Why and How to Install Proper Horse Stall Mats In Your Stable Ammonia odors from your horses’ stable are not just a big problem for you. Clean the base surface on which your horse stands for additional layers

Make sure the base is level and add about half a foot of pea gravel

Compact the gravel with a vibrating plane compactor or a roller

Add 1/3rd foot of stone dust and again distribute it evenly with a rake

Wet this layer with water and the let it dry for some time

Making it easier If you want to make your maintenance easier, invest in vibration platform for horses, so some of the above steps can be skipped. For instance, 

A vibrating plane compactor will wet the stone dust by itself

Make sure you have adequate power supply in the tank for periodic compacting
