians to an open, mod sixties space with many iterations in between. When we made our latest move to an urban loft space in iconic downtown San Diego, we knew this environment had to top all that had come before it. We wasted no time crafting a dynamic space that brings our brand essence to life. The Visual Asylum offices foster innovation on many levels – providing space for inspiration, collaboration and over-the-top creativity. Our open, split level design liberally applies a bold color palette that has become our signature. When you visit you’ll experience the uncommon blend of a polished retail presence and the organic, intimate vibe of an art gallery.

AMERISTAR ST. CHARLES SIGNAGE & GRAPHICS
Located in St. Charles Missouri, the Ameristar Casino Resort Spa is a $265 million luxury hotel poised to become the most popular gaming and entertainment destination in greater St. Louis. A long-standing partner with Ameristar Casinos, Visual Asylum assessed the overall need of the hotel/casino property to determine the scope and need of way finding signage system. The signage system VA developed links a hotel, casino floor, streetscape and two parking garages to a world-class conference center. Our scope of work with the Ameristar St. Charles included the creation of two artful interactive directional kiosks inspired by a unique water feature in the property entrance. These pieces served as the creative anchor for a comprehensive system of identity, directional, and logistical signage that flow throughout the resort.
