EDITOR'S NOTE
There is a thin line between “utopia” and “dystopia.” What can be perceived as utopian to one may be seen as dystopian by others. In Volume 28 Issue 3: UTOPIA / DYSTOPIA, the artist defines their own work as either utopian or dystopian, though we encourage the viewer to interpret each piece on their own. We are always proud to give the artists of SVA the chance to publish their work and amplify their voices. Signing off, VO Team 5

Evening descended purple and quiet me at my desk in the freshman dorm my new roommate at hers, dark-haired, solemn already a familiar image I could tell her—but I can’t, so I scroll down past invites, past graduation photos looking for a face missing from the smiling crowds despite myself and the intervening years He should have been there with us sometimes almost seemed to be gangly limbs and wide smile All elbows, throwing a tasseled cap into the air Five Septembers ago today, I sat beside him at a morning rally in the old auditorium the group of us cheering, rolling our eyes at each other. By evening he was gone, a screech of tires ending in a lasting silence and I never really knew him – never knew him at all
